Visiting Cleveland, which restaurants I should not miss ?
My top 3 restaurants in Cleveland are as follows: L'Albatros, Crop Bistro & Lolita. A close 4th would be Momocho.
Visiting Cleveland, which restaurants I should not miss ?
I'm pretty sure Whitmore's shut it's doors. At least the one in Cleveland Hts. and Oakwood Village did.
Visiting Cleveland, which restaurants I should not miss ?
Momocho and Geraci's were also on DDD.
Clevelanders: Where do you buy your meat?
Check out Mr. Brisket on Taylor (Cleveland Hts). The best butcher shop around.
Good espresso in Cleveland...am I missing something?
Stone Oven on Lee Rd. sells City Roast coffee and espresso which is considered among the best in the area.
Best store brand milk
Usually a trusting source from a local dairy farm is the way to go.
Here in Ohio, we have Hertzler's and Snowville Creamery. Both can be found at our local Whole Food's.
Anyone Have the Sur La Table Line of Stainless Pans?
I'm looking to replace a set of my old Cuisinart Anodized pans. The finish is starting to come off and I've noticed black bits in food. (not good).
With that said, I'm looking to go stainless. I already have a stainless stockpot (8 quart) and a few non stick pans for eggs and or fish. I'll most likely be looking to purchase a few individual pans (5 quart saute' pan, 10" skillet and a sauce pan or two).
How are the Sur La Table stainless pans? They seem to be a cheaper solution to the All-Clad and Viking brands. Can anyone vouch for these?
Beer Guide Books - Christmas Present
woops. The Naked Pint was a good read. The authors are very down to earth. They don't take themselves too seriously and keep it funny, yet very informative. I rented it from the library, but plan on buying a hard copy just to have around for reference.
Beer Guide Books - Christmas Present
Just got done with "The Naked Pint" by Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune.

Fave Jerk seasoning/marinade?
Neither.
I prefer my own concoction...
Jamaican Jerk Rub:
6 TBS: Onion Powder
6 TBS: Onion Flakes
2 TBS: Allspice
2 TBS: Ground Black Pepper
2 TBS: Cayenne
2 TBS: Sugar
4-1/2 TSP: Dried Thyme
4-1/2 TSP: Ground Cinnamon
1-1/2: Ground Nutmeg
1/4 TSP: Ground Habanero Chile
I use this often as a pork rub or as a general seasoning.
Chopping Block Premiere [Spoiler Alert]
Oh, one more thing I found lacking as I am quite the HD snob.... Why was this show not in High Definition? A studio such as NBC should surely have the means to do this. Why are they so cheap as to not produce Chopping Block, The Apprentice or others in HD? Get with the times NBC!
Chopping Block Premiere [Spoiler Alert]
Great concept for a show, but overall, I think the show failed miserably.
It's early, but I don't like the cast at all. Even Marco Pierre comes off as a jerk.
Everything seems scripted (from the machine above the stove falling, the glass on the oven door blowing up and the power going off all of a sudden? Come on! Way over the top!
They didn't introduce the characters at all. It's way too rushed. Very little is shown about what goes into the food production or menu choices. Then, once elimination time comes around, the one kid bows out?! WTF?! Why was he cast in the first place if he wasn't serious about the $250,000 prize and opportunity to own a restaurant?!
Ugh... I hated this show!
Type of coffee for a home espresso machine
Can Illy or LavaAzza be found at local grocery stores?
The Food Network
There's not too much you can do about commercials. Sponsorship is a way of income for these shows and allows for such a budget. As for the shows themselves, I was just talking with the wife about how much The Food Network does in bringing a spotlight to a lot of local places.
4 specific shows that showcase the local Mom & Pop restaurants....
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
Throwdown with Bobby Flay
Road Tasted
Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt (formally)
Zeppe's pizza. What type of reputation in ohio ?
Zeppe's is a pretty large chain in NE Ohio. It is nothing special at all. To me, it's just another Domino's, Pizza Hut or Papa John's.
For a more authentic "local" pizza, try Moma Santa's in Little Italy, Geraci's in University Heights or Angelo's in Lakewood.
