I beleive I have failed as a chowhound parent, and now I must suffer.

I just laughed so hard at this I cried.

snacks or other foods you eat, that others find " gross"

I've mixed my CC with mango and cayenne, and honeydew and salt---maybe we're just BFF's that have been separated, because yours doesn't sound gross to me, at all

Oddly enough, when I mix flavored yogurt, cottage cheese, and grapes as a summer breakfast. Texture thing, I suppose.

Really Dumb Food...!

Last night, I saw a commercial for (I think Kraft) selling a bagged mix of cheese, "seasonings", and breadcrumbs for coating what appeared to be chicken, although I am assuming it could be used to coat anything. That seems a little excessive, and I think not having any control over the "seasoning" would be pretty terrible.

How to eat a cupcake...?

Totally agreed---stump first, with little regard for the crumbs I leave dying and bloodied along the way.

Near Tower Theater, Upper Darby

I think Yang Yang is the dumpling place---and if that's what you mean, it is really, really good!

Why ham on Easter? [split from Home Cooking]

Please, please, please tell me that Autocorrect was responsible for that "ficus on the Jews." Make my Friday.

What non-food/non-traditional food items did you eat as a kid?

Because I swallow gum? That's a better a reason than some I've heard. High five.

Ha-I do both of those things, too!

What non-food/non-traditional food items did you eat as a kid?

Maybe! I'm also a pen/pencil/straw etc. chewer as an adult, so God knows what my malfunction is. Hahah.

What non-food/non-traditional food items did you eat as a kid?

Yeah, just one kind of wax would have made me a dull girl. Totally agree. I eventually graduated to wax lips and wax soda bottle candy from the Jersey boardwalk. Classy dame.

Candles, particularly delicious on one's own birthday. Iced, naturally-I'm not some kind of freak.

Trader Joe's soups

Second all of your recommendations, and also like the black bean soup in the box packaging (but not the butternut squash, which I found much too sweet).

Just wanted to let you know that this was super fun to read-your mother sounds awesome.

Is There Any Commonplace Dish You've Never Eaten?

Ha, I can respect that. As I've admitted before on Chowhound, though, I dislike mustard, and hot dogs, and........gulp.........cheese. Pretty much got my face eaten for that one. I like chips enough, though!

I've never had SPAM, either----and, let's be serious, I'm from PA and I eat scrapple. I'm not scared of the ingredients in it, it's just never appealed to me. I should try it on purpose soon.

Is There Any Commonplace Dish You've Never Eaten?

I am really not sure! I've had all kinds of white fish, tuna, swordfish, etc. and liked them decently, and I really love shellfish, but something about it always freaked me out--I could completely be missing something big! It just never appealed to me enough to order it, and my family never ate it when I was young.

Same! And I don't like the smell. To each their own, though....I suppose :)

What Are Your Most and Least Favorite Pasta Shapes?

Absolutely. Growing up in a heavily Italian area, paying a ton for dried pasta that isn't something really special makes me grouchy.

If so, I believe I've seen it Italian specialty stores in or around Philly, or you could buy online!

What Are Your Most and Least Favorite Pasta Shapes?

Favorites: Gemelli, Orecchiette, and Quadrefiore

Least Favorites: Ditalini and Fettuccine

For me, it is definitely about texture, and also about that texture/shape's ability to convey sauce/seasoning of every kind. I'm a sauce girl.

LOVE the all-cherry Tootsie Pops, too! I also am a geek for Cinnamon Hearts and for Hershey's (I know, I know, but I'm from PA) chocolate-covered marshmallow hearts.

Agree that that dinner sounds delicious, but I simply cannot agree that any time spent on Swamp Thing is wasted :)

You're alone in a strange place...

This made me laugh so hard: " I'd assume there'd be multiple Roofie Coladas and a shallow grave at the end of the evening."

It reminded me of a roommate I had in school who, when I said that I'd been asked to go on a blind date with a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend, said : "This is terrible---this is either going to end in marriage or end with you as the star of a 48 Hours Mystery."

Do you have a favorite I'm-alone-now-so-nobody-will-know favorite dish?

That makes sense, since I seem to like my pasta (in general) a little less cooked than many other people.
