Nutriotionists in Montreal?

I have consulted here in the past http://www.nutrium.org/qui-sommes-nous/equipe
Not sure if they can accomodate vegeterian diets though, you could call and ask.

Mtl restaurants closed during the contruction holiday

Graziella is supposedly closed too for a few weeks.

Where to buy stove and fridge in Monteal?

I agree, Brault & M. is fine. I bought ours there about 2 years ago (and we had shopped around quite a bit), I think I paid about $1k for the fridge and about $600 for the stove. Never had a problem. And no, we did not take the extra warranty.

Early August Montreal/Quebec City

in Montreal: except the obvious choices for lunch/dinner (Au Pied de Cochon, Lemeac, Europea, La Montée), I tend to gravitate towards the same ones... Solymar for Peruvian, Ouzeri on St-Denis for traditional Greek, Il Piatti della Nonna for home-cooked Italian food, Mekkdala or Magdala for Ethiopian (although if you don't like Indian, you might not like Ethiopian either... not that they're similar, but everyone i know who does not like one, does not like the other either).

Old Quebec City Gourmandise - Need the best for poutine, crepes, beer, wine, etc.

Montreal Recommendations

Au Pied de Cochon, Garde-Manger... fun places, very good food. Not sure if you can still get reservations for next weekend though (should have already grabbed the phone by now).

Zawahdeh Lebanese restaurant

I went to this place a several years ago (5 or 7?) and remember really enjoying it. I don't remember what I had, but it was a tasting menu and it was great. I am happy to hear they're still doing well and will probably head back there sometimes soon. Thanks for putting it back on (my) map, davyboy!

Why aren't people going to l'Inconnu? It's dead, but the food is great!

L'Inconnu has been open for a bit over a year and a half I think... and yes, it was the location of La Brunoise before. I have been there several times and each time at least half of the restaurant was full.

Montreal Food not to be missed?

The area around the Station Centrale d'Autobus is quite aweful (food wise). Montreal has a pretty good metro (subway) system, I would definetely take advantage of that and discover what Montreal truly has to offer. As for the $1 home-made pizza, I don't know the place, but there are tons of $1 pizza places around Montreal (especially downtown) that serve aweful and greasy pizzas.
SO... for pâtisseries, I'd suggest Première Moisson... there is one at the Central Station (for trains), which is about 4 metro stops away from Berri (where the Station Centrale d'Autobus is located). For poutine, La Banquise would be your place to go, although if you cross a La Belle Province, you might try it there as well. It is a greasy diner, but they make a good poutine.
For cupcakes, here's a thread you might want to read: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/622822
For cheap samosas (and Indian food): http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/614203
And since I am assuming that you are on a budget (from your post), here's another thread that may be of interest: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/622824

Why aren't people going to l'Inconnu? It's dead, but the food is great!

The pain perdu and the crème brulee trio were the highlights of my two visits at this restaurant. Both times I went to l'Inconnu with friends, I really enjoyed every entrée and main. Well prepared, nice portions and very, very tasty. It was the desserts that blew me away however, especially the rosemary crème brulee, something I would have never picked would I have seen it all alone on the menu.

Palais des Congrès : Sat Night Group Dinner

For pasta, the first one that comes to mind is the Spaghetti Factory in the Old Montreal, about a 10-15 min. walk to the Palais des Congres. It fits your budget as well.
There are however other better restaurants than that one.. I am thinking of Le Local, Garde-Manger.. but no pasta variety there.

accommodation for big groups

What is your price point and what type of cuisine are you looking for?
L'Inconnu and La Colombe accomodate big groups (even with a fixed menu if requested), as does Au Pied de Cochon... and many others that slip my mind at this point.

Visit to Montreal(from NYC) - help w/ neighbourhoods & french food

Au Pied du Cochon serves a lot more than just pork and duck on any given day, they have at least 1 or 2 chicken and fish plates on their regular menu. Also, the seafood season just started, so they will have a lot of variety of that and fish as well.
Other more fancy French restaurants (but not too expensive)... I'd go to Lemeac.

Memorial Day Weekend in Montreal. Help with itinerary.

APDC should definetely not be ruled out, although if you haven't reserved yet, I doubt you'll be able to get anything at this point for the weekend.
I would go to Club de Chasse et Peche over Toque, and add La Montee to your list of possible places.

Thai, Portuguese, and Casa de Espanol

For Portugueuse, I'd definetely go to Cafe Ferreira if budget permits. Make sure you reserve too. And if not, I'd go to Chez Doval.

Sunday Lunch in Downtown

oh My! I can't believe I did that! :-) I'll put it down to the fact that it is "Friday" for me since I will not be working tomorrow... in any case, it was very busy today at lunch.

Sunday Lunch in Downtown

I went to l'Aromate today for lunch. It was my second time and except the noise factor, I was thoroughly glad of the choice I made. The portions were quite big (I would think that these should be dinner portions) and very good. I had the table d'hôte chicken mousse as an entrée and the pesto penne as a main. Both were very good, and again, very large portions. The service was good too, and am I ever glad I had reserved! It is of course Friday downtown, so as I was walking in I heard the host turning away a few people. The place was full the whole time I was there, and that brings me to the only thing I would like to see change: the noise level. Next time, I will either go sometimes on the weekend or for a late lunch to avoid the business crowd.

