Cassis in Kansas City (Overland Park)
Went to Cassis with the wife yesterday for lunch - superb menu with impressive presentations and food. Everything we had was delicious including the perfectly crusty french baguettes served with the meal.
It's located in Town Center and is a French themed upscale restaurant. A bit pricey but it seems you get what you pay for.
Highly recommended - we can't wait to go for dinner.
Dying for a Curry in Kansas City
My experience with Kababesh :
We moved here recently from NY and have tried many pakistani restaurants. I would say that Kababesh ends up in the top third. Only tried the pakistani food but the Haleem and Nahari were fantastic, and the portions were large. Service was good and everything was very inexpensive. Were accustomed to pakistani food being expensive with little meat since it is usually halal as this place is, but the servings were huge. I do think it is worth the drive if you are a fan of or interested in trying pakistani food. The pakoras are excellent too.
Bonefish Grill in Kansas City (Overland Park)
My wife and I went there tonight - excellent. Yes, it is a chain. It's a damn good chain and in a city starved for good seafood it is a great addition. Both of our fish entrees were fresh and delicious. Portions of everything were large and the bill was not very pricy ($65 bucks for 2).
We had a glass of wine each, salads, and a grouper picata and a crusted rainbow trout. Bananas foster for dessert was the only mediocre thing.
Also, fresh bread served with pesto that they dilute out with olive oil at the table was a nice touch.
They told us a 25 minute wait and it was only 5 minutes.
Anyone else with experiences here?
Malaysian in Kansas City
I think they do lunch but I have not tried it yet. Certainly there is a hit or miss factor based solely on how adventurous your tastes are. We tried a fried mackerel dish that was not to my liking, but I guess I don't really like mackerel to begin with (too strong). My wife liked it. We also tried a shrimp soup that was too fishy for me. All of the curry's we have tried have been excellent.
Here's the e-mail address to get the menu (it usually comes on tues)

Malaysian in Kansas City
135th near Nieman (between Quivira and Switzer) - just got the menu from this week and it looks great. If by hot you mean spicy, most things on the menu are spicy.
Some things we've tried and liked -
Roti Canai for appetizer (don't get the garlic canai - not as good)
Nasi Lemak - very interesting dish - worth trying
Paul's Pork Chops - as usual in authentic ethnic restaurants the name does not do justice to the food.
For desert make sure you try the Ice Kacang - definetly one of the most unique desserts I've had.
And get on their e-mail list to get updates...
Pakistani in Kansas City
Here's another one for those of you who like Pakistani dishes.
Kababesh - www.kababeshgrill.com
Haven't tried any of their Indian food, but the Haleem and Nihari are fantastic.
Cheap too considering all the meat is halal...
Malaysian in Kansas City
My wife and I are new to the KC area and have been chowhound lurkers for years in NY. We've recently found an authentic gem in overland park - the family that owns Salsa's on 135th is Malay, and on Wed, Thurs and Fri they serve authentic Malaysian dishes in addition to their normal menu. The menu changes occasionally but if you sign up on their e-mail list you'll get updated menus in your mail...
