Point Reyes Lighthouse and The Marshall Shore
Thanks for mentioning this one. Thought I'd researched the area pretty well but had missed it, & like the OP this one fits our itinerary better. O'course we'll probably stop by the Marshall Store en-route north just for an afternoon taste...
(this was supposed to end up under rubadubgdub's mention of Drake's Beach Cafe but instead put itself at the end of the whole thread)

Oysters in Phoenix
Do you know where their oysters are from, or does selection vary? Thanks.

Cheese stores from Bay area south to Big Sur, north to Menocino (but ex-San francisco)
Yes, they are on the map, thank you. I'd come across them while poking around online so they were already on our itinerary. There's no copyright or other date on the map so I'm not sure when it was published or how accurate the information is.
I'd like to thank you, too, for your detailed posts on this board. They saved me from asking a -lot- of questions because you'd already answered them.

The Sonoma Marin Cheese Trail Map arrived today-- thanks again! We'd already booked the Cowgirl Creamery tour at their Point Reyes Station shop, & will now see which other creameries will be on our route. You've helped make this trip a bit more special.
Cheers!
Fish Tacos at The B Line, Tucson
I've seen their fish tacos mentioned here a few times. We were finally back to Tucson & managed to find parking even with the construction mess (for the record: on-street no-permit parking at 3rd Avenue by 4th Street; then find the gaps in the fence to cross the street) & enjoyed a really fine lunch. Their tortilla soup is tasty too. There aren't many tables & the place was mostly full around midday today so I'd guess it would be a happy zoo without the construction. Thanks to those who've mentioned The B Line. http://blinerestaurant.com/

Good Japanese/Asian Store, anywhere from Fort Bragg to Big Sur?
It's now on the itinerary, many thanks. Cheers!
Good Japanese/Asian Store in Berkeley, San Jose or Santa Clara?
The Union City Daiso is just close enough to 880 that we may be able to fit it in, thanks.

We've found cheese maps for various other states, Wisconsin & Vermont come to mind. Thought I'd poked around online to see if there were any for California but I missed that one, thank you. Have bookmarked the blog for later.

Good Japanese/Asian Store, anywhere from Fort Bragg to Big Sur?
Thank you both. I forgot to say that we're going to avid San Francisco itself this trip, sorry to waste your time. We'll be flying into & out of San Jose, & will then be north to the Mendocino area, loop back, & head south as far as Big Sur. I've posted to the San Francisco Bay board too but forgot to clarify our plans on this one.
Cheers!
Fish/Seafood Stores in the Phoenix Area?
We don't have a Costco card & Hobe's website doesn't say anything about seafood, but Bluewater Grill, now -that's- exactly what we're looking for. Thanks!
Good Japanese/Asian Store in Berkeley, San Jose or Santa Clara?
Thank you, yes, just found out about Japantown yesterday when looking at the Saratoga Avenue recommendations above. Looks really good & it's now on the itinerary.
Cheers!
Good Japanese/Asian Store in Berkeley, San Jose or Santa Clara?
We're flying into & out of SJC so that's not out of the way at all. Thanks.

Good Japanese/Asian Store in Berkeley, San Jose or Santa Clara?
Most amazing, within hours there are 6+ possibilities. Many thanks...

Good Japanese/Asian Store, anywhere from Fort Bragg to Big Sur?
We'll be looking for a good Asian store when we visit your fine state in a few weeks. We'll mostly be along the coast from Fort Bragg to Big Sur, but will be inland a bit in wine country & the Marin headlands.
Specifically we broke one of our little dishes for soy sauce for sushi &, not too surprisingly, can't find any good ones here in the desert southwest. Any ideas?

We'll be looking for a good Asian store when we visit your fine state in a few weeks. We won't be to that much of the Bay area, but will be briefly in Berkeley, San Jose & Santa Clara.

Fish/Seafood Stores in the Phoenix Area?
Aside from Whole Foods & Lee Lee Market, can anyone suggest a good place for fish & seafood in the Phoenix area? Thanks.
Cheers!

We'll be passing through Salinas en-route back to the airport so your Star Market suggestion is appreciated, thanks.
As much as we dislike Whole Foods' prices we live in a vast zone of no cheese so have their website bookmarked & had already added the Monterey store to the itinerary. We like to stock up & bring cheese back home with us. This is shaping into a tasty trip.

This one had slipped under the radar too... thanks.

We had planned to entirely avoid the cities around the Bay... we'd never heard of The Cheese Board... we looked at the website... ***We'll Be There***! Man'o'man does that place look good, & it's only a very few minutes off the freeway to get up to Pt Reyes Station, right en-route with our plans. Many thanks.
Cheers!
The Wild Plum Cafe & Bakery-Monterey
Ah, thank you (again). Both websites show the Munras address.
Cheers!
The Wild Plum Cafe & Bakery-Monterey
Wild Plum appears to have the same address as the Parker-Lusseau Bakery. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.

Ah, Cowgirl Creamery... their cheese is widely distributed & we've been enjoying it in many places for many many years. Thanks for mentioning it. If we hadn't known it would have been a shame to miss it.

Many thanks, PolarBear. I'd come across Harley Farms while poking around online but I'd missed the store in Carmel & that great online article.
Hi Ho Curds, Awheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey!
Cheese stores from Bay area south to Big Sur, north to Menocino (but ex-San francisco)
We'll be back after, too many years away, for a few weeks in a few months. Where are the good cheese stores now? We'll be mainly along the coast & will have a car so can drive anywhere within a reasonable distance. Please note that we're flying into San Jose & plan to avoid the city of San Francisco. Thanks.
Leftover smelt roe - what should I do with it?
Our local Asian store sells the roe frozen. We spoon out what we need & put the rest back in the freezer. Flavor & texture haven't seemed to change at all & we've had the package for months.
Cheers!
Experience with defrosting 5 lb. blocks of shrimp?
I used a hammer & chisel/icepick the first few times we bought a 5-pound block of shrimp, then decided to stop buying blocks of shrimp...
Cheers!
Cheese Selection at Phoenix-area Whole Foods?
We're in the SE part of the state, 10 miles north of the border, a distinct Zone of No Cheese. Thanks for mentioning Fresh & Easy, hadn't heard of it, & for your comments on the other places. We're going to be through Phoenix soon & are really looking forward to some good cheese once again.
Cheers!
Cheese Selection at Phoenix-area Whole Foods?
I've read about Wedge & Bottle on the board here & am looking forward to checking it out the next time we're through town. What about Whole Foods? Is the cheese selection better at some stores than others?
Cheers!
