I'm Going Deaf Eating Out in LA

I ate an early dinner at Cole's for DTLA Art Walk to go to a specific show, and as I was leaving I passed a restaurant with a sound system so cranked up that the ground out front was almost shaking.

There was a front patio with tables, and I noticed one with 6 guys all on their phones. When one of the guys came out on the sidewalk to have a cigarette, I asked him how they could hear each other.

"We can't, just text each other".

Favorite websites/forums to find restaurant recommendations in LV (other than Yelp)?

Yelp's total star count is usually fairly accurate for me- especially if you take the time to figure out who is a thoughtful reviewer. After all, unhockey posts here and on Yelp.

Lots of cross-pollination though. It's amazing how small Las Vegas is, at least with those that write about food, pro or not.

Leave Guy Fieri alone: Why he has nothing to do with the Food Network’s decline

My DVR is loaded with more instructional cooking shows than I can keep up with.

Doesn't matter to me when they are aired. The only shows I watch live are sports and news.

This started in LA with Republique last year, as far as I can tell.

If they say the charge was separated out because of their lease, I have no reason to believe they are lying.

As for the others, many things are impossible to authenticate, not just leases.

Actually, it's pretty clear and not confusing that you can decline to pay the 3% charge.

Do you think 2 of your meals were comped because you were dining with John Curtas?

Well, that remains to be seen at this point- especially if more restaurants adopt this policy with no loss of business.

Not quite sure why you are posting to me, as I was pointing out something that latindancer claims she didn't say.

As for the exclamation points and "your", I don't own a restaurant.

Actually, you did say would give the server a choice between 22% and 25%. I was looking forward to future posts on how those transactions went down.

You are missing at least one thing. Some restaurants pay rent based on gross receipts, so there is a reason to have the surcharge listed as opposed to just raising the prices 5%.

I'm quite flexible- the charge, $6 on a $200 dinner doesn't bother me in the least.

Good luck with that, since that was NOT what you had previously said.

If this practice continues, you may be finding a smaller pool of choices.

Including SF.

So you seriously are going from just handing over your card at the end of a meal to asking each time which choice the server prefers?

That doesn't sound like a very enjoyable way to end a meal to me.

Chipotle Workers Quit, Shut Down Store, Because That Job Sucks

Please don't put words in my mouth. All I asked was what working conditions in other countries have to do with the US.

Retro/Old School Italian-planning a "Rat Pack" dinner

+1 for Piero's. I just did a quick review last summer, but I have been 9 or 10 times since then and the atmosphere makes up for the just OK food- although they do some things very well.

On Friday and Saturday nights, Pia Zadora plays in the lounge with Sinatra's old pianist Vinnie and people always stop by to sing or perform with her- everyone from a "Dean Martin" to big-name stars.

You can eat in the lounge as well- so dinner and a show ends up being very reasonable, no cover.

Pizza Dough?

Vons/Pavilions has it as well, and I liked it much better than TJ's. It's $2 for enough to make a large pizza.

I agree. To me, it is so wonderful to take an elevator down to the lobby of my hotel and have a choice of some of the best places in the US.

Nice post. Glad you enjoyed In N Out and I agree about the Aria buffet.

I was just at the buffet for the first time in June (credit as well) and it did nothing for me either.

I understand the not being a fan of steakhouses.

Also, I go to LV every month or so for fun- besides going for work. Some people just don't like the Vegas experience and ambiance in general, no matter how great the food is.

When you listed all of the places you weren't happy with, I wondered if maybe that was the case.

That's what I figured, but still curious about what steakhouses (non LV) that you considered superior to those that you listed.

Just wondering what steakhouses you weren't disappointed at in comparison and what that has to do with a French restaurant?

They are trying to get all of the drawings to the owners or family members before 10/5 I believe.

If your friend has living family, they should contact the restaurant.

Minimum Wage Impact on Restaurant (especially FF) Prices

Well, they are privately owned, not franchises.

I do know they have very low turnover compared to other places.

I have no idea, but In N Out manages to pay their employees a starting wage of $10.50 and even part-timers receive benefits.
