PRIME RIB

The Prime Rib all the way. You will probably never find a better prime rib anywhere. I've been going to both the Baltimore (original) and D.C. establishments for years. The one other location they have is in Philadelphia and that one is great too.

Need Some Recommendations for Places to Eat in Austin

That's a great list, thanks. I'll actually end up being down in Austin a couple more days than expected now so it'll give me a great opportunity to get a few more things checked off the list.

Need Some Recommendations for Places to Eat in Austin

I want to thank everyone that has submitted some input for the trip down to Austin. I've got a pretty sizable list to work off of now so I am going through each place, checking out the menu's, and looking at the details each of you have posted.

I'm pretty excited to be getting down there. I've heard a lot about it from some close friends and I love checking out new places for food. If anybody thinks of anything else, please feel free to give some more input. I will be checking this thread until I leave and I will list out the places I went and how I liked them when I get back.

By the way, are there any must-see things when I down there beside restaurants and bars? I will be trying the best I can to fit in as many things as possible when I have the chance. Anything additional is welcome. Thanks again.

Uchi is number one on my list so I will give you a report after I try it. Sorry to hear the dining out didn't go the way you were hoping, but I'm sure you had a great time golfing.

That is an awesome list of places. Exactly what I wanted.

By the way, did you ever get a chance to check out Uchi? From all the great recommendations, I will absolutely be going there. I'm interested in your opinion of it, though.

Need Some Recommendations for Places to Eat in Austin

The weekend of March 27-29 my father and I will be going to Austin to look at some property and get a feel for the area. We are coming in from the DC area so it will be nice to get some warmer weather than we've been having. We may be in town a day or two longer than just the weekend, but my father just recently got a new job in Austin so he will definitely be moving to the area in the next couple months.

I've heard great things about the restaurants and food in Austin so I am hoping some people on here can help out and point us toward some great places. We would definitely like some great restaurants for dinner each night. I'd like to go to a great steakhouse, great seafood place, and then maybe a fusion-style place for the third night. Also, if any of you guys have good recommendations for places for lunch then that would be fantastic, too. For lunch, I'm really up for anything...the only place I'd like to go specifically to lunch for is sushi so I'm hoping there is a great place for that.

On a final note, can anyone point me towards some great bars/lounges/clubs for the nightlife? I'm 21 and my father is 54 so we've got a bit of an age gap, but we have similar tastes in bars. It might be great to get a recommendation for places with people in the 20s-30s and then 30s+ so we can check out both. I'm sure he and I will probably split up one or two nights and check out some places on our own to see what we can find. I've already done a little bit of research, but I graduate this semester from the University of Maryland and I have a feeling I am going to be moving down to Austin with him.

Thanks for the recommendations in advance.

The Source: Anyone been there?

I've been there numerous times for dinner and it is always great. Each time I've had the Pan Roasted Organic Chicken. Everyone I have gone with has always loved it as well. I'm actually 21 now and whenever any girls go along with us, it instantly becomes one of their favorite places in DC to dine.

The prices are going to be those of an upscale restaurant. Entrees ranging 20s to low 40s. The service is usually pretty good and it has a great ambiance. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them.

Searching for Steak house recommendations

BLT is a very cool place with good steaks. If you will be eating with someone, you can share for the Porterhouse (made for 2) and you will be happy you did. Capital Grille is good but it's a chain and usually regarded as a good safe choice in major cities when you're not sure where to go; same goes for Ruth's Chris. Morton, in my opinion, is junk. Overpriced and not nearly as good as all of the other places you mentioned. I would highly suggest The Prime Rib also. It originated in Baltimore years ago and they have since opened one in DC and Philadelphia with no further plans of expansion. It is my staple place to go for steaks. Definitely a guys place, if you are into that sort of thing. The sides are fantastic (favorites: creamed spinach, potato skins) and the service is top-notch.

So I guess all in all, I would recommend either The Prime Rib or BLT. One thing I will warn though, BLT's sides kind of let me down. The only time I go back is when I just want a steak and a fun, lively atmosphere. If I want the full course meal, I always go to The Prime Rib where I can focus on the food and people I am with.

2 nights in Washington DC - need 2 great trendy restos

Can't wait to hear how you like both places. Good luck on choosing a place for pre-dinner drinks. There are many good places around there. PS7 is always fun and Zengo is great, too.

I'm going to have to disagree with that actually. I have been to The Prime Rib more than most people ever will have been and I have had their fish. Although it is good, Kinkead's definitely tops it in the taste and perfection of taste. Go to The Prime Rib to get a steak, not fish.

Kinkead's. I have not been to any other seafood restaurant in Maryland or DC that can top it.

2 nights in Washington DC - need 2 great trendy restos

I would definitely say Proof and The Source. 701 is absolutely not a trendy restaurant and I do not find it to be a good restaurant either. The one time I went there I was probably the most unsatisfied I have been at any restaurant in DC.

As to what others have recommended, here are my two cents: BLT is not trendy, it's steakhouse...and it is not the best one in the city for that matter; Brasserie Beck is cool, but definitely not what you are looking for; Central is great and one of my favorites so I would recommend that too, but I would still recommend Proof and The Source first based on what you want.

Those are just my opinions, but I can guarantee if you go to Proof and The Source you will be happy you did.

I also fully back The Prime Rib. I have been going to it for years now and it never leaves me unhappy. It is probably one of the only places in DC that I can count on for excellent service time and time again. If you are looking for a special time in an intimate setting, this is really the only place that I would recommend. I actually went down a list of my favorite places in DC expecting to find one or two others, but failed to find any other that fit the bill for you.
