Cape Cod
I think Mac's Seafood down at the commercial harbor ibn Wellfleet is absolutely great seafood....yeah it's a stand up chaotic experience like most Cape Cod seafood places, but the food is a cut above...seems pricey at first, but hold judgement till your done eating. I love their rare Tuna steak sandwich.
I cast an added vote for Wicked Oyster....
I also like Cooke's in Orleans.....not a universal opinion by any means but I go there many times a year, like Mac's.
Moby Dick's is great, too, but it always seems like such a mobscene that I don;t have the patience....like Arnold's in Eastham. The key is to phone order and doing your waiting at home before you show up....especially true at Arnold's...just add a half hour to any time they tell you when u call. Moby's timing ispretty accurate.
Blue Moon in Dennis is a nice Bistro.
I agree with comments about Finely JP's...a quirkily run restaurant with good food if you have a little patience....kind of a diamond in the rough.
Highly variable results from Academy Ocean Grille....everything from total deilight to leaving without paying the check over a number of years. THey can;t seem to get the reservation loading for the place right....also horrible acoustics inside.
Seeking Restaurant in Portsmouth, RI.
DeWolfe Tavern is great, but it tends to have Indian roots/fusion to some of the spicing, so if you're of the mild persuasion, just ask the server to advise.
Persimmons is one of the best restaurants I've been to in New England. Chef was at Gracie's when it was on Atwells (and a hit).
Service and food are great, food presenation great....place is small though so be mindful of timing.
I hear Roberto's on the main drag in town is very good for italian....also a small place.
Dinner at Waterfire?
Am a big fan of 3 Steeple St....affordable, friendly, tasty and consistent AND they pour a good drink.
They have a Waterfire menu that helps them cope with the crush of the crowds and keeps the experience positive. A little simpler, but great and I think it's cool that they have come up with a formula that works both for them and the customers.
Maxwell's 148- Natick, MA
Haven't been back in awhile....sorry for missing question.
I call 150-200 for two a little pricey, particularly for a quirky suburban location.
By a little variable, I mean at that price, I should be consistently delighted. I'm usually pleased, but not always. I get more subjective as the tab goes up.
Persimmon
I love Persimmon.....have eaten there twice. Recently had the lobster risotto described above and it was excellent.
Also had a great halibut dish.
Had the lemon parfait dessert. Outstanding cappuccino. very nice glass of Merlot. Service was friendly but very professional.
Accompanied by two people from Dana Point, CA.....they were very impressed.
Fried Calamari: Rhode Island's Official Appetizer
Try it at 3 Steeple Street......always get it there. Good stuff.
Maxwell's 148- Natick, MA
I've been to Maxwell's about 4 or 5 times, so obviously I like it, but it is a high price point and its consistency is a little variable for that high price point.
Great bar. Great food. variable service. Zagat rated.
Yet another Cape thread - somewhat upscale, yet kid-friendly?
Oh yeah! Finely JP's in Wellfleet
Yet another Cape thread - somewhat upscale, yet kid-friendly?
Probably too late, but the Binnacle Tavern might be a good choice with the little one.
Beacon Room is OK.
Not sure I've heard anything about The Arbor in its new incarnation this season.
Looking for great chow on Cape Cod
Friendly Fisherman is great. Moby Dick's in Northern Wellfleet is also great. Terra Luna in N. Truro is good but on the fancy side by your definition.
Looking for casual dining with waterfront views in Rhode Island
Don't forget Lobster Pot in Bristol...the other two are a bit better, but Lobster Pot has a great view.
Best Cape Cod chow on a student budget?
In Orleans or Hyannis, Cooke's Seafood...in Orleans specifically, very consistently good.
In Eastham, I'd recommend Arnold's during the summer. Stay away from Lobster Shanty, a tourist trap. Eastham Lobster Pool is much better though overpriced. Friendly Fisherman is just a slight notch above "seafood shack", but is very good.
In Wellfleet, Moby Dick's.
