Slice follow up
Well we had our walk, lovely cloudless day, 14 people.
Our 1st Pizza stop was Campo di Fiore on 5th and Berkley - everyone was impressed
with the originality of the long pizza and the flavor and crust. We had a native Italian who
lives in Bensonhurst and he gave it thumbs up !
We walked through the Park, Prospect Park South, Ditmas Park and arrived at
Di Fara. It was dirty and crowded as usual but we got our slices and everyone was
VERY happy.
Onto Ciccio on Ave U where the sesame crust was appreciated , people said the
pizza was good but not exceptional.
By now all were full but we ended up at Cuccios bakery on Ave X for Desert.

Best SLICE in Brooklyn
Thanks Mike
We'll be walking very close to Ciccio's and will plan to stop in - I am a bit of a classic pizza eater, thin crust, cheese and sauce - that's it, but sesame seed crust sounds good
Best SLICE in Brooklyn
Aug - Williamsburg is just too far out of our route from Brooklyn Bridge to Sheepshead Bay or
Coney Island - but I'll certainly give them a try next time I'm there.
Best SLICE in Brooklyn
I agree - Grimaldi's is just too full of tourists - have you tried Ignazzio's around the corner?
I know Gino's but it is a bit out of our way. Thanks for the reply.
Best SLICE in Brooklyn
I like Del Mar - over 50 years in business, crisp thin crust and tasty sauce - to each his own.

Best SLICE in Brooklyn
Thanks Babysmom - I live in Manhattan Beach and have known V & S since they opened,
my wife's favorite but I like Del Mar - do get to DiFara (who has reopened after being closed for health violations) - I think they are a bit too heavy with the oil but you should make up your own mind.
Best SLICE in Brooklyn
I'm planning a walking tour (for a hiking club) centered on finding the best slices of Pizza
in Brooklyn.
We will cross the Brooklyn Bridge and wind up in
Sheepshead Bay.
I plan to get to DiFara, Del Mar (Sheepshead Bay) , and Spumoni Garden (not a favorite but
a classic).
Can I get any recommendations for Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights.
Windsor Terrace, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst?
Slices only - no Grimaldi, Lucali or Totonos
Thanks much

Brooklyn Pizza Survey
Forget L&B - I am a 70 yr. old Brooklyn native and they are mediocre at best.
Try Ignazio's 4 Water St. (instead of Grimaldi's) under the Brooklyn Bridge - crisp, fresh,
wonderful pizza. Di Fara and Lucali make up the top 3!

Diner/mid priced restaurant with private room for 40
Thanks for the advice - while it would be fine for me many of the folks
are not adventurous eaters = looking for diner type menus,
Diner/mid priced restaurant with private room for 40
My hiking club has an annual meeting every November.
We have been holding it at Ben's Deli on W 38 but are not
happy with the food, service, ambiance.
We are looking for a suitable alternate on the lines of the
Gemini Diner on 2nd Ave.
We need a private room for about 40 - entree prices from 12-20.
It should be located near public transportation - hopefully midtown.
Hoping you might have suggestions.
fresh CHEAP fish in brooklyn or queens
It has been illegal to sell fish from the fishing boats in Sheepshead Bay
for over a year now. Some of the boats are selling in defiance of the laws.
Go to 8th. Ave. Chinatown for cheap fish - they have a fast turnover so the
fish is usually fresh.
Kim Chee in Brooklyn?
There is a Korean Deli on Prospect Park West
probably between 16 St and 17th - on the north side of PPW.\
They make their own kimchee - tried it - not bad.
Walk into each deli and look for the Korean owners.
I make Kimchee - not very hard to do but certainly time consuming.
Bay Ridge- private/semi private
New Corner - Italian - they've been there 50 years and I was never disappointed.

Trulli Disappointing
Went to celebrate my wife's 65 birthday here tonight.
Ambience - the room is attractive and well laid out but is in sore
need of a fresh painting and the chairs need refinishing and shampooing.
The men's and ladie's rooms are miniscule and not well appointed and also
in need of a painting.
Service - staff was friendly and helpful and attentive. A dish of broccoli rabe
ordered with the main courses was forgotten.
Food
Appetizer - I had grilled Octopus - perfectly cooked and seasoned - the best dish of the
night. My wife had Baccala - well done but served with what looked like
commercially made potato chips.
Primi - We shared a dish of Malloreddus - homemade Sardinian Saffron dumplings
with sausage and tomato - the dumplings were well executed the sausage was
rich, the Saffron got lost because the sausage overpowered it, the dish was
highly over salted.
Secondi - I had the Zuppa di Pesci and my wife had the rack of lamb.
The Lamb was perfectly executed and tasty - the sauteed dandelion greens which
accompanied it were again highly over salted.
The Zuppa broth was excellent and the clams and mussels were well cooked.
The shrimp (head on) were overcooked as was the lobster. The squid was like
rubber.
Best PIZZA in the USA
A blogger, Alan Richman drew up a list of the top 25
Pizzas in the US.
Lucali's on Henry Street was #2
Totonno's was #10

Great Italian or Spanish 34th and below
Thanks so much all of you for taking time to respond.
I have made reservations at Trulli at the recommendation of
ChefJune - who I know from another board.
Will certainly report back with my opinion.
Great Italian or Spanish 34th and below
Thanks notsochubby
Have checked out their websites - Flor de Sol looks promising - will
go there and check the place.
Great Italian or Spanish 34th and below
Her birthday is 5/29.
The $125 does not include tip wine.
We prefer a cozy and not boisterous place.
I didn't like the menu at Babbo - not enough seafood
Great Italian or Spanish 34th and below
My wifes 65th birthday and we would like to celebrate in an
upscale Italian or Spanish Rest.
Trying to keep it around $125/person.
Best Spanish in NYC
Thanks all for the suggestions - we may wind up first going for
some tapas and then to Sevilla.
Thanks again

65th birthday - looking for best Spanish in Man. or B'klyn.
any help?
Bagels-Where, oh where, can you be(in Brooklyn)?
lifelong brooklyn native (67 years) - lived in Bay Ridge - never liked those
huge puffy bagles at Bagle Boy - Bagle Hole makes authentic old style
bagles - there is also a Bagle store on Coney Island Ave between T & U
which makes authentic bagles - they have been there for 50 years or more.
Leonard Lopate (WNYC) highly praises Bagle Hole on 7th.
Steamed Pork Buns?
almost any place that sells baked roast port buns also sells
steamed - cantonese they are 'jing char su bow'
any place that has dim sum and most chinese bakeries make them too.
In Brooklyn - 8th Ave, 86St in Bensonhurst, Ave U in Sheepshead Bay
all have lots of stores where you can get them.
iso a restaurant for lunch with visiting parents
I am a Garden Guide at BBG and have to be there tomorrow - would be
happy to give you a tour. They have a very nice cafe at the Garden but it is outdoors only
and I think you are looking for something nicer.
I live across the bay from Fornetto - it is waterfront - nothing
to write home about.
Michaels on Ave R and Nostrand is much nicer and much better food
and is closer to the Garden.
