Quick question, grocery stores
It's not walking distance, but you're not too far from the new Rouses Market in the CBD near the superdome. There's also a Super Walmart in the area.
Dragos in New Orleans
I think everyone likes to think the original location is better, but to me and plenty other who have been to both places, they are the same. Save yourself the cab fare.
Asian- or Vietnamese-Cajun Crawfish?
That would be Manhattan Seafood on Manhattan Blvd. Also, check out Berhman Cajun Seafood.
Best French Bread
Dong Phuong Bakery for their French bread. The same one that is used for their Banh Mi. It's very cheap and also on the way to Florida.

Off-season crawfish
You can always eat crawfish dishes like crawfish etoufee or fried crawfish. Those are available all year round.
dan dan noodles
Have you tried China Rose in Metairie? They have a "Chinese menu" that has authentic chinese food. You just have to ask for it. They will also prepare stuff that's not on the menu if they can.

Metairie or is it worth the trip downtown?
Drago's isn't open on Sundays. There's an Acme Oyster House in Metairie and they're open on Sundays.
Crawfish
I'm pretty sure the crawfish that restaurants use in etouffee and other dishes are frozen crawfish and not freshly boiled crawfish. That's why they have it all year round.
Crawfish
If you're looking for boiled crawfish, then no. But if you're looking for crawfish dishes like crawfish etoufee, fried crawfish, etc. then yes. Boiled crawfish season ends around July.

need boudin recommendations
Rouses Supermarket located all around town has good boudin in their meat section. They make it themself and are inexpensive. You just heat it up in the microwave for about 45-60 seconds and they're good to go.
Best Banh Mi?
Yea, Hong Kong market sandwiches aren't good. They use their own bread instead of Dong Phuong's bread.
Best Banh Mi?
Banh Mi Sao Mai down the street from Dong Phuong.

feeling the effect of the spill
Right on. West of the Mississippi River is 80% of Louisiana's seafood. So only 20% is affected. The best side and majority hasn't been affected at all.
Treme
Treme and most of the places shown on the show is the hood of n.o. Eat at your own risk.

Blood pudding / Pho Nola
Pho Nola is decent, but their portions are small and the price is ridiculous for vietnamese food. A bowl of pho is $7-8 there when the norm is suppose to be $5-$6.
