Looking for DC hidden gem or 'hole in the wall' for Visiting Guest

Have an old friend coming to DC tomorrow and we're meeting for dinner. His suggestions were for 'something ethnic' or a good 'hole in the wall.' I would prefer to stay west of capital for easier commuting. Prefer more of a local crowd (no tourist trap) , local ownership (no chains), reasonable to moderate pricing (nothing too fancy for these Pacific NW boys), and good atmosphere for conversation and catching up. Appreciate any and all suggestions!

Best (non-chain) Mexican in Center City?

thanks barryg! just spending the upcoming weekend in Philly and staying in CC. Would prefer to dine within CC. Found Lolita on web and thought it looked good. Was also curious about Tequila's, but if you prefer Lolita, I'll put that to the top of my list.

To clarify, I'm not looking for a Philly version of Rosa Mexicana, but I don't mind a more upscale restaurant.

Looking for a [authentic] Mexican restaurant in Center City. Not looking for a chain or the hippest setting, but rather just good ol' Mexican food in a clean place. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
