We ended up ordering from Jin Yuan (Creedmoor & Millbrook) the other night and it wasn't bad. The pork wasn't anywhere near pink or sweet enough, but the rice was nice and brown and it had lots of sweet onions and eggs in it, so it might serve as a fill in. Can't vouch for any of the other food, as all we wanted was rice.
Hi Suzy Q,
I don't know how else to describe it - when I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, we would order from 5 or 6 different Chinese restaurants and get pretty much the same style - I didn't know there was a certain name for it until I moved away. I'm told that it was New York Style Chinese - I'm guessing as opposed to traditional Chinese or whatever style it is that they serve here. It just seems like there's a problem finding what I'm looking for here in the South. I lived in Western NC and couldn't find it there either. I will try Orient Garden next time I'm in Cary and see if maybe they're the missing link. Thanks!
I'm a long time lurker here and have finally decided that I can't stand it anymore and just have to ask...
Does anyone know if there are any truly New York style Chinese Restaurants here in the Raleigh area? I'm not talking about traditional Chinese (I know where to go for that), but rather the deep brown colored fried rice with egg and bright pink bbq pork in it with maybe peas and bean sprouts. Or Teriyaki beef on a stick? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Every place we've tried so far that has claimed to be "NY style" has just failed miserably. The fried rice looks like saffron rice, it's so yellow - what is going on??? I'm from south Florida originally (so might as well be NY), and am dying for "real" Chinese take out!
Thanks in advance!
