Glitter and Doom in Phoenix

I'm coming to Phoenix for three nights for the Tom Waits shows next week at the Orpheum Theatre downtown. Staying close to the venue at the Hotel San Carlos, so I'll be on foot (or at least in no condition to drive)... I know other threads have suggestions for downtown PHX, but with the 100+ temps, I'm looking for places as close to these locales as possible or the spots truly worth the cab ride... Open to any cuisine (swordfishtrombones excluded), but hoping to save a little cash due to gas prices... thanks....

Restaurants offering a Passover menu?

Despite my porcine chowname, I need to find a restaurant offering a Passover dinner for Saturday, April 19... Doesn't need to be kosher and offer the whole seder aspect, just some place with a set menu and sadly no bread... Quasi-traditional preferred for the 93-year old grandma... Unfortunately Spago is out of my price range and don't know of any other places offering anything (and don't want to end up at a boring old deli - if they are even open)... Suggestions?

Best Mozzarella Sticks in LA?

Every now and then I get a monster craving for the simple fried cheese heart-attack inducing bar food... Any suggestions for the best sticks around?... The search function didn't give me many options. I don't mind driving once the fried-cheese fit is on me...

Enoteca San Marco - beyond the online menu?

You can get 1/2 price entree coupons (lunch or dinner) for San Marco and B&B for only $2 at the 1/2 Price Ticket Booths around town... I went for lunch last week, and the actual menu looks just like the online menu... They wouldnt let me use the coupon for the Salumi sampler, but the Carbonara was surprisingly great and I have to tout the Salted Carmel gelato - the ice cream form of the butterscotch budino at Mozza in LA...

B&B Ristorante in Vegas - Great deal, great service

In town for the weekend, I was in line for 1/2 price Crazy Girls tickets, where I was shocked to see B&B offering 50% off entree coupons at the Half Price Show Tickets Window at the Fashion Show Mall - For a measly $2!!!.... I was happy to jump at the deal, but then it went bad in a hurry. Knowing I'd want to sample the menu, I asked if I could purchase two entree coupons per person. The ticket place said no problem. I bought the coupons and got to my car - where I noticed it said one entree coupon limit per person. I immediately went back to the Half Price Ticket Window and asked for a refund for the two coupons I couldn't use. They refused. I argued, but figured it wasn't worth the fight for four dollars... When I arrived at B&B, I explained what happened and they were fantastic - they honored all four coupons and my girlfriend and I got to try four amazing pastas at half price... The Homemade Orecchiette with Sweet Sausage and the Garganelli with Funghi Trifolati were truly outstanding... The Beef Cheek Ravioli with Black Truffles and Crushed Duck Liver, along with the Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu were also very good... The $100 check was bumped down to $50. The staff was great dealing so quickly with the whole coupon fiasco and the service was top flight. It was a great meal... So the lesson was learned - B&B serves great food, has a great staff, and the coupons are great despite the hassle... Half Price Tickets has booths at the (1) Fashion Show Mall, (2) next to the Riviera, (3) at the Hawaiian Marketplace and (4) at the Four Queens. You can purchase the $2 coupons without buying showing tickets, which saves a pretty penny. Be warned, it is only one per person, and the ticket agency books the reservations at B&B for you (don't make your own reservations)- must be the same day you purchase the coupons and only at certain times. The coupons also don't include the Tasting Menus, the Rib Eye for two and two other dishes... Batali's other Venetian spot, Enoteca San Marco, also has $2 coupons for 50% entrees available as well....

Spoiled in SGV in LA, any hope in Las Vegas?

Thanks for the reply... We live close to LOS and hit it at least once a week. Amazing stuff... Maybe I'm aiming too high for SGV-style Chinese, but any recs besides Joyful House or Ping Pang Pong would still be appreciated... Again our faves are dumplings and/or a good pork chop fried rice... I simply can't afford the gas to trek out to Din Tai Fung or J&J every other weekend...

Spoiled in SGV in LA, any hope in Las Vegas?

My fridge is still full of goodies from my time in LA last week, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any good xiao long bao or at least tasty Chinese dumplings in Vegas... I've tried some of the spots in "Chinatown" in LV, but have found little success. Ping Pang Pong, Chang's and Joyful House were OK, but looking for other alternatives... Even a rec for a decent basic Pork Chop Fried Rice would be appreciated....

Lunch in Las Vegas

Commander's Palace also gets my vote hands down. But I've also had some real nice lunches at Joe's Stone Crab in Caesar's. They have an $18.80 lunch deal (like CP) that will get you some Medium Stone Crab claws, Hash Browned Potatos and Cole Slaw, and a slice of Key Lime Pie for dessert. Sure it's not as good as the fresh stuff in Miami, but still tasty for a reasonably priced quality lunch.

Butchers or Markets - Prime Steaks in Las Vegas?

I just moved to Vegas from LA and I really miss How's Markets Prime steak specials. There is a Vons or Albertsons on every corner out here, but where can I go to pick up a nice Prime and/or Aged Ribeye in Vegas? I can't afford these $40-a-cut steakhouses much longer, so please help with recs where I can pick up quality chops to cook at home. Thanks!
