Crossroads farmers market. There is stall there by Simple Simon Soups selling pickled sausage.

This is most likely the exact menu I would do:
Gluten free bread/bagel topped with any or all of the following: cream cheese, avocado, tomato, cucumber, smoked salmon, capers.
Potato home fries/hash browns and fruit salad on the side....

Also pretty quick an easy if you microwave the potatoes before tossing in the pan.

I ended up booking at Thomsons - we are looking forward to it.

The Gut - you may want to make some calls to see what space looks like. I tried the Palliser a few weeks ago and they were already fully booked.
I made reservations at Thomsons and the only seating available for a table of 2 was 3:00 or 7:00pm. They do have tables available for larger parties at other times.

Hi All

We will be going out for dinner on the 25th. Am considering Thomsons, Carriage House and Blackfoot Inn.

Thomsons is considerably more expensive $70ish per person but I don't mind paying more if it is worth it.
Any other recommendations are more than welcome!

I have never been but I drive by the Tuscan Soup Kitchen everyday. It is across the street from Crossroads Market in the SE.

I usually preorder from Winters Turkey and pick up from various dropoff locations.

Regina's Fine Meats at Crossroads Market near Inglewood does fresh turkeys (have to preorder I think - but may have some first come first serve).

I am also pretty sure there are Hutterite selling fresh Turkeys and Geese near the front doors of Crossroads - again preordered and first come first served.

Didn't even thing about cooking fully and transporting. That would be fine. I usually let my turkey rest 30 min before carving.

I'm not an expert but there is no way I would do that.
Why not prep them Christmas Eve and eave at you parents and they can put in the oven. Once the bird is in there is not much work for them to do.

I am terrible at dress codes. Semi-formal = cocktail dress? Really, I find Calgary to be pretty forgiving in terms of dress code. You can get away with denim/nice top or cocktail dress/heels at most places

Also what do you consider reasonable-ish prices? I'd say under $30 entrees?

Aida's - good food, good prices, not great for large numbers
Vin Room - you could do charcuterie/cheese and tapas
AKA Wine Bar - all entrees $25 and under
Diner Deluxe - My fav. for good food at reasonable prices. Maybe not so much on semi-formal though

Great dinner menu - try the lamb shank - and pretty good wine/beer/cocktail selection.
Big Fish would also be a good option in Bridgeland.

The Hutterites at Crossroads market always have them Thanksgiving weekend.

Before I had my dutch oven I used a stainless stockpot with lid. Just preheated as directed in oven.

The bread is better in the dutch oven but I was very happy with the stock pot method as well.

We have always had affordable, delicious dinners here.

I agree... the Ploughman's Lunch was a fave.... think they call it the "brew lunch" now.

Sorry - late reply. I shop Deerfoot Meadows and buy the Libertie plain to make yogurt at home. It is in the organic dairy section.

We went to Blackfoot Inn for dinner buffet on Christmas Day. It was OK. I won't be back and wish I had booked into the Fairmont. They look like they are open Sunday for a dinner buffet.

Check the other hotels... Fairmont Palliser will most likely have options.

Aida's on 4th St SW is a favorite of ours. Delicious Lebanese food and affordable. Very good vegetarian options.
The Coup? Another favorite but can be noisy.

Desert Pita has a GREAT roasted eggplant pita - I have it every time I go. Everything else I have tried has just been OK.

Superstore in Calgary (Deerfoot Meadows) also carries a large selection.

I am not sure of the name but there is a place near Willow Park in Forest Lawn that sells it.

I believe it is just south of 17th Ave SE on 31st Street.
