Trip Report: Kabuto, Bazaar Meats, Wicked Spoon

I think sometimes John Curtas (Eating LV) can't help but be swayed by the fact he is eating for free- as he did twice at Bazaar.

Should I be offended over a frozen pie?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but being invited by BFs parents to drive a long way for dessert on Thanksgiving and you are supposed to be gracious?

Stay home.

Crab . Your favorite ways to prepare ?

LOL, that's the recipe I use as well, just omit the flour and oil and cook on a grill pan.

You Can Finally Watch 'Julie & Julia' Without Those Annoying Amy Adams Scenes

Let me know when they cut out the scene of Meryl in front of the Easy Bake oven.

Joel Robuchon reservation at 9:15p

Just like what you did, although that coffee post was pretty impressive:)

I know most of my friends (and me as well) tend to drink more in LV, mainly because no transportation worries like here in SoCal. It's a real treat to be able to do that.

Please continue to post about wines here.

I don't think the subject is given as much attention on this board as it should.

Who Makes Mac & Cheese without Bechamel/Mornay?

I'll ask my mom- she's pretty good about remembering recipes and where they came from.

Who Makes Mac & Cheese without Bechamel/Mornay?

Same with me (for the ages) and my grandmother was from San Francisco.

Who Makes Mac & Cheese without Bechamel/Mornay?

There is another old thread on this (which I can't find)- I make mine the same way and prefer it to the traditional. In fact, just made a casserole this week.

Many different theories as to where this originated, but someone said maybe a 40-50s cookbook or magazine I believe. All I know is that was the way my grandmother made it and she was of German heritage.

No ketchup.

Are Meyer lemons in season now?

My mom and I both have Meyer lemon trees and they started producing in the last few weeks, with lots to come- this is in Newport-Laguna BTW.

Koi ponds?

Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar - New at Red Rock, and for now perhaps the most interesting dining in Summerlin

I'll bet your dinner wasn't comped though.

Most people need to be gamblers or possibly a well-known blogger for that to happen with the kind of frequency seen on this board.

Smallest entree ever!

OP is a long-time poster. Why would you assume he is lying?

Very good- lots of seafood. I guess JAB and I aren't vying for the same reservations:)

Why not try for a double and see if they can also make a good baked potato?

Is it depressing to dine out on Thanksgiving?

I've done it before and plan on it this year as well.

For starters, even at a nice restaurant it's cheaper- at least the way I like to cook.

For the leftovers, I roast a turkey breast and make stuffing and a few other things over the long weekend.

Finding Your Roots' chefs episode

Great episode. I can't believe they were able to trace Ming's family back to the 800s?

Roll 'N Rye 'n Culver City Closing?

No sh*t- was just there last Thursday for lunch out of desperation (event at St. John's), and even as a deli-deprived OCer, this place was on par with Izzy's for the worst in recent memory.

Greasy soup, stale pickles, frozen latkes and barely passable brisket sandwich.

Even the iced tea was funky. Who screws that up?

Imported vs Domestic Pasta

That's great! Now you can work through various brands to see what you like.

I posted on another, older thread that I have a "pasta pantry" loaded with all of my favorite brands/types.

Fresh versus dry is another story. It depends on the dish- some preps are better suited to dry.

Vegas with boring old farts...

I've been told before that it was "hotel" policy not to allow BYOB- which gets the restaurant off the hook for being the inflexible one.

I go so often that I partially choose based on the wine list, but if I was an infrequent visitor who wanted to drink some special bottle(s)- I would make the effort to ensure that happened.

Vegas with boring old farts...

Prices are MOR for Vegas steakhouses- if someone doesn't care for the place, that's another story.

Agree of course, but as you said previously, corkage can be expensive and I've found the policy can change at the same spot depending on who is on duty.
