LA Mill Coffee Opening On Silver Lake Blvd.?!

I got there around 10am today and the doors were open to the public. YEAH! It pays to be late to work.

I got a cappuccino, bacon & onion brioche and a canelé. The cappuccino was good but the brioche was fantastic.

This is such a welcome addition to the hood. I can't wait to go there and have a meal.

LA Mill Coffee Opening On Silver Lake Blvd.?!

You rule! Just for that I will buy you some coffee.

I can guarantee that I WON'T be there at 6am.

Is this an official opening or a soft opening?

LA Mill Coffee Opening On Silver Lake Blvd.?!

I drive by LA Mill every day on my way to work. As soon as I see the brown paper come down, I am going in. And, I'll be sure to post on Chowhound.

I hope Intelligentsia doesn't think I'm cheating on them...

What to do with 2 places that have Clovers.

What obnoxious baristas at Intelligentsia?

Since LA Mill is (rumored to be) using the same type of coffee machine as Intelligentsia, I don't know if the lines for coffee will be any shorter.

I also heard that Back Door will be no more by Feb. I will miss them but their coffee wasn't very good.

Coffee Rec in or near Alpharetta

Looking for good coffee in or near Alpharetta. I know that's a subjective question. Here is an idea of what I'm looking for:

They might make coffee using a Clover

They use good quality beans, Ily preferred

The cappuccino doesn't come in an 8 ounce cup

The barista can pour the latte or cappuccino and put the approriate foam on top without using a spoon

Not Starbucks or Caribou or Seattle's Best

Thanks for your help.

Tea Room around the LA area?

If you are looking to host a bridal shower for 25 people, I don't know if either place can will accomodate you.

For what you get (ie food and ambience), Scarlet Tea Room is not expensive. Start checking around and you'll see. Also, they have plenty of parking.

Chado on 3rd isn't bad either, but I don't think you will have enough parking in that area to accomodate 25 vehicles. If you're set on Chado, there is a location in Pasadena which has valet parking.

I definitely second the recommendation of pleasurepalate who said to check out www.teamap.com. You'll find many options.

Good Luck.

Blue Coral in NB?

Went with some friends last month. I can't remember what everyone had BUT The lobster mac and cheese was hands down a favorite. Everyone said it was wonderful. I don't eat cheese so I can't comment.

If you do decide to do the Lobster Fuego and Mac N Cheese combo, it is a good portion. Will easily feed 2 or more. The Mac N Cheese alone could feed 2.

The Yellowtail Crudo (appetizer) was ok. I felt the sauce was a bit overpowering for the delicate fish. Mojitos weren't as good as I have had at some places in LA (Luna Park) but not bad. For the price, I would expect better.

Did not have dessert so I can't comment on it but the cappucino was very good.

Service was very good and it was a very fun atmosphere.

Zoar Tavern - Decent Food but BAD Service

I had dinner the other night at the Zoar Tavern & Inn in Zoar, OH. While the food wasn't too bad, the service was terrible.

A group of us were there in their private room for dinner. There was 1 menu per table of 6 so we had to request extra menus with 2 servers working the room of 5 tables. We found out later that 1 of the servers was brand new.

We order our food AND order a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white wine for each table. One server brings out the wine but there are no wine glasses on the table so she has to get the wine glasses. She does this for 2 tables then we don't see ANY servers for 30 - 45 minutes. When the server comes out to give us our salads, we ask about the wine and are told that they're out of the red wine we ordered.

Then, we order a different red wine for the other tables which eventually comes out. However to get the wine for the remaining tables, they had to stop serving the salads. Again, no wine glasses on the tables. It takes us another 5 - 10 minutes to get wine glasses. At this point, they finish serving the salads. 10 minutes later our entrees come out. 15 minutes later, we are asked if we would like dessert or coffee.

At the beginning of the meal, we couldn't get them to wait on us. Towards the end we felt very rushed. When the bad service was brought to the attention of the owner, he said, "What do you want me to do about it?"

The food wasn't bad but ignoring us then rushing the food out to us put a damper on what should have been a very enjoyable meal.

Korean Restaurant with a Variety of Dishes

My friend needs a crash course on Korean food. She will be traveling to Pusan (Busan) in October and would like to get some exposure.

There is only 1 night available for us to get together and do dinner. Unfortunately, I frequent the places that have a specialty.

Can anyone recommend a place that offers a decent variety of Korean food?

We will either end our night at Wien Bakery or Cafe Miaafe to show her what a Korean coffee house is like. Any other Korean coffee/tea house recommendations are welcome, too.

Thanks.

Atwood Lake Recs

I will be staying at Atwood Lake in Dellroy, OH and need some recommendations for food that is close by. Good breakfast places, a place where I can get my caffeine fix and some good dinner places.

Thanks.

Going on a bakery spree this weekend

Love Susina. Whatever you get, wash it down with an Italian soda.

Back Door Bakery. Bring cash, they don't take plastic. I really like the croissants and fresh bread.

Almond Croissants with MAXIMUM almod paste; where in town

How about the almond croissants at Back Door Bakery. It is NOT 90% almond paste but it is a VERY good flaky croissant.

You could always see if they can make mini ones for you with more almond paste.

Where would you break a fast?

It's kind of later but you might also try Jade Cafe. It's a raw, fusion restaurant. Don't let that scare you. The food is very tasty and the "pizza" is fantastic.
