Muang Thai Red Bank

Went last night and liked it. Had spring rolls and beef and onion pastry rolls. Forget the name also we had Bangkok chicken w fried rice which I liked and my friend liked the soup w the chicken coconut milk lemongrass. Papaya salad and the Shrimo and pineapple fried rice. Good prices tasty food will go back. Owner came out and told us there opening up a space behind the building which will be good. Wish them luck! Worthy of a try fellow hounds. Only problem there was only one server and it was getting busy. Ask for the hot pepper condiment tray. Very good

Char - Red Bank

Impressed with the space. Not so much withe food. Was there and ate at the bar. Ordered a stoli raspberry and club. Tasted different. Second time I went for drinks and ordered the same. The nice bartender I see @Downtown told me they only have Van Gogh. Strike one. Drinks were weak and expensive as is the rest of the experience. I don't mind paying top dollar if it's a top shelf experience. The rest of the meal was as follows underdressed very uninspired mixed green salad with nothing that I remember in it and it was 8$. Cowboy rib eye ordered med rare came closer to med well. Having worked in restaurants in another life I almost never send anything back ... My bad I know . Ever see the movie Waiting? 35$ steak . Person I was with ordered crabcake app. 14$ didn't want to say anything as it was too late and they brought some home but they charged me 28$ for the dinner. Overloaded potato was undercooked and far from cooked enough 8$. Best part of the meal was the 13$ chocolate layer cake which is ridiculous big and good. Next time I'll come for cake and a drink. 145$ with 4 drinks pretip. Was there last Friday and met a table of four friends as there meal was coming out. My friend who orders med rare got a beyond rare and sent it back. He likes a specific wine which Buona Sera gets for him and Goomba Johnny from Coco Pari who has some deal with the place if you drop 500$ you get a hundred off his over priced wares. He tells my friend oh they got your wine in . My friend pays 100$ a btl . It's about 62$ wholesale. They charged him 175$ per. I heard they spent 3$ mill renovating the space so I get it. Last story which belabors the buyer beware theme. Same friend had a company sponsored dinner there for 40 people. If you guessed 5 grand you'd be wrong by about 3 Gs, the guy who paid upon speaking with my friend said there was a $700 discrepancy in the bill and he called the restaurant and they NEVER called back. He will not be having another event so take this for what it's worth. Beautiful space but know going in 3$ million needs to be recouped on your tab

Jimmy's "Old School" Italian Restaurant Asbury Park, NJ (my long winded review)

Had to put my two cents in about Jimmy"s. haven"t heard anyone mention Chicken Giacomo which was the original owners first name. It's the richest most delicious chicken dish in Monmouth county. It's pan fried Chicken stuffed w prosciutto and mozzarella finished in an Alfredo like sauce. Your cardiologist won't recommend it but I do. The pasta Divenczo and pasta di giovani are absolutely terrific . One is loaded w garlic in a fresh no nonsense red sauce and the other has Gaeta olives capers garlic in that same red sauce base. Simple yet delicious . Jimmy's special steak and the pizza are top shelf. I am a guy with a tapeworm undiagnosed that can eat a ton of food. You will not go wrong here. The Sopranos would make this there place . Ever wonder why there's no windows here fuggedaboutit!!! I like to get the pizza as an appetizer if it's a table of 4 or more. I like the way they cut it . This pizza is up there with some of the best I've had around here.

Phillys in atlantic highlands

Been to phillys twice. For a cheesesteaks aficionado like me here's the low down. Meat quality is excellent bread is the standard soft sub bread . What I liked was it tasted excellent but the half was a little light on the meat and the bread overwhelmed it. The next time I got a whole and it was much better . It was a half pound of excellent flavor top round. I know it's against tradition to get anything over than cheese wiz and fried onions. I prefer provolone California style which is let Tom fried onion and mayo. Don't knock it till you try it. Next time I will order fewer onions ...they loaded it up to the gills to the tipping point and they sliced the roll all the way through so everything flew out of it and made a huge mess. They offer all options to put on it as well as chicken cheese steaks and the roast pork broccoli Rabe with sharp provolone . I think you can get a great sandwich here just heed my warning get the whole cheesesteak tell them easy on the onion and dont slice the bread through. They use Hellmans too . The place is on west avenue right across
From Burger King. This is housed in one of my favorite dives of all time . Frank and Jeans. Best cheesesteak I ever ate.

