Where do you like for breakfast in North County?

Is Snooze both good and accessible on weekends for breakfast? Haven't been yet.

SuperNatural Sandwiches To Open Its First Brick & Motar Site

An added bonus of getting the sandwiches cut is they use long wood toothpicks to hold the halves together. The toothpicks make nice stabbing skewers to pick up any morsels that might fall back into the paper tray.*

Maybe it's because we had the kids with us both times, but they cut the sandwiches without us asking and we had no problems. But I can see how a whole one of those sandwiches could suddenly lose all structural integrity. There's a reason (besides pigeons) that they don't make bridge spans out of lightly toasted, buttered brioche.

*Protip: put the fallen morsels onto a shrimp chip.

Have them cut your sandwich in half before they give it to you.
If my kids can eat their half sandwiches there without them falling apart, I'm sure you can. ;-)

Headquarters is usually abbreviated as "HQ" and San Diego already has a few OPH'es.

On behalf of pancake addicts, I beseech you to call it OPHQ. ;-)

Juniper and Ivy / First visit impressions

Someone needs to do a bayou burger with duck, gator, frog and nutria (boudin and a duck egg on top).

Sending vegetarian meal to sick relatives?

Native Foods in Encinitas is pretty good (and vegan, but with a lot of meat substitutes). I don't know if any service delivers their food, though.

SD Places 8 Restos on Top 100 List

I'm happy Alforon made it. It's a tiny, tasty treasure.

We still haven't been to Oscar's. I must do something about that.

I can also go to Vegas to eat at Viva las Arepas, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to have a VLA to visit in San Diego that doesn't require I get a hotel room as part of the bill. ;-)

Help me out with my Specialty Produce Farmer's Market Box

This week I just went with the veggies and juice box, the seafood, venissimo cheese, the chuao chocolate (which sounds really good right now), the hot links, the salami and some eggs.

Haven't tried the rosemary/garlic salami or hot links before.

Very good. IIRC it had rabbit on that night. I don't think my daughter knows yet that it was rabbit - I think she said "the chicken is really good."

It was good. It's been a few months, and I don't remember everything about the meal at the moment (had paella, shrimp, octopus, liquid olives, ham and pork about 9 ways, solid desserts), but we all enjoyed it.
A bonus was dining on a fully-functional but artistically altered foosball table, which made the dinner for the 4 of us more fun than I was expecting.

It was a great night, and everything was well prepared and tasty, but still pricey and "special-occasiony."
Given a choice between dinner at Jaleo once or Viva las Arepas 15 times, I might go for the arepas. ;-)

You just reminded me to sign up for next week. Time to take a look at what's on offer, I've been remiss.

Well, the announcement got the kids interested.
They got their first taste of molecular gastronomy at Jaleo last November, and now they want more.

Those are just the most famous ones people write about. But there are plenty of others: Alesmith's Anvil, X, Nut Brown and Little Devil are all under 6%. My Bloody Valentine is 6.66% which seems appropriate.

Their [Nautical] Nut Brown is my desert island beer -- if I could only drink one kind.
It works as well as a post-ride refresher as it does with just about any meal (breakfast through dessert).
And if anyone hasn't tried their vietnamese coffee Speedway, wowsers.

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants: Thread Three- The Saga Continues.

Perhaps you're not familiar with Ballast Point's San Salvador Saison, which I was lucky enough to catch at The Linkery on more than one occasion.
http://www.sandiegomagazine.com/Blogs...

Or, for that matter, any number of Stone offerings that use Stone Farms-sourced ingredients (dandelion, lavender, ginger, calendula, jasmine, honey, etc -- ingredients that predate the use of hops by centuries in many instances).

What would happen to your "Napa=organic/SD craftbeer=hipsterfetishmarketing" fetish-finding fetish if every brewery in San Diego was a local-honey-only meadery instead, and every food-serving meadpub was otherwise the same?

I mean if SD's food needs to be better, the food needs to be better. But that's not the beer's fault.

Visiting San Diego what should I NOT miss?

Tito's or Tita's? If not, add Tita's to the mix, too.

Nothing like Tita's for a massive helping of filipino BBQ (chicken or pork), some adobo, pancit, some banana fritters, and impatient flop-sweat-inducing glares from the servers behind the counter.

But if you go, park on the same (north) side of the street as the restaurant if you can (busy street, not a good crosswalk).

It's all outdoors (including the wait in line) so bring clothing appropriate for hanging out outside.

Go hungry, order lots.
