Salis Noodis - Yonge/St. Clair
There is a new restaurant in the main floor of a condo on Yonge south of St. Clair called Salis Noodis. It appears to be south east asian-themed. Has anyone been there? There's no way this could be good, right? I love the chance they are taking in this area, but I have doubts on how they will execute. I do not work in the area so would like to see if anyone has been there before I make the trek.
Pizza e Pazzi - St. Clair/Dufferin - New Neapolitan place
I went to this place last week with my wife. It was great. I honestly have not had pizza this good since I was in Naples 4 years ago. We went very basic - 1 margherita and 1 marinara. The crust is excellent. Make sure to ask for the chili oil which is a great alternative to chili flakes - it made the pizza taste even better.
We had bruschetta and calamari as apps. We wanted the risotto balls but they had sold out by 8 pm. The bruschetta was excellent, dripping with olive oil. The calamari was "egh". Overall, very good meal.
One negative to the pizza may be the tomato sauce. I have had better. But crust-wise, this is the best I have had in Toronto.
Will definitely go back.
Senior's
There are a few threads on this board about Senior's Steakhouse at Yonge and St. Clair, but nothing in the last 3 years. Has anyone been there recently? I am thinking of going, but looking through the main floor windows always seems so sketchy. Is the steak good?
japanese grocery
The PAT places are korean. I have the place for you. Heisei market in J-Town on steeles. It is a bit far from you...you will need a car, but it is 100% japanese. Everyone there is japanese. All the products are imported. They have meats, fish, sushi, even a cafe. it is a must-go. here is a link

Go to Spadina for chinatown. Depending on what suburb you are in, there may be other chinatowns closer to you. There are 5 chinatowns, but only one "real" chinatown which is Spadina and Dundas. Also Kensington Market is there, which was suggested above. If you like Dim Sum, you can't beat lai wah heen which was suggested above as well. It is high end. There are better value places on Spadina, but the best dim sum is actually in the chinese area suburbs, especially markham. Many other posts on that. Find out where you are staying.
Fav Shawarma places in the GTA???
I have long wanted to try Pita-Q...are they really better than Sarah's? Sarah's is my absolute favourite.
Yitz's still pretty good
Agree, yitz's is the best deli in the 416. they have a great bakery selection and my 90 year old grandmother still swears by their chopped liver. i like their pastrami. oh, and they have GREAT bagels! people should rediscover yitz's.
Caplansky's Amazing Smoked Meat Sandwich
I agree with stonewall. It's not enough to stay away from the place, but it is kind of sketchy. not to say that there isn't great food in sketchy places in this city. i think stonewall was just giving a full assessment of the place so people know what it is like. on that note, i agree with the review. the sandwich is good, but not fantastic, and is better than most in toronto, but not up to par with other cities' sandwiches.
Loaf Cakes - Toronto
I have heard of that...but i can not find it on google. They may be done.
Where to buy cookware, bakeware, etc?
Cant' remember the names, but there is a place on Avenue south of Davenport, and a place on Yonge just south of Yorkville. Also there are cheap homeware stores in Pacific Mall. Even William Ashley gourmet shop has the same stuff as WS, but for less.
Omurice, Curry, Katsu-Don, Japanese Diner-type restaurant?
They have average curry at Sushi Garden on Yonge north of St. Clair. Bad curry at Tokyo Kitchen
Hong Kong Street Food in Toronto
There are these things sold on the street in HK, which taste like waffles, but they look like an upside down egg carton. I have no idea what they are called. I tried looking at Pacific Mall today with no luck...all they have are fried doughnut sticks. Does anyone know what these are or where to find them?
Zojirushi Rice Cooker in Toronto?
woah, i didn't know this. i have been looking mainly around pacific mall. they had the same model in J Town but it was way more. Perhaps because it was a japanese made model
Jaaadu or Amaya's Bread Bar?
Jaaadu is quality. There are many indian restos in Yonge/St Clair area, but this is the best
South Indian Vegetarian (downtown)
I have been to Udupi many times. They can set up a buffet on the side and it is big. Not sure if they close for private parties though. Damn tasty!
GTA's best crepe
I LOVE crepes a go go. I think their staff are from France, and not just french canadian. I have been to france and it is not the same, but that's as close as you can get in TOronto
