Professional Culinary Programs

Thanks much. I'm not looking for me (I actually work in restaurants and teach cooking already). I'm just trying to explore what exists out there. Thanks for the input!

Professional Culinary Programs

Does anyone know of non-Community College based professional culinary programs in the Oakland/Berkeley area? I'm thinking more of a 6-12 month intensive program, not a 2 year Assoc. program

Thanks!

Private Cocktail Party in Seattle?

I think we might be around 50-60 so it limits us, I know. Great suggestions so far-thank you!

Private Cocktail Party in Seattle?

I'm in San Francisco and trying to plan a 40th bday party for someone in Seattle. We're looking for a restaurant that will do heavy appetizers and cocktails for a private party. I lived in Seattle for years and am up there regularly to eat and see family but, can't think of a place with great food, good drinks and the room to have a big group in a private or semi-private space. Any ideas?

I was thinking: buying out Cactus in Mad Park, a room at Wild Ginger, the deck at Pink Door (but late November???)....help!

Place to dine w/two food saavy 5 yr olds

We're coming to Manhattan in a week with another couple and both of our 5 year olds. One of us is a cooking teacher and the other owns a bay area restaurant so, our kids eat well and are used to eating out. I'm looking for a few suggestions for kid friendly places, preferably downtown (village, tribeca, l.e.s., etc,) where we will be happy too...we have only a few nights out and while two of them are 'grown ups only', two will be with the kids and we want to eat well. We've done Lupa a lot and may end up there but, we're open to new ideas.

Thanks!

Suggestions for a San Francisco Visitor

Thanks to all! We ended up having lunch Saturday at The Goddess and the Grocer and our sandwiches were incredible. Sunday we were taking to Wishbone for lunch-everything was BIG but very, very tasty (heavenly, light-as-air biscuits!). Our best dinner was Avec-those chorizo stuffed dates were incredible, as was the skate wing. We at at Chalkboard as well and were less than impressed with the service and the food.

Suggestions for a San Francisco Visitor

I am a cooking teacher from San Francisco visiting Chicago this wknd. We've got lots of time to eat and are staying at the W/Lakeshore. We're hoping to spend time in Bucktown/Wicker Park on Saturday and not sure what the rest of the stay will bring yet. Our dinners are already planned, but the rest of the days we're open to suggestions.

Any recommendations for tasty lunch places-especially those little spots that aren't laden with tourists, would be great (esp. in Bucktown/Wicker Park) as well as a good coffee or breakfast spot near our hotel, would be greatly appreciated. Happy to return the favor if you make it out to San Francisco.

Thanks!

Cooking school in SF?

Definitely check out Tante Marie's (www.tantemarie.com). They are really the only school in the city of SF that has hands-on cooking classes. IMO, you can't learn real skills by watching someone else do the cooking. It's fun and entertaining but, to really 'get it' you need to do it in class and this is what happens at the majority of the classes there...

Have heard mixed things about Kitchen on Fire but I do want to check it out. Also curious about the new Cheese School on Pacific/Polk-anyone been?

Take Out Fried Chicken on (or near by) Clement

I am looking to bring a LOT of fried chicken to a picnic in a few weeks. Someone suggested Kwong Shing on Clement but I've heard it has closed (haven't confirmed that though!). Any other good suggestions?
