The best Thai food in DC?
If you're flexible on Capitol Hill location, you should check out Asia Nine on E St! While they have a sushi bar and a good deal of fusion/pan-Asian dishes, the classic Thai dishes are very well executed; it's the same classic food they put out at Rice & Spice in Alexandria, where they are clearly the go-to for that area.
Also, for future reference, Sabai Sabai Simply Thai is worth the trip up 270 to Germantown (just behind the Euro Motorcars/Benz dealer on 118). I used to consider Ruan Thai in Wheaton my go to, especially because I live 5 mins from there, but these days I will skip Ruan in favor of Mandalay in Silver Spring (Burmese) and get my Thai fix at Sabai Sabai.

Favorite restaurants in Wheaton
if you're up for vietnamese, pho hiep hoa's pho is unstoppable. and extremely addictive. also hollywood east is getting closer to re-opening in their new location at the mall, trying to push for pre-xmas open as of 2 days ago, i've missed their dim sum. partial to super chicken for peruvian charcoal rotisserie chicken.
Taiwanese restaurants
joe's noodle house, rockville. i've definitely missed on some dishes i've ordered there but most of what i've had there was great
Good Eats along 270 Corridor
french quarter in germantown is gone, but the thai restaurant that has taken over and remodeled, sabai sabai simply thai, is great. their green curry is worth the drive. the owners are the former owners of benjarong thai in rockville. cava, in a buried shopping center near shady grove rd & rt 28, is one of my favorites. pho & grill in montgomery village plaza across from lakeforest mall has a minced pork roll as an appetizer that is addictive. la canela in rockville town sq is a hidden gem, as is their more hole in the wall location, la flor de la canela on 355 in gaithersburg.
Potenza - authentic Italian in DC?
had a great experience at potenza. the rigatoni/sunday gravy and the rabbit/truffle tortellini mentioned in dcist's review happen to be the 2 main courses we ordered, they are both excellent and we'd order them again. didn't go for the seafood or meat entrees, definitely ate too much bread and salumi, won't make that mistake next time. the pastas, except the orecchiette, are all house-made. starters we ordered were octupus and veal carpaccio, both ok, won't order again. definitely get the semi-freddo for dessert, panna cotta wasn't bad but i wouldn't order it again. grape gelato has intense flavor. did a great job creating a well-balanced vibe. nice thought to add a few raised bar seats looking into the kitchen for solo diners. hanging out at the bar with a beer and salumi before being seated is definitely a good call. looking forward to going back.
New food in Montgomery Village
nope, nam's of wheaton, nam's of bethesda, etc. pho nam on shady grove is going to lose a lot of business to pho & grill unfortunately
New food in Montgomery Village
mayhan kabob's lamb chops are the best dish i've had there, well-seasoned and ahmad cooks them to the perfect temperature. pho & grill is a new concept from the family that owned and operated the various nam's restaurants throughout the area years ago. the minced pork roll is an absolute necessity every visit. the grilled meats at other vietnamese restaurants tend to be chewy and dry; pho & grill's are very tender and moist. the pho broth, while i prefer a darker broth, has a very nice texture that coats the back of your throat. onion and scallion are more in the forefront in their broth compared to others i usually eat. i'll be there at least once a week. it's way better than the new place that opened in germantown next to lotte. they just need culantro on the plate of garnishes! crisp & juicy has been open since this past thursday and has had a nonstop flow of customers; the chicken, as advertised, is definitely crispy and juicy and the spicy sauce, as simple as it is, is addictive.
