Best non-nut dutch apple pie besides Pie N Burger

I wholeheartedly second The Filling Station in Orange. Their pies are homemade and works of art. Order a whole pie ahead of time and ask them to leave out the nuts; they will make to order. They are insanely affordable and yummy. My friend had a whiskey and pie birthday party and I brought their humungous apple pie with carmel dripped all over the top. It was the hit of the party. Their pies, from the homemade, perfectly crafted crusts to the fresh, flavorful innards, are truly exceptional. Worth the trip!

New Indian restaurant in Artesia?

I've been told there's a relatively new restaurant on Pioneer that's located on a balcony. Supposedly, it's incredible. Does anyone know the name of it?

Thanks!

i mean the real thing: which has better oaxacan?

Ok, which Guelaguetza?

So, I have to impress some friends from Texas, and I'm now utterly confused on which location to take them to. I was inclined towards 8th Street, but have never been to any of them.

Help me out, Oh Sage Hounds!

P.S. I reviewed restaurants in Oaxaca for Condé Nast, so this place better be good. I've had the best (which is mostly in the mercados!)

Thanks all!

Are There Any Non-Asian Restaurants in Los Angeles That Actually Serve Tea Brewed With Tea Leaves?

Peet's serves loose leaf. As does Coffee Bean, but I'm not a big fan of their's.

So far, best tea in L.A. for me, at the Huntington Library's Tea Garden. Loose leaf amazing tea! My brothers are coffee drinkers and I like only savory, strong loose leaf tea. Well, they were serving raspberry tea that morning and we each drank about 7 cups! It was that good.

It is hard to find loose leaf. Look for independent tea and coffee houses. It's a real disappointment, I agree.

Again, I'll recommend Long Beach.

Benley's for great Vietnamese food. Little pricier than a hole in the wall. In the TJ Maxx strip mall on Ball Road at Norwalk.

Kid friendly breakfast or lunch with the best kept secret view in LBC: Long Beach Museum Cafe (closed Mon) on Ocean Blvd.

2nd St in Belmont Shore:
George's Greek Cafe
Le Creperie
Open Sesame
and some other little treasures up and down the alleys that I can't remember the names of.
Fullerton is great to explore. Don't remember much but
Rutebagorz
all natural. yummy!

I may post more as I think of them. Enjoy!

Two Part OC Question

Zov's is amazing...restaurant and bakery; call them if you strike out at Cafe Blanc. Pascal's is the ultimate: yummy & understated, romantic. Very expensive. His sous chef was there the night we went and it was still incredible. Enjoy!

Which LA/OC grocery chain is best?

Wild Oats is good; it's in Long Beach. I highly recommend the local Farmers' Market. They are amazing. The one I go to is behind Wild Oats off of PCH/2nd Street in Long Beach on Sundays. Prices are great and there are some high quality produce vendors. They have one in Cerritos, which is closer to you during the week. Check this site:
http://www.harborareafarmersmarkets.org/

You may also want to check out the OC Farmers' Markets, though I've never been to any. Check them out here:
http://orange.cfbf.com/cfm.htm

Bristol Farms is great for meat, but expensive. Also in Long Beach, though off of Bellflower.

Also, the closest Mother's to you I think is the one in Huntington Beach on PCH.

I agree about T Joes's: their produce is awful.

I vote for the Farmers' Markets. Good luck

Long Beach restaurant for food snob and kids?

I drove over to see why they weren't answering phone....they're on vacation! I would like to try it, but so far I've tried 4 times with no luck....maybe it's not meant to be? Anyway, all the kids are out of the picture for tonight, so the sky's the limit! We'll see what we can do. And I love Wine Country, but we always have tons of bottles around because we're in the business as well, so I don't get to frequent it as much as I'd like to.

Ok, so we have reservations at George's tonight, but I'm kind of open to other possibilities. It's a much smaller group, all adults, so we have many more possibilities. I still have a few hours. Food snob is still in....suggestions welcome!

Thanks.

P.S. Went for dim sum this morning in GG. Seafood Palace at 8602 Westminster. Yummy!

Long Beach restaurant for food snob and kids?

Benley's is looking better and better to me. I got a little turned off by it at first because it is literally two minutes from where I live, but every time I went, they were closed for a private party or just closed. But literally every review I've read has given them a full five stars. That's pretty impressive. Thanks for the recommendation. Now I just have to figure out how to get a reservation, because they aren't answering their phone.

Ferraro's is fantastic...and it's walking distance from my house. My dad's Calabrese and knows the owner well. I didn't know about the Braciole, though. Thanks, great tip!!!

Cucina Picarelli - Long Beach

Yes, it's very good. Prices are affordable and the food is quite good. I haven't been for a few months, bt the wait staff has always been amazing, as well. I'd suggest the indoor patio. Everyone I've taken has really enjoyed it....well worth trying. Plan for dessert—it's delicious. And let me know what you think.

Long Beach restaurant for food snob and kids?

I know, I know. I was thinking about George's, because we're Greek/Italian and that might work. I'll tell you more about him; he's the produce buyer for Whole Foods, and so quality is THE most important thing for him. He's not overly pretentious I guess for a food snob; he loves Little Saigon dives if quality is good. (By the way, I live by Bentley and have always wanted to try; I will do that on your recommendation soon).

I guess character and quality with a kid friendly atmosphere would work. But man, this is a hard one! If it were breakfast or lunch, Long Beach Museum Cafe works on both counts. I was also thinking PF Chang's for the family people in the group, but I know my brother would cringe at a chain!

By the way, the family people are Manhattan Beach folk, but brother is set on staying near Long Beach. Dang, this is so particular and quirky, I really don't blame you if you have no other thoughts/comments. (Also by the way, been hearing such good things about Enrique's and will definitely be trying it)....thanks, thanks for the thoughts.

Long Beach restaurant for food snob and kids?

I am looking for a restaurant in Long Beach that will work for a party that includes a food snob and kids. I'm tearing my hair out on this one; the needs of the two seem in opposition. Thanks for your help.
