Good eats around the Holiday Inn on Plymouth Rd. & 23? [Ann Arbor, MI] Hi Hounds! I have friends in staying at the Holiday Inn on the east side of Ann Arbor. Little did I know that this weekend is U of M's graduation! So, I'd like to stay away from campus. I've been checking out a few places, but wanted some recs. Roger Monk's, Carson's, Umi Sushi have gotten mixed reviews. Anyone tried Cardamom in the Courtyard Shops? It's managed by someone that ran Shalimar, so it's probably pretty decent. We're open to any cuisine. |

Survey: Your Preference for Fat in Yogurt. Full fat. Cream top if it's available. Anything else seems like wallpaper paste. Yes, it is hard to find it because it's been drilled into us that "fat makes you fat" and that's just not true. |

Gender Reveal Party- At a restaurant-everyone pays for themselves- how to word evite OK, my post might get deleted or flagged for this question, but I'm not sure I understand the purpose behind a gender-reveal party. So you announce it's a boy. HURRAY!!!! Or you announce it's a girl. HURRAY!!!! Congrats either way. I don't get it. |

I was at Wurst (again!) on Wednesday. I lurv that place. Very busy and LOUD, since it was trivia night. Had the brat & bitter salad. Fresh greens, apple, blue cheese and a nice dressing with a grilled PBR brat on top. I'm trying to keep down the carbs, so this was just right. BF had the gravy burger: brisket, mixed with onions, thyme, and eggs, and fried in duck fat. Topped with caramelized onions, tomato jam, and gravy. Messy but delicious. And darn, I missed their holiday brat! http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/12/christmas-themed-hot-dogs-sausages-holidays.html You can also keep up with their every changing menu on Facebook: |

The Root, White Lak, MI Birthday Dinner Report Thanks again for the recommendation! My sister and I had a wonderful time there. She's been talking about it for days! A rainy Saturday night. Reservations at 7:00 and we were seated promptly. Water and bread on the table in moments. We ordered cocktails. A Cosmo for sis...she's not a cocktail person, and found it rather sweet. I had a simple martini up. Really, we didn't need them, but it was a good way to start the birthday. The place was very busy, all the tables were filled shortly after we arrived. Both of us ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairing. What a deal for $55! We sampled the crab cake and scallop apps. Second was their bright, crisp special kale salad with teeny pickled onions and the soup special-- potato with bacon and sage oil. Intermezzo of an orange sorbet. Mains were the Amish chicken w/ chorizo and porcini mushrooms and the trout with creamed corn and fingerlings. Dessert: pumpkin cheesecake and the Campfire Cup, which I found awfully sweet, but I'm not a big dessert person. Everything was plated beautifully and we found ourselves giggling like crazy at how delicious everything was. Portions were ample for a tasting menu, but I didn't leave feeling utterly stuffed. The Michigan wines for each course included a sparkling blanc de blanc, and an unoaked Chard, which was marvelous. Dessert was served with a Six Grapes port. And since I stayed overnight at my sister's, I hit the Keego Sausage Co. on the way home and got some of their incredible smoked pastrami and ate half of it in the car heading back to Ypsi! |

Birthday Dinner Around Keego Harbor? I love the menu...foie gras AND fried baloney sandwich? Gotta love that. Yeah maybe a bit pricey, but it is for a milestone birthday and my sis just moved back to Michigan after 15 years in Vermont, so this will be a lot cheaper than a plane ticket out there. Reservations have been made! |

Birthday Dinner Around Keego Harbor? Thanks! The Roadside menu looks pretty goods and I know Beverly Hills Grill always has great reviews. |

Weather is fine (here in Michigan). I'm wondering if I can just turn it into some sort of caeser salad dressing. I actually tried adding a third egg. It starts to thicken then turns into an olive oil smoothie. |

Birthday Dinner Around Keego Harbor? I'm taking my sister out this weekend and am looking for ideas for a nice birthday celebration. I could do Jeremy, she lives pretty much right around the corner and I've been there before. Otherwise, I'm not too familiar with that area. She loves Asian/sushi but isn't extremely adventurous. Any ideas would be welcome! |

I've been able to rescue broken mayo before, but this time it is utterly messed up. I've added extra egg yolk, more dijon, etc. etc., but no go. Is there anything I can make with this now? I hate to dump good olive oil and my backyard chickens' eggs. |

Gastroperisis- any diet tips for a newly diagnosed hungry girl... You might want to check this link out on Mark's Daily Apple about GERD and diet. The comments are really interesting! |

