Veranda at Dinner - a mixed experience, even at half off.

Exactly, as well as contributing reviews to the site.

Veranda at Dinner - a mixed experience, even at half off.

Re: Giada, it wasn't one critique- multiple times, even a mention of her in this review. That's bordering on scary.

There are too many examples of posts to list, so let's just say I prefer reading here from people who have 1) eaten at a restaurant and 2) have paid for their meal 3) realize their opinion is not fact.

Happy Holidays!

It's the dismissive attitude (even when you haven't tried a restaurant), not the blog.

You offer much information, but many times it is imparted in such a way that comes off as almost rude.

To be honest, I have most likely been eating in Las Vegas since before you were born- so I don't need to be talked to like a 5 year old.

And I'm talking about general replies, not those just towards me personally.

What do you not order in restaurants...

Things that are crazy-easy like mac and cheese, meatloaf, deviled eggs.

I do order fried chicken out, only because the recipe I like calls for 2 days of prep and I hate cleaning up the mess afterwards.

Edited to add, I really envy my friends that did a pizza oven and deep fryer in their outdoor kitchen.

The Dreaded Cheese Log - The Fruit Cake of Cheese!

Every once in awhile, I get a craving for the Kaukauna cheese balls- usually with Ritz crackers.

Wouldn't serve at a party. Don't re-gift, but I certainly wouldn't if it was something I thought was crap.

My family situation/pink pork

Yep, that's why moms were in the kitchen cooking that turkey at 6 a.m.!

My family situation/pink pork

I see your point, but it is her kitchen. You did offer a great solution with the 2 and 2.

If I'm doing a BBQ, I ask for guest's preferences. If someone wants a hockey puck burger or well done steak- fine with me, I don't have to eat it.

Servers who pick up dishes but not flatware between courses: was I rude to bring this up?

How sad.

Best Salt and Pepper Grinders

I like the Peugeot line, don't know if it's the best- but 3 have been serving me well for over 10 years.

Being "put to work" at a Christmas Party

I think the "Roz" stories jumped the shark.

Champagne Report, 2014

ns1, I find that Von's has the best prices (usually) for their Champagne/Sparkling of any of the chain groceries, and of course even better if you buy 6.

Interesting that Total Wine and Bevmo has prices higher than Ralph's for some you listed. I've found the same, so I don't go there much unless looking for something that I can't find at Von's.

Per person Thanksgiving cost

It's Wolfgang Puck's on the FN site (can't figure out how to do link with my phone), but 24 oz of Maple syrup and gives the turkey the most beautiful color.

I'm going to The Apple Pan tonight.

Damn spell check, but Norm's is not half the price for their burger-haven't heard of the other 2 spots.

In N Out Double combo is $6.60, burger alone is under $4.

I understand feeling a place isn't worth it to someone, but math is off and maybe even the decade.

Where would you go nearby to get a buyer for half the price?

Au gratin potatoes again - what cheese?

+1. It's a simple and delicious dish. No need to pre-cook potatoes.

Per person Thanksgiving cost

+1. Heck, the turkey brine recipe I use is almost $50. We cook what my family and I enjoy.

According to the American Farm Bureau, Thanksgiving for 10 is $49.41. I always laugh each year when I read their estimate.

How can we say no to a dinner invitation? We don't want to appear ungracious even though we don't really like the boyfriend!

The guy sounds like a boor and a loser to me- I feel for you Amarie.

Maybe a quick drink on the way to another function?

L.A. Dish of the Month, December 2014 -- TAMALES

Price please Porthos. Also, have you tried any of the places on 19th like El Toro Bravo in the past? Can't remember the name of the spot I used to go to. My favorite closed, so last year I missed out for the Holidays.

I like ETC, but it is a little out of the way and their parking is nuts.

Thanks!

Where do you normally eat that $37 is the most expensive meal you ever purchased? Including tax and tip on a holiday, that sounds reasonable.

Trip Report: Kabuto, Bazaar Meats, Wicked Spoon

It's really too bad that LV does not have a (decent) food critic. At least when the EatingLV books were published, there were 3 different opinions.

Honestly, I'd rather read here from people who actually are paying for their meals.

I think sometimes John Curtas (Eating LV) can't help but be swayed by the fact he is eating for free- as he did twice at Bazaar.

Should I be offended over a frozen pie?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but being invited by BFs parents to drive a long way for dessert on Thanksgiving and you are supposed to be gracious?

Stay home.

Crab . Your favorite ways to prepare ?

LOL, that's the recipe I use as well, just omit the flour and oil and cook on a grill pan.
