Places for dinner in Harrisburg PA.

Hi,
We're going to be in Harrisburg in March and we'll have one night for dinner with a small group.
Any bar and grills with good food, fun place or just a moderately priced steak house? Not sure what everyone will want but I'm sure after a long day they'll want to have some fun and good food.
Thanks for any info:)

Staten Island Italian Bread

isn't there a Royal Crown on Hyland Blvd.? I remember seeing one last time I was on SI.
The RC in Brooklyn has very good bread, imo.

GOOD Jewish Bakery in Brooklyn???

Chiffon's is still around, the moved to Ave. P near McDonald Ave. Sorry don't know the exact address. They used to be on Coney Island Ave. around the corner from Ostrovitsky's.

Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches

I agree, the Family Store is very good, I love their eggplant turnovers they are very good. Great place when I don't feel like cooking dinner, everything is good there.

zeppole on a regular basis

Don't know about Manhatten but if you're ever in Brooklyn around 18th Ave and 75th Street Vitorio's pizza has them all the time. They not bad when hot and crisp.

Where can I get zeppoles?

Vitorio's pizza on 18th and 75th street. They always have them, not bad if eaten nice and hot.

big w's (wingdale/dover plains) is open!

Well we got to Mo Gridders, I liked it very much. I will say this, Big W's got him by a mile with his brisket, for me it's Big W's over Mo's, but I will go back to Mo Gridder's it's so close.

Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches

my sons favorite!

Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches

Have you ever gone to Carlo's grocery on 20th Ave. and 52nd street? I love their roast beef mozz., their veal pizziaola is very very good, used to be able to cut with a fork. They are a little grocery with a kitchen in the back, daddy does the cooking and the family works the store. Of course other cold cut sandwiches, chickencutlet parm. and more.
A really good tuna sandwich, for me 2 places 1. Cropsey Bagel LOVE their tuna. I have to bring my mother a container and 2 bagels every weekend. And their bagels are great by the way, they also carry Bell Bialies. 2. Sorry don't know the name, it's the diner on 13th Ave. and 75th street. My girlfriend loves their tuna sandwich. Sometimes we head there for lunch during work and the waiter that works the floor makes one of the best egg creams I had in a long long time.

big w's (wingdale/dover plains) is open!

I'm on vacation this week. We were going to take a ride to Mo Gridders since it's only 40minutes from us. Reading this makes me want to take the ride and go back to Big W's. He is such a nice person, gave us lots of food and I know he didn't charge us for all of it. It was my birthday and I wanted a T-shirt when we left and he threw me one and wouldn't take a penny. Nice guy, great BBQ, I love it.

Need old fashioned half sheet birthday cake recs -- Park Slope or vicinity

Well, unfortunately I don't know anyone in Park Slope, but Shopright on McDonald Ave. and Ave. I makes birthday cakes. Sheet cakes or layer cakes. Never got one but I've seen a few and they look very nice and not expensive.

Best fried chicken in Brooklyn?

What about Ruthies on Dekalb Ave., I was there tonight. I thought the fried chicken was excellent. It was very juicy, crispy and not greasy at all. The sides were pretty darn good too, candied sweet potatos and mac and cheese, the bf had the seasoned rice which was very tasty. I had the half tea half lemonade, good, I didn't find it overly sweet and the staff was great, and Ruthie is a sweetie.

biscuits in Park Slope area?

If you want to give making your own bisquitsanother try I have a little trick I learned many years ago from a southern cook. Keep a cotton kitchen towel around just for this, or I've even used a new pillow case(kept just for this use). When you finished your bisquit dough, flour your towel, yes, the towel and put your bd on there, then grab the corners on opposite ends of the towel and knead your dough that way. Pulling the towel up and over the dough, go back and forth a few times till dough is smooth. You barely have to touch the dough, all you do is pat it out or a light roll and cut your bisquits. They always come out light and fluffy.

Best Cannoli????

By the way, has anyone tasted the cannoli at Royal Crown, I know they're known for their brick oven bread, but the cannoli are truly excellent. Very crisp shell and you know the filling was made with ricotta, it has a nice not too sweet cheesy kind of flavor. Almost like cheesecake in a cannoli shell.

BBQ lovers, Run-don't walk-to Mo Gridder's

I went up to Mo's, it was worth the trip. We had brisket sandwiches, with the rice and beans, it was very good. We took home 2 racks of ribs and baked beans, and took a pulled pork sandwich home for my son. I can only say I wish I had a pulled pork sandwich, it was absolutely delicious! Moist with a little of Mo's bbq sauce it really was enjoyable. I liked the brisket, but I like Big W's better, sorry Mo, I do. The ribs were very good, everyone enjoyed them. It didn't take that long to drive up there from Bensonhurst, less then an hour and coming back we took the BQE and it took 35-40 minutes, definately will go again.

