Craft Beer in the Triad (GSO - WS)
I have really started getting into craft beer (I just moved a block and a half away from the Best Way), and I am looking for new places to check out. I have been to Sessions on spring garden, but that place can get pretty pricey. Can you guys give me some suggestions of places that have good craft beer selections? Thanks!
Greensboro Monday night
Josephine's on spring garden has been great every time I been.
Southern Season's New Ownership (Chapel Hill)
Do these changes apply to the Weather Vane? I have enjoyed going there in the past, but if the quality is changing in things like the deli, will things change there too?
Home made Soda- Questions
I am looking into making homemade sodas myself after I went to a workshop with Andrew Schloss who wrote a great book called Homemade Soda. I found a tutorial on how to rig a CO2 tank on etsy, I have not tried it yet, but plan on to.

Boiled Peanuts - Greensboro?
I feel your pain! I love boiled peanuts and I have found green peanuts at the farmers market on sandy ridge road, off of I-40. I think it is a pain to make them myself, so if you find a good source let me know.
50 things to eat in NC
There is a Liver Mush festival !?! That is awesome. I thought where I grew up in Johnston County was bad with their Ham and Yam festival. :)
Dinner near Varsity Theater?
Hello! My husband and I will be visiting Minneapolis for the first time in late May. We will be seeing a show at the Varsity Theater on Sunday night and we would like to take our friends, who are graciously letting us crash at their house, out to eat beforehand. What are some some good places that are within walking distance? Our friends are not really foodies, but are open to pretty much anything. Cheap to fancy, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Roanoke, VA?
My husband and I will be going up to Roanoke, VA for a short getaway and we were wondering where we should go to eat.
Are there any good farmers' markets or stores for local food like jams and jellies?
Thanks so much!
Breakfast Biscuits in NC/SC
I am so excited to hear that there is a flying biscuit in Raleigh. I had a couple of meals there when I was in Atlanta and their brunch is fantastic, but I must say I I prefer Bojangles or Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen. I like my biscuits buttery and greasy, so that might be why. :)
What to bring home from NOLA?
Hey thanks for the link. I guess I just wasn't wording my search right when I was looking earlier. Thanks!
What to bring home from NOLA?
Hello All! I am very excited to make my first trip to NOLA next week. It is going to be just a short overnight trip, so I am going to try and pack in as much stuff as possible. I have gotten some great ideas of where to eat from other posts, but my question is: what are some good foodie gifts I can bring home from NOLA?
One thing I like to do when I travel is go to farmers markets and look for local jams and jellies. Where would be a good one to go for that (I will be there Wed lunch time to Thursday dinner)?
What should I be on the look out for that is uniquely New Orleans?
Thanks!
Need High Point NC recs
If you like Thai, Thai Chiang Mai on the corner of North main and Paris Ave is very good. A good sandwich/lunch spot is Grateful Bread also on North Main but near Lexington Ave.
Will your trip be during Furniture market? A lot of places have limited menus during market or you will be waiting forever for a table because the influx of people. I try to avoid going into High Point during market just because it gets so crazy at that time. Just a FYI.
Blackberry Farm?
I saw the episode you are talking about and immediately took out the map to see how far out of the way it will be for our trip. Considering how much they charge you for a room at the farm (we will NOT be spending the night), i figured it would be an arm and a leg to eat there. We are just trying to decide if it would be worth it. Thanks!
Blackberry Farm?
Hello all. My husband and I are planning a week long tour of Tennessee this summer and we were thinking of stopping at Blackberry farm in Walland. Have any of you been there? Is it worth a stop for lunch? Thanks so much!
Vegetarian in Greensboro, NC?
Fro fine dining try Table 16 downtown. My husband and I wend there for my birthday last year and they did not have anything on the menu for him so he asked that waitress what he could get and the chef came out and asked him what kind of stuff he liked and made a special meal just for him. It was totally awesome.
Nice restaurants but not as pricy: Liberty Oak...also downtown has good options. McCouls (downtown)...pub restaurant that I lOVE. It is one of those restaurants where you see families there all the time but it also has a great late night crowd.
Taste of Thai or Saffron Indian right next door (mill street between battleground ave and westover terrace) have great veg options.
Boba house as mentioned before was good last time I was there but that was a while ago.

