Great patisserie in La Jolla?

We had a selection of the MC mini tarts for Thanksgiving (which ones escapes me at the moment) and they were all delicious.

Wood for BBQ Smoker in SD

BBQs Galore is where I got our cherry, pecan, apple and hickory chunks for my Cookshack. I'm pretty sure they'll have oak and mesquite and maybe others, too.

Edit: Oh -- necropost!

Just saw them at Morena Costco tonight in the produce area

I think I'd trade the duck heads to Fakey for his fried spiders.

How does one eat a duck head? Is it even worth the trouble, or like a chicken foot with even less material to work with?

Got stuck in traffic and gave up. Maybe next week.

Buying tea

I don't know what Infusions was like, but we've gotten good tea from here:
https://www.teagallerie.com/

Hit and miss on being able to actually try a tea first, though (they do have tasting events, but otherwise limited to what they are brewing at the moment).

Dining Mentors

I was so bummed we didn't get to try the tempura tarantulas.

That was outside the stadium during Comic Con. We were going to try one of each. My wife and I each got the quesadillas, my son the teri 'hopper and my daughter went straight for the choco 'hopper.

Dining Mentors

"Yes, of course I can bumble through it- I'd done it before. I've avoided the deep-fried tarantula and baked stuffed goat bowels."

Avoid?? My kids seek that stuff out! ;-)

Zarco Cocina de Baja

Not yet. It's on our to-go list, though.

San Diego New Restaurants: 2014

I say this as someone with a strong sweet tooth:

I would much rather have the turkey leg wrapped in a pound of bacon than a deep-fried Krispy Kreme Burger.

Been there once, so far. Would eat again. Nothing fancy, but solid and not expensive. We almost went back last night, but got sidetracked.

Between QT Pot and Mama Testa, we're going to be visiting that lot on a fairly regular basis, I think.

If 30 minutes walking is no problem, you can walk from the CC to Juniper & Ivy. If you get winded or too hungry on the way, you will pass Puesto and Lion's Share at the early end of your walk.

If you miss the turn from Harbor onto Kettner, you'll eventually end up at Top of the Market/Fish Market.

I think of India St. as being a slightly nicer walk than Kettner, but staying on Kettner might save you a minute or two walking time. YMMV.

So I see:

Well, it's still a heckova lot closer than Hillcrest, and we can take the back street Capricorn route if MM Blvd is too nasty.

I look forward to welcoming Mama Testa to the 'hood.

I consider it to be Scripps Ranch, too, but you'd be surprised how often I'd run across some restaurant review talking about a great-sounding place I hadn't seen, and then noting it was Eot15 in the strip mall of doom or across the street in the Trader Joe's area.

I live in the Sorrento Mesa area and haunt the streets of the dead at night. Wich Addiction opened for evenings this summer, I read about it on their site, planned my attack (was getting food for the whole family), and when I got there it was closed. Seems they never bothered to tell anyone in Pacific Ridge or other western enclaves that they were open for dinner, and stopped doing it a day before I went.

You know that feeling when you know exactly what you're going to eat, having been thinking about it all day, your blood sugar is dropping and the restaurant is closed? And you're so hungry you can't even figure out what Plan B is? Yeah, I was grumpy.

I wonder where in Mira Mesa, hopefully west or central: east of the 15 seems to be a serious damper on customer traffic.

If it's not east, it's 20 minutes closer to my house than the current spot, and we probably won't have to circle the block(s) a bunch of times to find a spot within walking distance, like in Hillcrest.

Fun Waterfront Restaurants in La Jolla / Near Torrey Pines

Marine Room is about as beach-front La Jolla as you can get. Especially if you're lucky enough to go during high tide or storm chop.

One week in November with little kids - where should we eat?

I have two kids (8 & 10) who will (and have) pick(ed) grilled octopus over a lot of the entrees kids are "supposed" to like.

They also like Tender Greens and Pizza Port pizza. ;-)

I don't have a problem with Pizza Port pizza. I also do not care to eat Lego bricks. YMMV.

Edit: OP, if you are in the East Village/Gaslamp area and want to get pizza for you and the kids and a few decent beer choices for you, Basic is a viable choice. Their beer selection's not in the same league as Pizza Port, though.

On the go near the airport

Tender Greens at Liberty Station, get a sandwich (and/or savory steak pie) to go.

Alternately, every *bertos drive-thru within 4 miles of the airport and get your choice of burrito.

Grass-fed Beef Brisket in San Diego

I got a small grassfed brisket a few months ago from Homegrown in La Jolla and smoked it. Turned out pretty good in spite its being undersized for the smoking process.

Compendium of Dishes: Super Cocina (SD)

They gave us some of the pastel de elote to go (we closed the place out and I guess the kids' working knowledge of Spanish charmed them) when we went there in July. Not bad at all.

FWIW, my daughter thought their beans were the best she'd ever had. She was actually taking more off of the rest of our plates. It was the first time we'd been, and I guess we need to go back the next time we're close to the area.

San Diego's Local-Mussel Dishes

The mussels I had at Bull Taco a few years ago were excellent.

Full disclosure: The facts that we were camping there and watching the sunset while eating probably didn't hurt.