Does anyone have good info concerning the risks of SOY? You might want to pick up the book "The Whole Soy Story". http://www.amazon.com/The-Whole-Soy-Story-Americas/dp/0967089751/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t Also, the Weston Price Foundation has information on the dangers of soy consumption. |

found a new dairy free/vegan cheese that melts! OK, I just looked at the ingredients. What the heck is "vegan natural flavor"? I guess what makes it melty is all the processed oil in it. |

Cold Breakfast Cereal and Blood Sugar Spikes This is a "No-Oat Oatmeal" from Mark's Daily Apple (a great site you might enjoy). It's served warm, but I don't see why you couldn't serve it up cold, too. |

Feta and Chevre Cheesemaking Supplies? [Suburban Detroit] I agree, that's where I've bought my supplies from. And you can sign up for a really great e-newsletter as well. |

Chow ideas for west of Detroit? MM, can you give me the scoop on Cuppy's? I've been wanting to try it out as it''s not far from where I live and I even got some coupons in the mail. What can you recommend? |

There are a few reviews on Yelp and they're all great, so I'm anxious to try. Hopefully soon, so I will be sure to post my own review. |

I go there every couple of weeks, it's become kind of my neighborhood bar with the bonus of good food. They have some new items on the menu which I have yet to try. Last time I was there my friend ordered the new jambalaya. She said it was good and spicy, but I thought it was overpriced for what she got...looked like an awful lot of rice in the bowl. Scotch eggs are a nice low-carb option, and they now have sausages smoked over at Red Rock BBQ. Those have got to be good! And actual salads with greens in them. Since I'm a regular, I've never had bad service, but I've heard it to be iffy sometimes. The owner really does his best to make up for any glitches. |

Have to agree...it was a really great show. I think the entire new season has been exceptional. He's really cut back on the snark and is finding some really interesting food destinations. And I love Zamir. |

Anyone tried this place out yet? |

Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti Update on my first posting! OK, went back last night. It was pretty quiet, but was there fairly early in the evening. Had the pear cider, nice and dry, not too carbonated and their southerner burger...fried green tomato, pimento cheese & bacon on a pretzel bun. Very very good. I will have to make sure to try their side salads or soup next time. BF had a few pints of Dark Horse and the lamb/bison merguez. Chatted with the owner, Jesse. He's got some great ideas to keep the menu fresh. There was also a crawfish boudin available and he talked about an upcoming rattlesnake chorizo. There is wine on the drinks menu, starting today (Tuesday). A viognier, and two good reds. They also had shots of something called Bull Dawg, a Michigan-made herb liquor similar to Jager, but I was not up to that last night. So, get yerself over to Wurst Bar, fellow Chowhounders. |

Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti Oh, didn't want to come across as whiney (winey?)...I think the cider is a great alternative to beer. Well, anyway, I'm hoping to stop by again very soon. |
|
|
Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti I did ask for it, and they were out. I'd be happy with a couple of reds and a couple of whites. I usually drink wine when I socialize, and I can drink quite a bit of it, beer, not so much. Hey, I'd be helping their biz with a bigger bar tab! |

Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti I stopped in on Sunday afternoon and am really happy with everything we had. First of all, I've found my official neighborhood bar (I'm within walking distance) and the fact that they serve great food is a big bonus. They were out of a few things; our very attentive server Wendy explained that they didn't expect to be so busy on their first week. I had a well-spiced boerewors on a pretzel roll with sauteed onions, and some of their terrific house made pickles and kimchi kraut. The tables are set up with several kinds of mustard, too, which is a nice touch, as is having the food served in a tin meatloaf pan. |

|
Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti Drove by on my way home last night...it is indeed open, the new sign "THE WURST BAR" shining in red like a welcoming beacon. I am going to try and check it out this weekend. Just a couple reviews (good!) on Yelp right now. |
|
|
Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti FYI, Wurst Bar did not open as planned yesterday. They were waiting for delivery of some lighting. Looks like it will be Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. |

Why aren't we talking about Biercamp in A2? [Ann Arbor, MI] If you check out their Facebook page, they update with what's being freshly made, along with some pricing. I have got to get over there! |

Wurst Bar to Open in Ypsilanti I tried Corridor for the first time recently. Very good! I purchased their venison/blueberry at the Holiday Pop-up Market in the old Mongolian Grill space in Ypsi. Still have the lamb/fig in the freezer. I'm pleased to see more dining options in Ypsi. Also looking forward to Red Rock BBQ opening over on Michigan Ave., should be soon. |
