Central Bottle: Fantastic Wine & Cheese Store Central Square
It seems a bit odd to criticize the price of a wine you obviously have not the slightest clue of, other than that it is obscure to you. If it is a really good champagne, then $56 could be a quite OK price.
Similar with the other wines, you seem not to know any, but judge them strongly. Based on the importers they carry it seems more likely that what is obscure to you is not obscure at all to others. And there is nothing wrong with being limited on South America, South Africa and Australia. While there is plenty of drinkable stuff at reasonable prices from these areas, not much of it is truly exciting imho.
Looks like you have plenty of wine stores you like. If this new store does not appeal to you that is fine, but no reason to insinuate that they are gauging their prices when you don't know at all if they do.
Freiburg, Germany
Well, what is "overboard'? And does it need to be in the city? The area has lots of very good restaurants in all categories, with the most exciting being in the small villages around. Pretty much the best dining area in Germany.
What do I have to do to get a proper cappuccino around here?
Simon's on Mass Ave between Harvard and Porter serves a Cappuccino that would shine anywhere in Italy. Next best is indeed the "traditional" at Peet's.
Le Puy en Velay
We went there also about 3 years ago. I think it had a bib gourmand in the GM, and I remember a quite pleasant meal on the level one expects from these restaurants. And the price was right.
But obviously in 3 years lots of things can change.
At that time Régis Marcon's family had openened a nice little store in the covered market in Le Puy. Great wines and some interesting preserved food items.
Has anyone tried Sensing?
The Sensing Restaurants are supposed to be the casual places of Guy Martin (who has been down to two stars with Le Grand Vefour since 2008).
The original Sensing in Paris does not even have a single star and from what I remember never had one. Regarding the Boston version they serve some pretty good and some just OK dishes, but there is certainly potential for it to become one of the better french restaurants in town. Decor, however, is like the breakfast room in a suburban Doubletree.
