mariage freres tea

well, i found it, but from an obscure online site. when i looked up the business online, it says it was a popular chicago tea house that has closed, but the order has been processed and we shall see what i receive!
it was very reasonable, as the mariage freres are avail sans tins, for about half the price. $14 for 100g and $14 shipping to pt roberts. i got the the de paques, french breakfast and marco polo. i love the earl grey silver tips, but i love the granville island cream earl grey green these days, so no earl grey this time.
the site is not well set up, but i found what i was looking for:

Pastry tools

Wondering if there is a source locally in YVR for purchasing individual pastry bag tips? Have seen the sets at Ming Wo and Gourmet Warehouse but only need a couple.

High Tea in Vancouver

having had the tea service both at bacchus and hotel van, the experience at hotel van was the best. the service definitely outshone that of bacchus - when my fellow 'totaller' suddeny realized afternoon tea treats might not be the perfect situation for her celiac(!) the server spoke to the chef who immediately, on the spot, created a delicious tray of options just for her. the setting was comfortable and luxurious and cozy.
The afternoon at bacchus was just less positive - we were crowded around a makeshift ill-situated table, actually, (we had reserved well in advance) and the server's attitude seemed like he'd be much happier catering to the cocktail crowd. bacchus is usually cozy, opulent and relaxing, but not, perhaps, if replacing the champagne flute with a teacup:)

Chestnuts in YVR

w/ port sounds wonderful. if they ever keep it in stock long enough, the stella cherry 'port' from Elephant Island is great to try. i'm hoping to have chestnuts for our thanksgiving table too- w/ roasted brussel sprouts and for the stuffing.

"Fox Run Crafstmen" Mix and Weigh Scale

I have had this scale for years - white, plastic, bowl sits on round scale, manual - not digital. Anyway, i just took this out of the cupboard for the first time in ages, and, for the life of me, i cannot remember how to reset the dial to zero once an ingredient has been added to the bowl. if anyone is still harboring this scale in their own kitchen, i'd love a reminder! thanks so much!

anyone know where to find a yoghurt maker in Vancouver?

Kumquats in Vancouver?

Just wondering if anyone has seen good quality kumquats in YVR in the past couple days - i think i'm looking a bit late in the season and didn't have any luck in Chinatown today. Am also intrigued by mandarinquats, although have never seen them. Has anyone tried anything interesting with the tiny mandarins that are around?

thanks!
