Help with Local Beers...

Dieu du ciel IS a world class brewery but some of their beers are already accessible in the states (Péché mortel for example). If you were to go with a DDC bottle, I'd highly recommend L'herbe à détourne which is a seasonal beer and is amazingly good. If you'd like something even more special for someone in the states, try stopping by Les Délires du Terroir on St-Hubert (in the Plaza) and ask for some beers from Le Trou du Diable. Really unique beers and pretty rare as well.

49th parallel coffee in Ville St-Laurent !!!!!!!!!!!! Could this be true?

Unfortunately no. They close around 7h00 or 8h00 pm everyday and are closed on sundays.

Great coffee for Good Friday

Thank you!

Great coffee for Good Friday

Great news! I'll drop by then. Do you know what the hours will be like?

Great coffee for Good Friday

Thanks!

Do you know beans from which roasters they sell?

Great coffee for Good Friday

I just read that Myriade will probably be closed on the 6th of april. Does anyone know if other coffee shops that sell fresh roasted beans will be open on that day?

Thanks in advance!
Patrice

Duck eggs in Montreal

They do sell them in NDG even in the winter. I'm not sure if the do every single week but I receive an email notice everytime they will be there. They also sell meat at the same time.

best place to buy wood chips for smoking?

Smoking on a Weber kettle, I've tried both chunks and chips. I had lots of flare ups with the chips. With the chunks, no more flare-ups and it was also easier for me to get thin blue smoke instead of big puffs of white smoke. I use lump charcoal and cherry wood chunks.

This is all to be taken with a grain of salt as I just started smoking meat last summer.

Opinion on best burger bun?

Personnally, I like to use Arhoma's onion buns for my burgers.

best place to buy wood chips for smoking?

Unless he/she really want to use chips, I would highly recommend using chunks instead. I bought mine at smokinlicious.com as they sell high quality smoke wood and have a good variety too. They do sell chips as well. As for Montreal, I've seen chips at Canadian Tire, Rona, Home-Dépôtt, Réno-Dépôt.

Just out of curiousity, what kind of smoker is it?

Is there anywhere in Montreal for fresh flour tortillas

At JTM, Maya only sells fresh corn tortillas. I asked about a month ago.

I'm Looking For Lardo.....

You might try to call The Italian Pantry on Monkland. They carry great Italian products such as guanciale.

Saucisse de Morteau in montreal?

Just to make sure you get to the right place, the one at JTM is called Cochons tout ronds. La queue de cochon is on St-Hubert in the Plaza.

Really fresh beans at Myriade today

I have to say that I'm impressed. And by the way, the Colombia Las Delicias from Ritual is really good.

Really fresh beans at Myriade today

I just came back from Café Myriade to get some beans and everything they had in stock (beans from 49th parallel, Ritual and Square Mile) had been roasted on the 19th. So now's a good time to go if you're low on coffee.

Ghost pepper in Montreal

If you're looking for it in dried from, they usually sell it at Olives et Épices at JTM.

La Binerie Mont-Royal in Montreal

If I'm not mistaken, they're trying to make the food a little healthier which could explain the undersalting.

Montreal QC -- Where can I find a good Polish beer in Montreal?

There is a small Polish delicatessen called Chopin on Decarie near Villa-Maria metro station. I used to go there for sandwiches a while a got lucky looking in the fridges! (I think it was Zywiec)

Pumpkin Gelato Montreal

Havre aux Glaces does indeed have a pumpkin and orange sorbet every year. When/if I see it there, I will try to post it here. As for Meu-Meu, I find the place to be quite a ripoff. Really expensive and average quality at best.

Dieu du Ciel, best microbrew in montreal area

I have to second le Trefle Noir. Very good beers for a young brewpub and friendly service. I wish I could go more often.

pork belly and kimchi

Porc Meilleur does sell pork belly. I see it pretty much every time I go. I find their pork to be of very high quality.

Stairsholme Farm meat/eggs

Do not miss the eggs! They are to die for when poached.

Stairsholme Farm meat/eggs

They usually have their eggs (duck only from what I know, well, cane actually) but I think that it would be better to order in advance for any meat.

49th parallel coffee in Ville St-Laurent !!!!!!!!!!!! Could this be true?

It is now my go to coffee shop. It's so refreshing to have such a place in St-Laurent with that level of quality. The owners and staff are very nice people too.

Good butcher to get steak from?

I know this is an old thread but you can also get Stairshole farms meats and duck eggs at Coop la Maison Verte on Sherbrooke W. in NDG every thursday between 3-7pm. You might have to order in advance though.

Thermapen in Montreal

I had been looking for a Thermapen myself for a couple of years but the shipping, custom fees, etc. had me waiting. I finally found a place to buy one without the hassle. I don't know how long it will last but eatwild.com has them for 96 us$ with free shipping. I got mine today and didn't get charged any other kind of fees. You don't get to choose the color though. I'm guessing they only have the red one. I hope this helps.

Broken Henckels knife

I will try to contact Henckels and see what they have to say. I know a knife is not meant to be dropped on the floor but I don't think it's normal for the whole blade (well, except about 1/2") to break off like that. We'll see how it goes.

Broken Henckels knife

Cleaning up the kitchen, I just dropped my 7" fillet knife tonight and the blade broke near the base. Does anyone know if any guarantee could cover this or do I just have to start shopping for a new knife?

Thanks!

Finding Farm-Fresh Eggs

For those of you looking for Stairsholme farm duck eggs and don't want to make the trek to Ste-Anne de Bellevue, I found out tonight that you can buy his eggs in NDG.

Every thursday from 3-7pm (Not totally sure about them being there from 3pm but it's around that time.) Ferme du Zephyr holds a market in front of Coop La Maison Verte and the people from Stairsholme Farm now come with them to sell the duck eggs.

They're pretty costly (4.25$ for 1/2 a dozen) but could not be more fresh. The ones I bought tonight had been laid yesterday. I will try them for the first time this saturday to make poached eggs for the family. Can't wait!

49th parallel coffee in Ville St-Laurent !!!!!!!!!!!! Could this be true?

It's finally open! For now, it closes at 7pm, might close later when they get more staff. They also make ice cream. I tried their Epic Espresso and their cardamom ice creams and both were pretty good. The lattes and the one espresso I've had so far were very good and seem to improve from time to time.

No I am not linked to the place in anyway. I was just happy to share good news as there are very few interesting coffee shops around here.