Best Salted Caramel Chocolate Dessert

Try a salted caramel and chocolate gelato at Eataly. Two separate scoops. One of the best things I have eaten in my life. Full disclosure mine also had banana straciatella too. Crazy good. If it's nice out walk right across the street and sit on the beach and watch the world and IMHO the fools waiting online snaking around the park waiting for a hamburger . Yours will be better

Place was the worst chain restaurant meal I have ever had. I feel bad for the people that think this is somehow good for this town. Microwave something at home is my advice.

Beasty Burgers - Red Bank

Went back almost 2 months after my original post. Got the Jersey which is pork roll egg and cheese on a burger ordered the pork roll well done the egg over medium and the burger med-rare. Burger was overcooked and unlike my first experience this was a disappointment. Got the fried pickles and I tried my friends onion rings. I liked them both. Had the lava cake which was also a nice thing tasting wise not calorie wise. Waitress was nice and friendly but the burger was a "6. Can't win them all. My other friends came in later and their burgers were cooked correctly and they enjoyed there's so it wasn't a total disappointment. My other friend got the oh so hot overcooked but good tasting. I'll try again

Best Breakfast Monmouth County

Zoes in Atlantic is good. Home fries meh. Good omelets French toast and fruit pancakes. Wish they jazzed upped the potatoes and the bacon were of better quality. Friendly place and good value, in between Red Bank is a bit pricey but the guy has never made my over mediums wrong and they use Taylor Ham. My favorite egg breakfast is here -home fries are righteous!. If you want to eat a breakfast sandwich that will hold you till dinner. Get a PECSPAC w home fries . For those lost it's a pork roll egg and cheese with salt pepper and catsup. Sorry for the catsup . Tavolo in Fair Haven makes a great breakfast sandwich . High quality. Gotta mention even though it's not breakfast food the French Dip w provolone at In Between is a 9!!!!

Belford Bistro for a great luncheonette/ diner the In Between Red Bank. Talericios Middletown - Italian deli great sandwiches huge!!Flaky Tart Atlantic Highlands dessert / baked goods. Macaroons and smores pie Whoa! Cheesesteaks @ Ciao Bella Navesink. Pizza @ Nunzios Long Branch. Beasty Burger Red Bank. Zaiitoni Red Bank Greek Middle Eastern food.

Delorenzo's Tomato Pies, Robbinsville

Have to say DeLorenzos has a different yet top shelf pizza. Very crisp crust with flavor. Can't say for sure but I think they mix in olive oil in the dough. I like to judge a pizzeria by trying a plain and then usually a sausage and pepper. Both are a 9 plus. Place does an incredible business. It belongs on any true aficionados list . If you haven't tried and you love pizza . You know the rest...p.s Sausage pizza is the best I have had in NJ. I saw them make one as I was waiting. They mixed together the mozzarella and the uncased crumbled sausage and threw it down on the pie. Unorthodox but the result is nirvana

New Steak Restaurant in Asbury Park

Went to Ivan and Andy with a group of six big eating men who love high end wine and eating meat. I have to say we were treated like gold, Ivan was very nice with a great sense of humor. He understood we were spending big and he absolutely did the right thing by buying a bottle for every three we bought, eight were consumed , apologies to all the sensitive types around us. He brought us into the kitchen and I can tell you having worked in a few way back when I can say it was very clean and he showed us the aging meat where I saw the prime tags with my own eyes. He was very proud and enthusiastic and he said to me that Peter Luger had nothing on his meats. He was a butcher for 20-30 years ?? Blame the wine. His daughter made the pie. Fries were real and on the softer side. I enjoyed the garlic green beans and fresh mozzarella app. Steak was cooked perfect and the waitress was great. Guys like Ivan are rare in the restaurant biz and I hope he succeeds. If your into steak give it a shot.