Table 16

Saffron Indian Restaurant

Greensboro, NC/good pizza, good breakfasts
Brixx pizza is of the thin crust, woodfired variety and I personally love the place.
For breakfast try Tex and Shirley's they have two locations, one at Friendly center and one off of wendover Ave in High Point.
homemade mayo question
Has anyone used their whisk attachment on their mixer to make homemade mayo? I have made it by hand before, and I don’t see why it would not work with my mixer. If you have used your mixer to make mayo, any tips/suggestions?
Good food near the NC Art Museum?
Well, on the way there we will be traveling from Greensboro and we will be leaving the museum going east toward Johnston county after. It will probable be late lunch time when we leave the museum, we were thinking of lunch after the show.
Also, is the Blue Ridge expensive? I have been to the museum a few times but never checked out the prices at the Blue Ridge, I just assumed it was overpriced like every other art museum.
Good food near the NC Art Museum?
Can anyone give me a few sugestions of places to eat near the art museum in Raleigh? I am heading out that way to see the Monet show and would like to get some good grub.
Thanks!
Tofurky-anyone try it?
I have had it before, and I was not really impressed. What I really like is the Quorn 'roast' log. It is not as pretty as the tofurkey with the stuffing inside, but I think it tastes much better.

Oil vs. Extract?
I don't want it to be overpoweringly strong because there will also be peppermint pieces in it too. I am just worried about the extract doing something funky to the white chocolate, like not setting up correctly.
Oil vs. Extract?
I want to make peppermint bark for Xmas gifts this year and the recipe I have calls for peppermint oil. I have peppermint extract can I use that in place of the oil? It will be mixed into white chocolate so does that make the difference?
Thanksgiving Dinner ideas
I am really excited about Thanksgiving this year, I am cooking for the first time and I can make whatever what I want! There is going to be five of us, three vegetarian including me, so I am going to make a more ‘non-traditional’ Thanksgiving. Most of the recipes I got from Martha Stewart’s November issue or from Epicurious.
Appetizers
White bean dip and lentil pate with grilled toasts
Main
Devil’s chicken thigh with braised leeks (I am using Quorn chicken cutlets for the chicken) from Sunday Suppers @ Lucques
Sides
Cauliflower gratin w/ endive
Crusty breadsticks w/ rosemary
Winter fruit chutney
Roasted vegetables w/ balsamic- lemon vinaigrette
Dessert
Steamed persimmon pudding
I am not quite sure what kind of wine I am getting yet, I need to go talk to my wine store people.
Williams-Sonoma "cooking classes"
I went to one at my local WS and really enjoyed the experience. It was ‘taught’ by a local chef whose store I love. You don’t get to do any hands-on stuff but I did get copies of some of my favorite recipes from his store, which is really cool. That, and you get 10% off anything you buy after the class. Of course every location is different, but no one there was pushing the products. I would check on your local board and see what people say that have been to your local store.
Lunch in Asheville
Hello all. I am heading out to Asheville at the end of the month and I am looking for a good lunch place near downtown. I am going to be by myself so I would like place that is pretty casual. Looking through the boards, I think I might try out Salsa’s. I was also thinking about the Bier Garden, have anyone been there? Thanks!
Tartine cookbook - I know what I'm baking this weekend - unfortunately not morning buns
I have made the shortbread cookies and they are wonderful. They are very simple, the only pain is to remember to get the butter out to warm up!
Savory Recipe for Sweet Potato
Blueprint magazine had a good idea for roasted sweet potatoes. Dress then up with some sprouts, cilantro, and basil then give it a good dose of sweet chili pepper sauce. I had it last night and it was really good, and it wins point for being really simple.
