Mickeys Pizza - Mississauga
Just don't call in with anything but rave reviews as the woman owner there will just argue with you...we were underwhelmed as per my review below but all she did was talk over me...offered me free pizza and I turned them down as I could not be bothered with such attitude. Rather wait till I go to Chicago again for REAL Chicago Style Deep Dish, that is 'Deep Dish' not 'Deep thick Dough' pizza as Mickeys is.
European Dobos Torte, where to buy a slice retail?
Hi all..want to get some for my wife and used to go to Sweet Gallery but they closed down Mt Pleasant and Eglinton location that I know..will be in that region on Monday and wanted to get a slice for my wife for her birthday..any help would be appreciated for this now panicked husband..thanks
Mickeys Pizza for deep dish lovers. Worth the drive to Clarkson.
Hi..just as a note, unless you have raving reviews about them, don't call them to give feedback as they do not want to hear it. Wasn't overly thrilled with the doughiness of the pizza and did not stack up to the ACTUAL Chicago Pizza I had years back..which I still rave about even travelling several times to Italy. Sandy the lady who took my call wasn't thrilled I wasn't fawning over her pizza and putting words in my mouth..so based on her attitude and not the product I will never do business with them again..product was decent, I like thick dough pizza like Palermo Style (but round not square), but toppings were a little light for the high price paid and higher expectation.
Mickeys Pizza - Mississauga
Tried it, had deep dish from Chicago in the past, was more like deep dough...Real Chicago style has thinner crust deep in toppings, this one was reversed, thin toppings deep thick dough...tasted good but should be re branded for people who actually have had the real thing IMHO. If it wasn't so expensive I would try again, but probably will not.
Where to find Prague #1 Powder in Mississauga for making a ham...Superstore just had a big sale on pork leg...
Hi..if anybody knows would appreciate it...grabbed a 22lb pork leg that I want to cure or brine for a few weeks and the above seems to be a vital component...thanks Bob
Best Indian Dining Options
Somebody recommended Aroma to me which is located in downtown core. Any comments?
Memphis Fire Barbeque Company - Stoneycreek
Wood burning smoker, nice...I will give it a try next time I am in the area..I usually try a new restaurant with brisket, one of the hardest things to make right...pulled pork is pretty easy and idiot proof..as for the twang, you probably did not experience as it is pretty apparent when you do..hits the tip of the tongue sort of like when you have bad orange juice, that sort of thing.
Mississauga Lunch with Client - Derry/Hurontario
I like Grill One or whatever it is called now on the NE corner but probably too casual for you...
Memphis Fire Barbeque Company - Stoneycreek
Interesting, I may like the ribs based on above..question was it too smoky like acrid or twangy smoky, don't know a better way of describing it..I used to oversmoke my ribs the bad way with tons of white smoke coming out of both ends of the offset, knew I was doing it wrong when my friends left the ribs and ate the sides :-).... did not know any better so started undersmoking for others but love it on the smoky side myself....question just so I get a better idea, as hate blowing 20 or so bucks on something i like..do you like ribfest style ribs or swiss chalet? I find them undersmoky but just wanted to get an idea...thanks
Amber European Restaurant - BWV
Hi..if you had only one thing to choose, I would say YES..much better and fatter than Polonez...but a close second is the Kotlety as it is almost, I say almost as good as the ones my wife makes!
Amber European Restaurant - BWV
Thanks for the follow up..I felt bad after posting as I thought afterwards I was on the rude side but its just I have been there many many times, actually went for first date with my wife there so sentimental I guess..but don't slam it unless you ordered something of core competencies not something on the menu for the legitimate reasons you stated above. Now for the Schnitzel, I have never ordered the bland or plain one, but the mushroom or cordon bleu ones and always happy, as plain one will be that, plain...now my wife who is of Polish descent will make schnitzel but jazzed up with Tony Chachere's creole seasoning mixed in which is darn good...try with potato pancakes too...oh yeah!...but bland seasoning wise S&P are typical....I remember a Restaurant Makeover where they were in some Polish place and the cook was saying 'now adding some spices' and the celeb chef said 'that's salt and pepper, not spices' That is Polish cooking, garlic yes, but other than S&P no...and if it was just warm and not hot, if that person did not send it back for another one than shame on that person, your own fault..you are out paying good money for dinner, if you are to accept cold food without sending back for proper that is your fault and do not whine afterwards about it.
Amber European Restaurant - BWV
Hi..sorry, got to ask..why go to Amber and order chicken? You could have had Kotlety, pierogies, anything Polish/Ukranian...which are all good as I have been there many times, but its like going to Pappas Grill in Greektown and ordering Asian stirfry, or Swiss Chalet and ordering a hot dog..why bother going? My advice is common sense, go to a specialty place and order what they are known for, if you are going to go off base which IMHO you did, you got what you asked for. Not every restaurant is good at everything..I have had their schnitzel and still like it better than Polonez...
