What to Do with Plain Yogurt

I think my "right now" favorite condiment is whole milk yogurt, fresh garlic, cayenne pepper, cilantro and kosher salt. I love this on basmati rice (made with salt and butter) with mixed greens on top. I also love to dip fresh raw veggies in this--especially broccoli from my garden, red pepper and cucumber...oh yummy!

Guacamole

The best guacamole I've had was made by a friend from Columbia, South America. It was quite similar to the recipe above, however instead of green onions my friend used very thinly sliced yellow or white onion -- and there was more onion, chile and tomato than avacado -- the avacado was holding it all together like a salad...and she called it "guacamole salad". She may have also put hard boiled egg in as well...it was unusual and substantial in itself, not to mention delicious!

Rich Simple Syrup

We made our own simple syrup one night and we used organic cane sugar instead of refined sugar and the result was marvelous! I would highly recommend this in place of refined sugar for both mojitos and margaritas --- the subtle hint of molasses in the organic cane sugar adds a unique depth to a normally flat sweet of refined sugar simple syrup.

Is there a frozen pizza worth eating? [Moved from Pacific Northwest]

Can't you go to a local parlor, but a fresh piece of dough and make your own? Othewise, I concur that California Pizza Kitchen is edible -- you can jazz it up with fresh mozz, etc...

"Old" Bailey's Irish Cream - moved from General Chowhounding board

I've had "bad" Bailey's Irish Cream before -- it will curdle... however, I've never refrigerated it at home, or back in the day when I was a bartender. That doesn't mean it won't spoil, but...hmmm... to answer your question on whether or not anyone would drink it...you know, I would drink or at least try, the "Old Bailey's"... see if you can tell if it's spoiled -- usually, when things aren't opened, oxygen hasn't had the opportunity to get into it and change the chemistry of things...
My veterinarian and my doctor have both told me (and I learned in college too) that most medicines have at least six months past their expiration date...so, I'm thinking, Bailey's -- you could be safe. You'll know in under 10 seconds if you're not.
Good luck!

How Long Can Butter Be Kept Out Before Going Rancid?

I've left butter out on the counter in the dish for weeks and I've never had a problem with it-- sounds disgusting, but it really wasn't.

Are the Burnt Bits of Veggies Carcinogenic?

No one seems to mention benzopyrenes which are created when grilling just about anything, vegetable or animal in nature. They are carcinogenic, however, I'll take my chances and enjoy grilling.

10 Ways to Save at the Grocery Store

After having creme fraiche and sour cream, why would I have sour cream when I could have creme fraiche -- some things are just recession proof, like standards. However, I concur re: spices -- and some other things like champagne...so my snobby comment is not to put down the author so much as it is to affirm that sometimes we'd rather do without than substitute a poor second.

Inca Trail

I'd rather have a pina-colada mojito.
