What's wrong with LOWER grade meat?

'Dialing-in the right amount of fat and cooking the meat to a preferred doneness is what separates us from the apes. '...... Yes Steve H., that and the fact that apes don't cook...y'know that the whole opposable thumb thing..... More fat= more taste...May I have a side of bacon with mine, please??? Thank you!!!

Best Chocolate

Bogey for President 2012!!!! I have to agree whole heartedly. Notice how the snobs automatically side with the French or Belgians. Good ole Mary See's is still the best chocalate by far. 1lb box of soft centers brings a smile to most any face. Also a childhood memory for me. I remember when my now brother-in-law first met my family, he brought my mother a box of Godiva's. Beautiful box from a very stylish man. When I asked if I could have a piece, she told me I could have the whole box if I would get her a box of See's. Whenever any family member or friends of parent's came to visit, one of the stops would be to the See's store either on La Cienega (Still there) or Overland ave. My parent's, Grandparents, uncle's and aunts are all long gone now and whenever I need a pick me up, I'm off to the See's store. Even when my older sister comes to visit we still stop by that store on La Cienega for a box on the way to the Airport even though she can order it on line.. Thank you Bogey for that memory. I have tears in my eyes.

Best Deals for $5.00 in SD (Blatantly Stealing a Topic)

Just had to laugh out loud and respond to you Cathy, as I just made this same comment to my brother and sister about Costco's roasted Foster Farms whole chicken. It is the best kept secret here in Southern Ca. I love this bird and it is roasted to perfection. Most times I have it without any type of side dish because the aroma was driven me crazy before I could get it home. And you are most correct. It is $4.99 and I get at least three meals out of it. So that is about $1.66 per meal. (watch to see someone with to much time check my math). Rb hound??? down boy.

Fish and Chips in Oceanside, Ca.

Good Morning Foodies!!!
One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday or Sunday summer afternoon was to drive down to Malibu, Ca. To Neptune's Net on PCH. Now those of you that are familiar with this place know it will not win any beauty contest but the food was o.k. and the atmosphere was great. Everyone from young families to extroverted bikers and surfers gather there to enjoy the suds, surf and fish and chips. Now that I've moved to Riverside I have learned that Oceanside would be much closer. So my dilema is to find a new fish and chips place in Oceanside along the likes of Neptune's Net to invite my friends for some suds, surf and Fish and Chips. I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Bacon wrapped dog - where to buy dog and bacon?

Actually you may buy these in a four pack from the Super A Markets in Los Angeles. Remeber to grill some onions!!!

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

I belive when you open a place in a market that is already flooded you should want to stand above the rest. this place does not. as a matter of fact i remeber saying that there was no need to return. However, the do have a varied selection of aquas fresca. Which on a warm day can't be beat. And as far as corn tortillas?? LOVE homemade corn tortillas...Thank you.

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

I might get shot at for asking this but here it goes......You mean someone else has a better avocado salsa than Pollo Loco???? This is my guilty pleasure place.

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

Funny thing, Igoodwood, I was in a sandwhich shop(Tortas Sinaloa) after getting off the metrolink the other night and I actually overheard someone say, as they were finishing up with their meal, that they should have gone to Mijo's Tacos. So now that I know where it is I will give it a try. Thank you

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

Thanks for Casa Maya. I've been to the Yucatan Penninsula it's a bit like the Caribe where I come from. One thing I do remeberwere the fresh fish meals I ate. I also tried the Cuban Cafe you suggested. I invited friends in from L.A. the comment I'm about to make would usually garner a slap from my mama when I was a teen.... It didn't suck!! It is way over priced. It is a family operation as noted by the babies running in and out of the kitchen, the Sangria was alright but the food was...mediocre. But as a friend put it, at least there a cuban place in the IE. I'll save my dinero for day trips to Porto's or Versailles in L.A. Thank you for the suggestions.

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

O.K. You twisted my arm hard enough lol. Actually you had me at Carnitas. Glad I was not being a snob when I thought the food was mediocre. It's not just me. My neighbor suggested Alcapulcos.("they have a nice Sunday Brunch") Did I mention HE is Mexican. I've also tried Brandon's in MOVAL but couldn't get past Huevos Rancheros con salsa verde. I know different regions make the same "plata" con different ingredients but this was not to my liking. I do some things to Huevos Ranchero sauce that might make an Abuelita roll over in her grave..but it is good!!! I say stick with law school graduate and then get that taquito truck/ shack that you dream of. I'm going to be here for awhile I could use a good torta!!! THANKS

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

I was in a relationship with a Salvadoran for 7 years. It's wonder my name isn't Big Ben. Absolutely good food but I always preferred the home cooking to what I could find in the restaurants. Panes con pavo??? Pork Tamals??? Yummy!! My Favorite. Thank you mayjay

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

Thank you RB. I really miss good Cuban and will give cuban cafe a try this week. Omakase sounds interesting and I'm somewhat familiar with Mission Inn Ave. Still looking forward to exploring Redlands. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Where can I buy Dutch Process Cocoa Powder????

This is so strange..Please forgive me, but I saw this in Ross(yes dress 4 less) in the home section (in Sierra Madre where the gold line ends) I was looking for a sauce pan and I saw this and thought to myself, "what is this, can I make icing with it". Yes, it was the first time I had seen this and now less than a week later I find someone looking for it. I love the internet!!!

What Area of Italy for Foodie Holiday?

I feel the best food comes from Bologna, Italy. When I was last there I ate at Ristorante Donatello three times. There are wonderful family owned places all over the city. As far as taste is concerned Bologna is the best to me.

DYING OF HUNGER IN THE I.E.

I moved to Riverside four months ago. ToTo we are not in L.A. anymore. I lived in northeast Los Angeles were you could take a walk down the street and eat food from 7 continents. In Riverside not so much. Were is the Cuban,Peruvian or even good Mexican food. Not to mention Crepes or a cupcake shop. I knew I was giving something up by moving to the Burbs but sheesh!! A mans gotta eat..good food! and before suggesting Sevilla..well don't get me started on them!!! Any suggestions???