Old Montreal - best steakhouse in or near

Out of curiosity, what would be the price at Gibby's for an appetizer, main (steak) and dessert? I went on their website and they don't list the prices. My BF is a huge steak fan too and I am thinking to take him there for our anniversary.

Walking distance to the Bell Centre

Who has some ideas of a decent restaurant (not too expensive... $15-25 for mains) within 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Bell Centre? I would like to avoid Baton Rouge and the Keg if possible. My limit would be Crescent to the west and René-Levesque to the East, and up to Maisonneuve to the North.
... if I remember correctly, there is this small Italian (Santa Lucia?) restaurant on Stanley or Drummond, south of Ste-Catherine... has anyone been there?
Oh! and this is for tonight! I am looking forward to your suggestions!

Pied de cochon, seafood season?

I am crossing my fingers too! I'll be there on May 15th!

Just like home

Montreal is full of "pockets" of really nice neighborhoods, all with their own different sounds, tastes and smells. The hippest and trendiest neighborhood is still (probably) the Plateau: http://www.sitebits.com/canada/montreal/districts/plateau-mont-royal.html Downtown Montreal has its own charm too (more anglophone); the Monkland (NDG) neighborhood is also one of my favourites. You can check the general outline of the neighborhoods here: http://www.sitebits.com/canada/montreal/
As for restaurants, search this board, you will find many, many suggestions! Here are just a few to get you started: Au Pied de Cochon, Lemeac, Decca77, Ouzeri (on St-Denis), Club Chasse et Peche, Garde-Manger, Inconnu, L'Express...

Sushi Yasu in Brossard

For those of you who live on the South Shore and were deploring the lack of some decent fresh sushi, I accidently discovered.. .Sushi Yasu. It's a small place on boul Rome (right before the 132). I met a Chinese acquaintance a few weeks and she was raving about the good sushi quality of this place, and the fact that the chef is actually Japanese (which is not the case in most Japanese/sushi places on the Shore).
So we went to try it last week and really liked it. It is not the absolute best sushi I've ever had, but it is pretty close. You could just taste the freshness! We started with entrées of tempura (shrimp, asparagus, calamari and some white fish) - the batter was nice, not too thick and not oily. The other entree was some grilled ginger calamari, the portion was quite big (for an entree) and the dish was really nice. The sushi was, as mentioned above, very fresh and very good. And all that for about $40 (with tea).
I highly recommend this place. If you go on the weekend however, it might be worth calling to reserve though.. We were there on a Wednesday night, around 6 pm, and the place was full... half of which were Japanese people (I think) since they were all ordering in an Asian language ( I cannot make the difference between Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese... and since my source says the owner/chef is Japanese... I believe it was Japanese I was hearing)
Oh, and they also do take-out!

New indian place in Brossard

I am trying to visualize where that is... can you please mention a street name?
I tried the Tandoor restaurant behind the Champlain Mall and was very disappointed.
I also noticed that there is a new Indian near the Brault & Martineau Liquidation store on Taschereau (right before the SuperC). It looks nice, has anyone tried it yet?

Lunch Downtown with picky guests

In this case, I would go with the standard chains: the Keg, Baton Rouge... both places are really busy during the week though so reservations in advance are a must. You might also want to check out the menu at Decca77, I hear it is great.

Group Dinner

I am sorry, Alyson777, but I stand by my APDC recommendation, especially for someone not from Montreal. It is one of the best places this city has to offer and it is quite an experience. I was also there with a large group (about 20 people) 3 years ago, so I know that they do accomodate for large groups.
However, I do agree that if any number of people in your party, MartyQ, are vegetarian, APDC is not the place for that.
If you're looking for more upscale French, I would go to La Montee (however, I don't know if they take big groups). Another interesting idea (very different from La Montee) would be La Brunoise.

Group Dinner

APDC!!!! If you call very, very early (like next week), I am sure they can accomodate for such a large group.

African Food?

I highly recommend Mekdala: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/503138.

Saturday night downtown for 3 young ladies

Have you been to APDC (Au Pied de Cochon) before? You should definetely try it... search this board for the reviews of this place.

HELP..on 19th bday dinner

If you want loud and energetic atmosphere, I believe that Holder can deliver that (over Pino). Although I do not mind the food at Pino, Holder's is a tad better. Personally, I also like Ouzeri (on St-Denis) a lot (trendy atmosphere) especially for groups, and it definetely cheaper than Holder and Pino. Very good wine selection as well and the prices are not outrageous.

Le Gourmet (Granby) - anyone know this place?

J., thanks for your reply. I was truly disappointed in their portions and the quality of the seafood and my escargots entrée. If I would have taken the lamb and another entrée, my experience might have been completely different.
I have heard about Faucheux before, and I will suggest that next time I will be in the area. On another note, what is your opinion of Di Carlo (since you seem to know the places in Granby) ?