Where to buy ground Buffalo or Caribou meat in Mississauga or GTA?
Hi...looking to make a chili for a football weekend and one of my buddies allergic to beef...so wanted to obtain one of the above and mix with ground pork to hopefully get similar outcome...thanks to any replies...
Where to go for GOOD SOUP
Polonez keeps disappointing, was there Saturday, bean soup bit bland and weak on the beans, was cold....for premium prices should be better.
Shawarma @ Yonge North York Centre
Hi All...going to be in the area next week..want to grab a quick bite with friends, so many places, any suggestions? Shawarma Max is near there (never been), any others or is that the best bet?

Whats the budget as I was there a few months ago for the Chef's tasting menu but did not have to pay...real pricey but if you are into the fancy food and molecular thing than it is the place for you.
Memphis Bar-B-Que
Filled with tourists and locals who don't know any better? I was a tourist who bought into the hype of the place...glad I ordered the minimum to try as it was disappointing and weird with the raw rub on the ribs.
Memphis Fire Barbeque Company - Stoneycreek
maybe he showed that just for the Restaurant Makeover show.
Brampton finally has BBQ
Hi...heading to Brampton on Wednesday...does anybody know if they have an online menu as I would like to pre-order something and pickup. Also do they sell the meat by the 1/2 pound or pound? If anyone knows I would appreciate.
BBQ Memphis -Driving thru on a Sunday
Tom's is closed on Sundays, as it is in an industrial area, so is Cozy Corner...(wanted either on a Sunday and could not go)
BBQ Memphis -Driving thru on a Sunday
I had brisket at Corky's and found it quite good...although the waiter flat out said they do not sell very much. Interstate's brisket was also good but was chopped, probably the point where Corky's served sliced from the flat. Hope this helps.
Memphis Bar-B-Que
If I returned to Memphis, and had only one place to go...Interstate. When I went there in 2009 I had so many BBQ joints to choose from with all kinds of reviews that I decided to ask who would know the best...the people... everyday people working at the airport, car rental, Kroger, and even my hotel front desk dude... ALL 4 of them said Interstate! They did not let me down! I would second with Corky's, Leonard's and way way down the list, Rendezvous.

Big smoker out back? You mean they are using a stick burner and not gas? Now I am curious as being a backyard stick burner myself I am not a huge fan of the SP or OHP type of gas units as there is something lost there compared to the real deal. Let me know, I travel down that way often and never heard of the place.
where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??
You said it well..not a destination place by any means but if in the area, even if I am in BWV and we have a craving we go there. And the proprietor is nice, very hard working, always there, my wife has known her for years growing up in the area. As for the decor, according to my wife the place has had a makeover as the fryers used to be at the front of the house...yikes, don't want to see the 'before' pictures.
where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??
Kingsway, decent but expensive. The deep fat fried Haggis wasn't bad... For me the best value for decent fish and chips, try Vicky's Fish and Chips on Roncesvalles. Ambiance, decor, terrible...most on here would look at the place and possibly keep walking, but fish and chips for $7.99 or $6.99 for takeout the value is there....AND if someone craving Thai food, they are a split personality place serving a full Thai menu as well. Try it, not for the upper crust, but not $40 bucks for a couple craving wanting fish and chips like Kingsway.
YOU GOTTA GO TO BARQUE FOR BBQ!
I second it..BR's pulled pork is the closest to comp or back yard worthy as you can get here. All the others I have tried ended up being a little 'flat' tasting IMHO.
YOU GOTTA GO TO BARQUE FOR BBQ!
Wings are tough to do...they only cook for about 1-1.5 hours max so if you are using mostly gas cooker and weak smoke, you will not get the flavour you will by letting a hunk of meat sit in there for 6 hours for instance. I do wings in my backyard offset using charcoal and wood and when I do, I make sure I add some extra wood to pack a punch right off the bat. Otherwise they would be less flavourful. As for the weak smoke flavour, does anyone know what kind of smoker are they using? Southern Pride or Ole Hickory Pit? Or a large commercial Pellet? Definitely not a wood/charcoal combo.
Cheap food for office party?
I second that...if you are in Dupont Dundas area or driving distance, Winner! Chicken, rice potatoes, we have done this for crowd many times and gone over well.
Modestly Priced in Niagara Falls?
Hi...my wife and I go often to Texas Roadhouse, I get a 6oz Sirloin with chili and salad, all the buns you can eat, she gets chicken critters which are massive hunks of white meat probably the equ of a full breast American sized huge, deep fried, with french fries, we are on their loyalty program so spiffs galore, free blooming onion sometimes, and the bill rarely exceeds $20 for both of us. We are not boozers so that may be part of it but value, oh yeah! And the food is good! They also have a seasonal spiff 'Texas 2fers' 2 can dine for $15.99 two full meals. Yup. Try to find that in GTA, other than Master Steaks in Mississauga.