Best Ice Cream in Brooklyn

We went to JT yesterday, wonderful! I had the vanilla and the chocolate raspberry. I thought it was a little pricey, $6 for 2 scoops and some hazelnuts, am I wrong or just used to bensonhurst prices? But it was creamy, excellent icecream.

BBQ lovers, Run-don't walk-to Mo Gridder's

jwg, thanks for that update. I'm on vacation and we're taking the drive from brooklyn in a few. I just wanted to check and see what folks had to say recently. Glad to hear it's still worth a trip:)

Best Ice Cream in Brooklyn

Amy, I have to agree with you there on the VL strawberry. I went to the Barnes and Nobels a few weeks back and happened to see their truck. I made the boyfriend hang a U'y, had to check it out. The vanilla was gone so I had the strawberry. It wasn't creamy, actually I thought it was a little on the icy side. For $3.50 a cone I thought it should have been better. Vanilla must be really good, it was gone. And I agree with the Villabate folks, I love to take a walk up 18th ave. just to get their gelato, really good.

What is the quintessential food of your town?

we got Bell Bialy's too.

Best Brooklyn Flagel

the bialy store on Coney Island Ave...wowww. We lived in Trump Village and that was THE bialy place to go to. When I got older I'd drive out to Bell Bialy when they were on Flatlands? and 80 or 81st St. Now I want to drive to foster and 103rd just for a Bell Bialy, the best. Mrs. Stahls knishes on brighton beach ave...sigh. I agree MoxieBoy, why must things change?

Best Cannoli????

yup, and they make a nice icecream cake too.

Best Cannoli????

Rimini on BayParkway in Bensonhurst. I've moved out of that area but they used to fill them when you ordered them. They were crispy and the filling was delish!

Where is the best Restaurant Supply Store

if you want to make the trip to brooklyn try Kerekes on 16th ave. and 62nd street. Parking isn't the greatest but they sell everything from baking, chocolate supplies, kitchen gadgets, pans and sooo, sooo much more. They are not open on Saturday's and close early on Friday for shabat. There are a couple of spots in front of the store but it's park at your own risk. I usually just drive around the block or go up a block or two on 16th ave. to park. I get my cake boxes and other baking supplies there, great place.

Bon Chon chicken in NYC?

ok, here's another new one for me, we don't have this in brooklyn. I've never seen a Bon Chon Chicken. Is it all fried? Is it very different from KFC or Popeyes, which honestly I try not to eat very often.

Best Brooklyn Flagel

yup, that looks like and onion board to me to. I never even heard of a flagel.
I'll have to check out D'Netto's. I usually stop off at Cropsey Bagels, never noticed or even thought to look, will now.

Allentown Nabe restaurants-steak and more

Thank you all so much, this is sooo appreciated! I saved this page in my favorites, this way I'll write everything down before I go. We always get stuck eating at Charlie Browns, ugh, enough already with that place, it's not awful, I'm just tired of it. And I do like to find a great neighborhood place, local food, somewhere the locals go for great food. I wish I was on chow all the past years, I'm so glad I found this site:)) Hey, any Schutzhund people out there in chowhound land?

Allentown Nabe restaurants-steak and more

Thanks:) Bellisimo is on the list, we have a friend who likes Italian so that's great, and Wert's is a definite for lunch. I'm sick of the flower shaped frozen hamburgers that are always sold at some of these events. Nothing usually interesting to eat at all. And thank you brookquarry for the steak place. We're staying at the Red Roof in A-Town and I have no idea what's around there. Thank you all again:))

Allentown Nabe restaurants-steak and more

Looked up restaurants in Allentown and saw Wert's Cafe, I actually put that one on my list. Glad to hear good things about it. What about Bellisomo Ristorante for Italian or Nuts about icecream or a diner called Elizabeth's/Paprikash, supposedly hungarian food? And thank you all for your rec's, it's appreciated:))

Allentown Nabe restaurants-steak and more

Thanks, I happen to like jerk chicken very much, sounds like a good one for lunch:)
I also need a good steak or Italian place, we need to take someone for dinner one of the nights we're there. Sorry I didn't post that before.

Allentown Nabe restaurants-steak and more

I'm going to be in Allentown in May for a big dog event. Can anyone tell me some good places to eat, prefer nieghborhood places and not too over the top on price. Whenever we go to these things we wind up in some chain restaurant for dinner and most times just so so food. Can anyone tell me anything about Gregory's? Seems like a no frills homey nabe type place. Thanks for any info:)
