Best Vietnamese in Worcester?
So we tried to go to Vietnam cafe but got there a few minutes before seven. They close right at seven so we ended up at Saigon near Clark. It wasn't bad but seemed more Chinese than Vietnamese to me. The fresh rolls and the house fried rice were very good. We had a couple of uninspired dishes and the pho was too sweet for my taste.
So planning ahead this past Saturday, I picked up a big carry out order for the five of us from Vietnam Cafe. Everything was fantastic. The Bon Mi and the Shrimp and lemongrass were outstanding. We also got spring rolls, fresh rolls, house fried rice, a noodle dish and chicken pho. Not a bad dish in the whole order.
I will have to try Pho 2000 sometime. I would highly reccomend Vietnam Cafe for take out or lunch. I can't say I would go there for dinner because of the early closing time and the simple decor.
Best Vietnamese in Worcester?
It sounds like Bamboo Hut is closed from what I gather. I am thinking of trying either Vietnam Cafe or Pho 2000. Does Vietnam Cafe have a full menu or are they mostly known for their banh mi?
As far as kid-friendly appetizers, pretty much anything fried or on a stick will work.
Best Vietnamese in Worcester?
I have been to Da Lat a couple of times. The service has been good but the food hit and miss. I am looking for another Vietnamese place to try out. I am going with my kids so a good selection of kid friendly appetizers is important. Thanks in advance for any reccommendations.
Looking for a Cozy Tavern
The Grog in Newburyport might fit the bill. The food is decent and as i recall they have a couple of fireplaces. Try to go on a night they don't have live entertainment. It can get a bit loud depending on where you are sitting. They pour a good Guinness as well.
Jamaican or Caribbean in Western Mass
I can confirm that "One Love" is in Worcester. I think the person was confusing Worcester and Springfield. I have been there a couple of times and the food is quite good. Just don't be in a hurry as every dish is cooked from scratch.
What discontinued products do you miss?
The wild Maine blueberry was one of my favs as well. Maybe they should revive a couple of flavors from the graveyard every Halloween.
What discontinued products do you miss?
Great story! Was it true they stopped making them because of carpal tunnel?
Wellfleet vs Duxbury's Island Creek Oysters
I prefer the Wellfleets. The Island Creeks are a bit sweeter than Wellfleets. The Wellfleets are more salty.
What discontinued products do you miss?
Ben and Jerry's used to make the best ice cream sandwich. They stopped making it because the workers were getting carpal tunnel from making them by hand.
Sebo Lately?
Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like Sebo is still worth a visit. I hope we can get a seat at the bar for the omakase. I will report back after our trip.

The house aged Wagu at Oya is what put me over the edge. It simply melted in my mouth.
If you make to the East coast often, you should check out Miyake in Portland Maine. It is almost as good as Oya at a fraction of the price.

Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku
Sorry to dig this out of the past but I am just now seeing it. I love Baba but they are mostly a place for great rolls imho. Miyake is more authentic and unusual and special. If Miyake were closer I would go there on a regular basis. I would compare it to Oya in Boston before comparing it to Baba. Oya is roughly three times the price of Miyake.
Sebo Lately?
Thanks Scott and Windy:
I was not aware of the new Morimoto. Perhaps we will hit both and report back.
Oya was pricey but worth every penny.
How late can we arrive and not be frowned upon at Sebo? We will probably be hitting them up on a Wednesday night. I was thinking of getting there around 8:30 or 9. I know we can't reserve a spot at the bar but we will make reservations.