Beasty Burgers - Red Bank

Was owed lunch by a co worker so we went to Beasty . I am a burger person and frequently disappointed by most, gotta recommend the burger here. They use Prime meat and you can taste it. To the tool who groused about it without trying it stick to Burger king pal. Not a fan of the owner but wisely he outsourced the kitchen to someone who knows what he's doing. Had the
Guinness Cheddar Bacon burger. The cheese sauce doesn't taste of that nasty beer but brings out the sharpness of the cheese without bringing out the separated oil . Fries were crispy and decent but I tasted too much oil aftertaste Bun was nicely toasted and the lettuce tomatoe onion were sparse but thinly sliced and the pickle a good one. I asked I'd they used Hellmans which they do and they had to get from the basement; weird but it was Hellmans. Ordered med-rare and was cooked perfectly. Their differentiation is that they sear one side nice with a nice crust then flip and cook the other side in the Au -Jus which makes the burger very soft and very wet and juicy. The Au Ju really. Is unneeded IMHO because the burger was really juicy to repeat. I would give my burger a 9.

Sienna Grill, Red Bank (formerly Two If By Sea)

Sienna like most new places it can sometimes take a while to hit your stride. They are an above average neighbor hood friendly place. The burgers arre delicious the menu should be explored but you'll be hard pressed to find a better value then on their half priced Wed. Heidi, the bartender is one of the greatest ever and you should see her bartend.. love her!! Jimmy the owner is a salt of the earth nice guy who is approachable and trying. Give it a shot.

Pazzo's Red Bank

Pazzo is a welcome new place which I have found to be uneven and inconsistent but they seem to be trying to get it together. Try the margherita Pizza and the chicken Savoy. It can get very cougar ville complete with aged Jersey Shore refugees.

Pizza in Monmouth County

Nunzios closes for the month of Feb. and when you go there you'll see why it doesn't have a web site. It closes at 8:30 I believe I can take partial credit for igniting the flame of Nunzios. I repeat get a plain with extra cheese and a special and put on a little salt and pepper and its IMHO pizza ecstacsy. Chop chop is a nice old school antipasti cross with iceberg salad it works. Try a parfait and then run 5 miles the next day. Try Luigis of Little Silver for pie get the rectangle with extra cheese

Bagel Recommendations in Central NJ?

bagel oven red bank one of the few places still using malt in its ingredients. they hold up to splitting freezing also the best deal in monmoth county buy 15$ of deli boars head normal prices and in some items cheaper get a dozen bagels free about 10$ value. hot bagel oakhurst which are fatter and a bit less chewy are a somewhat distant 2nd imho.

i didn't particularly care for this place. I dont know why rb has such bad italian Buona Sera, Sogno { just closed} Dannys, gaetanos, pastaria, buyer beware at all of these youve been warned worked in rb over 20 years can someone make it like grandma or whoever. I see a lot of mexican chefs behind the stoves at a lotta these places and theres not an italian in sight working the sauce. and no im not being racist just an observation. have yet to be blown away by an italian in rb to the poster mr bingley the food at downtown is pretty bad IMHO Red is better

no it isn't its been around since the 50's and looks like the pizza place in the opening Sopranos credits. i like the plain with extra cheese IMHO the regular is a little light on the cheese. there was a rumor that it used to be a place that took numbers back in the day and they started making pizza as a cover. Gotta love it jersey mob/pizza lore.

try zaaitooni in red bank on mechanic street more middle eastern but I think youll find a fix for some of those cravings. very clean place never have had a piece of rusty lettuce on my greek salad with grilled chicken eat them once a week for over a year

I second the in between in red bank. Bob the owner/chef is very good and has never made me an under or overcooked over medium no small feat their fried potatoes are best around,try the 3 eggs with pancetta delicous.. pepperry. chewy. Zoes in atlantic highlands I haven't seen mentioned I know it has gotten lumped up before on this board but I like it i wish the potatoes were more like in btwn If your there for lunch at zoes must get the potatoe salad best in monmouth county if u care

