Cooking classes in NOLA?

We went to the New Orleans School of Cooking Easter weekend. It was a lot of fun AND it was an interesting history lesson! Food was good too, well except for the bread pudding. Coconut in bread pudding is just plain wrong!! For 28 bucks and change it's a good deal!

Easter

We will be making our annual trip trip to New Orleans the end of March. When I booked the trip I didn't realize it was Easter weekend. This may be a little early to ask, but do you know of any restaurants that will be open Easter Sunday? French Quarter-CBD area? I know where I want to eat the rest of the days of our stay but Easter is a bit of a quandary.

Dinner in downtown MPLS

Haven't dined in downtown MPLS in years. Way back to my college days when we ate at Cafe DiNapoli and the Nankin. Can't forget Mama Rosa's up on Riverside. So now many years later I have a conference in MPLS. We're looking at moderate to expensive dinners. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lockport LA Food Festival

I wrote sometime ago about renting a car when we are in New Orleans and heading for Grand Isle. I ran across an ad in the Louisiana Cookin' magazine that was advertising the Lockport LA Food Fest which happens to fall on the weekend of our little adventure. I see that they have lots of entertainment and of course food. Anyone have any comments? Worth our time? Thanks!

Trip to Grand Isle

We will be in New Orleans April 14-19. It's our 11th trip and we have never been out of the city limits. We have thoughts of renting a car on Saturday and taking a drive to Grand Isle to do some exploring. Is this a nice drive and are there good places to eat along the route? We expect nothing fancy!!

top dive bars in new orleans

Johnny White's on St. Peter never closes! It was open 24/7 even during and after Katrina. It's always our first stop when we come to town.......nice friendly people!

Edible Complex-you may have the answer re Roosevelt Hotel

We walked by the Roosevelt when we were down 2 weeks ago. Even in the sweltering heat I had to stop and stare in awe. It's beautiful, if only the walls could talk. Still couldn't walk on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. Had to gawk from across the street. It's on our list of places to visit next year.

NOLA Trip (brief)

We vacationed in New Orleans June10-15. With recommendations from this board and Tom Fitzsmorris we enjoyed some wonderful meals. Starting the first night, we went to ACME in the Quarter. I was unimpressed. We had charbroiled oysters and sides of jambalya and red beans & rice. I have a hunch the oysters weren't served straight from the broiler. The cheese was stuck on like glue. OK so first night wasn't great. Thurs. we headed to Coops for lunch. I was so hungry for red beans and rice with sausage it was wonderful. We have eaten at Coops many times and usually aren't disappointed. My husband had the duck and rabbit jambalaya and totally loved it! I can't remember the order of every place we ate but I guess it doesn't matter! Fri. lunch was at Commanders Palace. What a treat! We were seated in the Garden Room. My that place is a maize to travel through! What wonderful waitstaff, so helpful and courteous. I had the shrimp and tasso in pepper jelly. Delicious! Husband had turtle soup and the (I believe) bourbon soaked shrimp. I had the broiled hake and we split a pecan praline dessert. (I didn't take notes so exact names of dishes may be off a bit!) . I love Luke! We weren't hungry, but I had to eat there! We went about 9pm the app. was a hit. We shared the pate. The pickles and bread that came with it was about a meal in itself. We split the hamburger and fries and they brought it out on individual boards. Once again the waitstaff was great. We will definitely return to Luke. Ate dinner Sat. night at Palace Cafe. I had the pork shank. It looked as if it had been cooking all day. It was hard and crunchy on the outside. Our waitress agreed and took it back and brought another, not much better I just didn't like it. They were pleasant and took it off the bill. My husband had the duck and said it was good so the meal wasn't a total wash but I doubt if we will be back. Before we ended our vacation, we had one more trip to Coops. This time for poor boys. We both had the fried shrimp and oyster. What a huge sandwich! Once again delicious. Almost forgot Bon Ton Cafe. Would go back there too! I had the drum with crab and brown butter sauce. I can't remember what my husband had. It was a oyster dish. Wonderful bread too. Didn't mean for this to get so long. Thanks for having us in your wonderful city. Looking forward to another dining vacation next year!

Commanders dress code

We're flying in from Wisconsin so we are trying to limit our baggage. You just can't pack everything you want to take along these days!!

Commanders dress code

I just made a reservation at Commanders Palace for luch on June 12. On their website it stated that jackets were required at dinner. When I got the confirmation for the lunch it stated that jackets were required for the gentleman. I thought at lunch you could get by with slacks and a nice shirt. Can anyone talk from experience?

"13" is definitely a winner. One of our many trips to NO we stayed in a condo right next door. Red beans and rice and potato and poblano pepper quesidillas were wonderful. Weird combo on the quesidilla but it was delicious!! Go to Frenchmen Street!!!!

NOLA party in Wisc. - One more dish (CH, please leave in NOLA board)

Hey fellow Wisconsinite may I invite myself to your party? When we can't be in New Orleans we order sausages from Poches. The shipping is very reasonable. Here's the website: www.pochesmarket.com

June Trip

We are planning our New Orleans vacation to coincide with The Seafood Fest and Creole Tomato Fest. We did this last year and had a great time!

This is our 9th trip to New Orleans. Since we discovered your great city we have been coming back every year. We never stay in the same place twice. We have decided to stay outside the quarter this year. We are staying on Poydras St. Can you recommend restaurants for evening dinners in this area?