Sebo Lately?
My wife and I are visiting San Francisco and then Napa in a few weeks to celebrate our anniversary. It is my first trip to the Bay area. We both love sushi and saw Anthony Bourdain's visit to Sebo on No Reservations.
I have been reading some less than positive reviews online for Sebo lately. Most of the negative reviews complain about the price and not being full. I am not sure if the influx of these reviews is just a result of Sebo's recent popularity or if they have gone downhill. Can anybody who has been there recently comment on the current quality of the sushi?
To provide a little backround, I prefer nigiri and sashimi to rolls and we love trying new things. I have never been to Japan but the best sushi dinner I have ever had was at Oya in Boston. We also have done the omakase at Nobu in Vegas which was pretty good. We usually have sushi once a week so I am not sure if that qualifies us as true sushi nuts.
We are looking for a fun sushi bar to have dinner and try some new things. The sort of place we can sit at the sushi bar and keep eating till we pop. We are willing to consider an omakase as long as it is not mostly cooked dishes. If anybody has a suggestion of another sushi bar to go to please feel free to chime in.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku
We ended up going to Miyake and we had one of the best meals of our lives! We didn't do the omakse but just ordered a la carte. We will do the omakse next time. Everything was outstanding but the top two were the pork belly and live uni. This restaurant was so good it made us consider moving to Portland. Just writing this makes me want to drive there this weekend.
The staff was incredibly nice. Our table was not quite ready when we got there but they put our saki on ice for us. We took a short walk and our table was ready when we returned. The atmosphere was not very intimate just fine for us.
Thanks for the help.
Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku
We are staying at a little b&b on Danforth Street. Both places are less than a quarter mile away. I think we will stick with Miyake. It sounds a bit more creative and unusual. Thanks for the info and setting me staight on the location. I will be sure to report back on our meal.
Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku
Which one would you rate as having better food? I have a reservation at Miyake. For some reason, one of the sites put Miyake in South Portland. It looks like we could walk to either one. It sounds like you prefer Yosaku.
Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku
I need some help deciding where to go tomorrow night. We are staying very close to Yosaku but reviews seem to be mixed these days. It is our anniversary this weekend and it sounds like the decor at Yosaku is maybe a little nicer. I am looking for things we normally wouldn't find at sushi places around Boston and Worcester. One of my favorties near home is Baba in Worcester. The menu and specials at Miyake sound very interesting.
Thanks in advance!
Authentic Carribean food
I went to One Love a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I both had great meals. You can't be in much of a hurry because everything is made from scratch. The owner makes you feel right at home. You can also bring your own wine or beer if you wish.
Where can I find live blue crabs?
Just a quick update: Chris from the Quarterdeck in Maynard hooked me up with a bushel of male crabs from Maryland. They were not cheap but it is still early in the season. It was actually a bargain if you consider they feed a party of 16 people and then my wife and I got two more meals out of them. We made some awesome crab quesadillas last night. I am done picking crabs for a while. Thanks for all the help!
Where can I find live blue crabs?
She-crabs have more of a roundish triangle and the males more of an inverted T. I prefer the males for picking but the females are fine for making soup. Thanks and I will post back if I have any luck.
Where can I find live blue crabs?
It is still a little early for Maryland crabs, but Texas and Florida crabs are always in season. Most people think about crabs in summer just like barbecues. They are just more expensive this time of year and fewer people carry them.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will check out c-mart once it gets warmer. Any idea if they carry males or females?
I was hoping to have a crab fest for my birthday this weekend. I will report back if I find any locally.
Where can I find live blue crabs?
Keep the wise cracks to yourself :)
Does anybody know of any seafood purveyors that I can get live blue crabs from? I have had them shipped from Maryland but had problems in the past. The shipping is very expensive and often only a few crabs are alive when they arrive. I think that Summer Shack still has them one night a week, but they won't sell live crabs.
Thanks for your help
Where can I find live blue crabs?
Does anybody know of a place to buy live blue crabs in the area. I have gotten them shipped from Maryland before with mixed results. Thanks in advance!
Kid-friendly special dinner near P'town in April
The Lobster Pot is not real upscale but I have never had a bad meal there. It is pretty standard seafood and a few Portuegese dishes. We have been taking our kids there since they were infants. It also has a nice view and great service. I wish I could help more but don't know what else is open off season.
I have heard really good things about Blackfish in Truro but don't know if they are open in April or how child friendly they are.
Cedar Street or The Castle
Thanks. I still want to get out to the Castle some time soon. I have heard great things about their wine dinners. There is something to be said for any business that has been family owned for fifty year.
As far as Cedar Street, it exceeded our wildest expectations. I have already recommended it to a bunch of friends.
New high end beer bar in Worcester, MA
Armsby Abbey is awesome. They have a great selection of beers on tap served up in the right glasses. One poster mentioned that he/she wanted a full glass of beer for their money. Most beer afficionados would agree that the head is a sign of a properly poured beer and adds to the enjoyment. You may notice next time that each glass has a calibration line, so you are getting the correct amount of beer. The food is great, especially the mac and cheese. It aint Boston, but for Worcester its "wicked good!"
Cedar Street or The Castle
My wife and I ended up going to Cedar Street and I am very glad we did. It was one of the best meals we have had out in a long time. I tried a Cool Cucumber martini that was very interesting. The cucumber really came out and was mixed with cool mint and lime flavors. It sounds pretty weird but it was awesome. My wife had a glass of champagne. I had the calamari which was the best I have ever had. It was served piping hot, very tender and had fried slices of pickles. Another odd combination but it worked. My wife started with a beet and goat cheese salad that was fantastic. I ordered the ciopino which could have fed two or three people. The broth had fennel safron and a touch of tomato. There were all sorts of scallops, shrimp, clams, mussels and mahi mahi in the broth. My wife had one of the best risottos we have ever had. It had butternut squash and some nice garlicy shrimp with a few cheeses and spinach. We finished up with a fantastic carrot cake and coffee. I had the house coffee and my wife had a french press of Yemen Mocha Mattari. The coffee was the best I have ever had at a restaurant!
Cedar Street or The Castle
I would like to take my wife out for dinner this weekend and have narrowed it down to two choices. I have never been to either one. Does anybody have any recomendations for The Castle in Leicester or Cedar Street in Sturbridge. I searched on this site but did not come up with many hits for either one.
Thanks in advance!