Crazies Ice Cream Rumson NJ

I believe they use Thomas Sweet ice cream which is good. This placed was /is owned by a local Rumson legend who passed away who was known as a very large hearted kinda crazy man. he was once arrested for alledgedly going with a rifle to rid the world of Ivan Boesky He also was rumored to have anonomously bought a teacher who was retiring from Henry Hudson his dream car a Ferrari Tom Selleck model 308 GTS I remember reading he was on trial it was revealed he was on lithium for health disorders. I appreciate someone who can laugh at himself and I think of John every time I ride by. he was a good man and had a nice ice cream place worth trying

Twin Lght Bakery in Atlantic Highlands

i like this place if the poster above thinks this place is expensive flaky is way worse. I think these are apple and orange bakerys. And in case you other chow hounders haven't noticed bakerys offering decent fresh baked goods are a rarity in these parts. please try this place and try a few of your favorites . I have had mostly positive things here. live locally ....have yet to try the bread ....on a red banks farmers mkt Panzanella kick. always on the sugar search and when you walk in it smells good. I really liked the cream puffs chocolate covered of course they have plain. The last time it didn;t taste as terrific but better than your avg. grocery offering and whole foods which I have found to be expensive and lame. Not everything is great cheesecake was very airy yet looked like a traditional ny style kind of a head fake and I would steer clear napoleans which are kind of an aberdeen proving ground IMHO of a bakerys skill and this one was good worth the run the next day i will dutifully report my other findings in future posts. to be fair and democratic I like flaky tart and know Marie personally the macaroons the choc chips the key lime and chocolate cream tarts top shelf worth the dough $$$$ other things not so sure 4.50 for a brownie really? not that great. I think there's room for both to succeed and I want both... call me greedy.. no a chowhound!

I read and heard that 4 new pizzerias are opening near term in red bank. lets hope and pray collectively someone(S) gets it right. Since I work there I'm happy. Here goes my current favorite taking the mantle held by Nunzios in Long Branch in for about the last 8 years or so to Frankie Feds. I believe all pizza needs to be eaten right out of the oven your mouth blisters are temporary remember that..Feds is cracker thin yet chewy with a little pull to it. it also has a slightly wetter feel to it than Pete and Eldas which I like but feel its over hyped. mad hatter Sea Bright similar story. I do like Jimmies Asbury park Vals, Brothers try the white with fresh sliced tomato and garlic trust me. Also if your in a i wanna be indulgent try a New England at Luigis Little Silver...Mr Pizza have to mention wife and kids love I'm neutral...Like front Street Trattoria try the mexican if again your in the non neopolitan or sicilian. I also have to mention Ciao Bella Navesink Ceaser and Paulie Lubrano formerly of Lubranos two of the nicest restauranteurs you'll meet Ceaser will spin pies and talk Yankees or politics sometimes both at the same time.. try the chicken vodka sauce or chicken alfredo but don't miss the sicil;iian with extra cheese. Have to finally mention Vesuvios Belmar Ruvolos welcome newcomer to the highlands area good luck to all the above and all chowhounders in their search for the perfect pizza or meal

Broad St Filling Station - Red Bank NJ

have had 2 good sandwiches here and would say its worth a try and they have different combinations. I do like sandwiches that are proprtioned well and here they definitely are.

Copper Canyon 8 Days a Week

I agree the salsa and chips are worth paying for. That said I love the steak they do tend to undercook the steak. I usually enjoy med rare like any good carnivore but I order it med, here. I have not heard any raves for the spring rolls with black bean red onion and chorizio on top of the hottest and best asian slaw phenominal.The salad with the chile pecans is excellent. Lunch has a great deal and the steak chicken or pork taios are money. I once had a chocolate mousse that had some powdery spicy chile pepper that might sound wierd but afrer a meal like what I have layed out it/s heaven. I wish they wouldn't keep rasing their dinner prices.
