Good Chinese food in Staten Island...anywhere?!

My sister -in- law recently moved out to Staten Island and not one good chinese place to be found as of yet. I've looked on the old threads and I haven't found a thing! She is in the Rossville/woodrow area near Hugenaute(sp?). Any suggestions isn't there anything out there?
Another friend told me there are no good Chinese restaurants on SI, common I can't believe it!

David's Brisket House: Renovation or Out of Business?

I was there last week and the fryer was in and so is the fridge and it's loaded with snapple and soda and home made ice tea and lemonade etc. They are super nice guys and I hope it all works out for them. Going to stop there for lunch today, get a small pastrami on rye. Haven't tasted the breakfast yet or the corned beef, might ask if they can do a half and half on a small sandwich.

David's Brisket House - New Location in Bay Ridge

I was there...twice already, love it! I never got to their original location. I was planning for years but never went. As I rode home from work I turned up 5th ave. and saw the sign. Tried the brisket...for me to die for, the gravy alone I could drink. Next we tried the pastrami, which as you say can definately hold it's own against any of the heavy hitters, absolutely delicious,a bit smokey, not too salty, super good!

I don't even know the name of the fruit store I go to, shame on me,but it's a great place. It's on 75th Street and New Utrecht Ave, diagonally across from Pastosa.
The fruit is always fresh and certain times of the year there are certain fruits that come out, like an apricot/plum cross, black apricots, something that's just called an orange melon. Looks like a honeydew but has an orange cast to it, never ever got one that wasn't super sweet. Fava beans in season, different peppers,2 or 3 different eggplants(chinese, regular, mini, etc) Summer tomatoes from NJ,plum tomatoes, grape tomatoes and more. They sell eggs and bread from Pane di Casa and nuts and dried fruit. They even sell about 5 different potatoes and sometimes 2 different types of sweetpotatoes. And everything else a fruit and vegetable store sells, I love this place. It's very hard to find a good fruit and veg store these days, at least in my neck of he woods.

Just started working in Williamsburg...where are the best foodie places?

I love Pies n Thighs for their fried chicken. It is absolutely to me one of the best I ever had. The crust is thin and crisp and the chicken juicy.

David's Brisket House: Renovation or Out of Business?

David's in Bay Ridge opened! I went there last night for 2 brisket sandwiches and one pastrami...which unfortunately I didn't get to taste, it was for my son and he didn't come for it till I left the house. I Ioved the brisket! I got the regular size, plenty of moist meat inside and the rye like was said before doesn't get in the way of the taste of the meat, nor does it get gummy. I also loved the gravy, deep and rich tasting, but I could have used more. He gave me a half cup for 2 nice size sandwiches, for me I like to have lots of gravy on my meat, but it was very delicious as it was. After what some people have said here I'm going to try the pastrami next. I'm so glad they put one in Bay Ridge, I live in Bensonhurst so this is great!

Dessert for a crowd (to pick up) for this weekend- Brooklyn

How about Villabate-Alba, bring gelato, a couple of quarts and buy their brioche buns to make icecream sandwiches. The gelato is to die for especially the pistacio and strawberry. I brought a cooler with ice and did that last month, everyone loved it. Or just get some of their italian pastry you can't miss with that either. I don't know what's on your side of Brooklyn but we have Aunt Butchies here on 13th Ave.I believe around 68th St for cheesecake, I'm not a big Juniors fan. Whatever you decide hope you all enjoy:)

Places for dinner in Harrisburg PA.

Hi,
We're going to be in Harrisburg in March and we'll have one night for dinner with a small group.
Any bar and grills with good food, fun place or just a moderately priced steak house? Not sure what everyone will want but I'm sure after a long day they'll want to have some fun and good food.
Thanks for any info:)

big w's (wingdale/dover plains) is open!

Well we got to Mo Gridders, I liked it very much. I will say this, Big W's got him by a mile with his brisket, for me it's Big W's over Mo's, but I will go back to Mo Gridder's it's so close.

Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches

Have you ever gone to Carlo's grocery on 20th Ave. and 52nd street? I love their roast beef mozz., their veal pizziaola is very very good, used to be able to cut with a fork. They are a little grocery with a kitchen in the back, daddy does the cooking and the family works the store. Of course other cold cut sandwiches, chickencutlet parm. and more.
A really good tuna sandwich, for me 2 places 1. Cropsey Bagel LOVE their tuna. I have to bring my mother a container and 2 bagels every weekend. And their bagels are great by the way, they also carry Bell Bialies. 2. Sorry don't know the name, it's the diner on 13th Ave. and 75th street. My girlfriend loves their tuna sandwich. Sometimes we head there for lunch during work and the waiter that works the floor makes one of the best egg creams I had in a long long time.

big w's (wingdale/dover plains) is open!

I'm on vacation this week. We were going to take a ride to Mo Gridders since it's only 40minutes from us. Reading this makes me want to take the ride and go back to Big W's. He is such a nice person, gave us lots of food and I know he didn't charge us for all of it. It was my birthday and I wanted a T-shirt when we left and he threw me one and wouldn't take a penny. Nice guy, great BBQ, I love it.

Need old fashioned half sheet birthday cake recs -- Park Slope or vicinity

Well, unfortunately I don't know anyone in Park Slope, but Shopright on McDonald Ave. and Ave. I makes birthday cakes. Sheet cakes or layer cakes. Never got one but I've seen a few and they look very nice and not expensive.

Best fried chicken in Brooklyn?

What about Ruthies on Dekalb Ave., I was there tonight. I thought the fried chicken was excellent. It was very juicy, crispy and not greasy at all. The sides were pretty darn good too, candied sweet potatos and mac and cheese, the bf had the seasoned rice which was very tasty. I had the half tea half lemonade, good, I didn't find it overly sweet and the staff was great, and Ruthie is a sweetie.

biscuits in Park Slope area?

If you want to give making your own bisquitsanother try I have a little trick I learned many years ago from a southern cook. Keep a cotton kitchen towel around just for this, or I've even used a new pillow case(kept just for this use). When you finished your bisquit dough, flour your towel, yes, the towel and put your bd on there, then grab the corners on opposite ends of the towel and knead your dough that way. Pulling the towel up and over the dough, go back and forth a few times till dough is smooth. You barely have to touch the dough, all you do is pat it out or a light roll and cut your bisquits. They always come out light and fluffy.

Best Cannoli????

By the way, has anyone tasted the cannoli at Royal Crown, I know they're known for their brick oven bread, but the cannoli are truly excellent. Very crisp shell and you know the filling was made with ricotta, it has a nice not too sweet cheesy kind of flavor. Almost like cheesecake in a cannoli shell.

BBQ lovers, Run-don't walk-to Mo Gridder's

I went up to Mo's, it was worth the trip. We had brisket sandwiches, with the rice and beans, it was very good. We took home 2 racks of ribs and baked beans, and took a pulled pork sandwich home for my son. I can only say I wish I had a pulled pork sandwich, it was absolutely delicious! Moist with a little of Mo's bbq sauce it really was enjoyable. I liked the brisket, but I like Big W's better, sorry Mo, I do. The ribs were very good, everyone enjoyed them. It didn't take that long to drive up there from Bensonhurst, less then an hour and coming back we took the BQE and it took 35-40 minutes, definately will go again.

Best Ice Cream in Brooklyn

We went to JT yesterday, wonderful! I had the vanilla and the chocolate raspberry. I thought it was a little pricey, $6 for 2 scoops and some hazelnuts, am I wrong or just used to bensonhurst prices? But it was creamy, excellent icecream.

Best Ice Cream in Brooklyn

Amy, I have to agree with you there on the VL strawberry. I went to the Barnes and Nobels a few weeks back and happened to see their truck. I made the boyfriend hang a U'y, had to check it out. The vanilla was gone so I had the strawberry. It wasn't creamy, actually I thought it was a little on the icy side. For $3.50 a cone I thought it should have been better. Vanilla must be really good, it was gone. And I agree with the Villabate folks, I love to take a walk up 18th ave. just to get their gelato, really good.

Best Brooklyn Flagel

the bialy store on Coney Island Ave...wowww. We lived in Trump Village and that was THE bialy place to go to. When I got older I'd drive out to Bell Bialy when they were on Flatlands? and 80 or 81st St. Now I want to drive to foster and 103rd just for a Bell Bialy, the best. Mrs. Stahls knishes on brighton beach ave...sigh. I agree MoxieBoy, why must things change?
