Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?
All for the reasons above, but I think they just have some interesting things. Things I've never tried before.
Pearl Onions
I need to make coq au vin tomorrow and am looking for pearl onions anywhere in the cities. In the past few days, I've tried Mississippi Market and the Seward Coop. They can be fresh or frozen.
Mexican Breakfast in Mpls
Sorry, I should have checked it out before I spoke. El Burrito Mercado is opening in the summer at the Midtown Global Market.
Mexican Breakfast in Mpls
My favorite in St. Paul is El Burrito Mercado for breakfast. I think they are opening or already have opened up in Midtown Market. Maybe I'm mistaken.
A more specific Thai question
I love Ruam Mit and especially love their pad Thai. I also love their fish curry. I can't say much about the other items because I order the same thing every time. My friend loves and always orders a shrimp/spinach dish. The atmosphere is OK.
One with a beautiful atmosphere (real flowers at every table) and I've loved everything I ordered on three occasions is Kindee across from the Guthrie.

I want to eat a whole fish
There's a Mexican/Ecuadorian place on W. 7th near Taco Bell that serves a whole fish. I think it's called La Hacienda.
Rye Delicatessen - Minneapolis
I think their poutine with smoked meat is marvelous. If you go during happy hour, it's half price.

Best restaurant in Croatia
chefathome, you are so lucky to have a home in Istria. The Opatija area is one of my favorite places in Europe.
No, I have never eaten at Skalinada because it's only 5 or 6 years old and I lived in Ljubljana and traveled often to Opatija about 10 years ago. But the owner and I were colleagues in Ljubljana. Aleksej and his American wife introduced me to the Slow Food movement back then and took me around Slovenia and Croatia to different Slow Food restaurants. Aleksej also cooked for us on different occasions in their home. They moved to Boston for a few years for work, so Aleksej is very aware of what gluten-free means. Aleksej returned to Istria (his birthplace) and knows all things Istrian. He recently bought land with olive trees and is studying for a degree in farming in addition to running the tavern.
So that's a long answer to a short question. I wish I could get to Croatia and would love to try Skalinada and all the places mentioned on this thread.
Vienna: Need help choosing restaurant - Calling Strumi!
One of my favorite places in Vienna is the Gulashmuseum. It's within walking distance of St. Stephens and could be a nice lunch place.
At the Naschmarkt, I loved getting Doner Kebap at any of the stands.
Best restaurant in Croatia
There's also a small tavern, Skalinada, in Volosko for smaller fare. See
http://www.skalinada.org/
The owner is committed to Slow Food International.
Cacao Nibs
I just saw some at Mississippi Market yesterday. You can check with the coops in the western suburbs.
April Fool's Recipes?
The German ice cream shops create an interesting dish called spaghetti eis.
"Spaghettieis is a German ice cream specialty that looks like a plate of spaghetti." Google it for photos and recipes.
I know this is opposite of what you want, but just in case you want a dessert, I always thought this one was special.
Best Reuben you've had in the Twin Cities?
I had a wonderful reuben yesterday at Gigi's in Minneapolis. Please note that this cafe will have a new name soon.
Penuche- where to find?
Fireside Orchards just outside of Northfield near Hwy. 35. Now that it's no longer apple season, I'm not sure if they're open. I'd give them a call at least.
Trader Joe's February 2012 Fearless Flyer is out
I bought some chocolate cheddar last week and have had small bits each day. I really want to like it because when I am snacking, I'll eat bits of cheese, nuts, and chocolate separately. But I just don't like this product as good as it sounds. I'll finish this off in the next week, but there is little pleasure. Maybe I'll try melting it also.
Best Breakfast Ever - Your Favorites
On Saturday mornings after the St. Paul Farmers Market, I love to go to breakfast at El Burrito Mercado. I love their chorizo and eggs. I usually have that with warm corn tortillas and a dollop of guacamole. I wish I had enough nerve to try their menudo as I see many folks come in for that.
Best Breakfast Ever - Your Favorites
I've been a fan of Bon Vie's eggs benedict for years. But there's another contender across the street now and they might become my favorite. The Cheeky Monkey version is very nice with homemade English muffins, nicely smoked ham and a nice hollandaise. My only complaint is that I would like the muffin to be toasted a little more because it's a little thicker than usual.
Spec. Spices-Fennel Pollen?
Give any of the coops a call. Wedge, Seward, or Mississippi Markets.
Best Reuben you've had in the Twin Cities?
I stopped by Macs this afternoon. Yes, it was definitely the most delicious Reuben i've had in a long time. I liked the rings of fire about a quarter of the way in and then I had to stop. They were far too salty. Don't get them unless you're drinking beer and are very hungry. But that Reuben. Yes.
Authentic, fresh or innovative Mexican food?
My Mexican cousin recommended Rosa Mexicano for an upscale special occasion.
Spanish Chorizo
Mississippi Markets. The brand is the same that you see at the Seward.
The Perfect Baked Potato
For me, here's the ultimate. You can do this only certain times of the year. When the russets first appear at the farmers market, get the smallest ones you can get. I put them in the oven with no fat and bake until very soft in the middle and very crunchy on the outside. I use high temperatures also. I'm sure any of the suggested methods would work.
I think the next time I'll try some of the fats suggested and baste them a couple of times. I do have to wait for that time of year though.
looking for a good birthday cake - St. Paul
I was at Shish for breakfast this morning and viewed (not tasted) the beautiful cakes. The fellow at the counter said they had their own pastry chef.
Breakfast places in Twin Cities
I just had a great breakfast at Shish in St. Paul this morning. They have a lot of interesting possibilities and I plan on going back to try them. I just had gyro and eggs but it just hit the spot.
Dairy Queen Discussion [Split from McDonalds thread]
There's a Dairy Queen in an old bank on the main stree in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I'm not a great DQ fan, but it served in a pinch when I had fast food cravings. A visiting American friend said the Blizzards were exactly the same as in te US.
Best Reuben you've had in the Twin Cities?
The best I've had is at Kaladi's in Hudson, WI.
