Who's still doing great weekend brunch these days?

Need a good restaurant in Santa Monica for date night with my husband.

Fig and Giorgio Baldi are going to be on the pricier side and you will definitely need reservations for both.

I second Riva or even Rustic Canyon and reservations aren't a must at Riva but highly suggested for RC. Ansiette is nice but the place can get SO loud.

Josies is more relaxed, quaint, cozy.

Wakasan in West LA: $35 omakase review w/pics

Great write up!

Wakasan is definitely a must try... but has anyone else found the quality of dishes inconsistent from one day to another?? I know the menu changes constantly but one day its fantastic and another its just inedible.

Rustic Canyon Recommendations?

Oh, how could I forget, I second the burger and it comes with fries! Although I do like burger at Josies better.

Rustic Canyon Recommendations?

Surprisingly good mussels, the broth isn't watery or too thick, well seasoned with a hint of spicy and the mussels are well sized, I'd recommend these with the fries. Also the lamb is recommended and the donuts!

The pastry chef from RC just opened Huckleberry down the block on Wilshire but it does close early.

A miss was the duck rillettes, dry and lacking in quality, especially compared to the other dishes.

Exploring Sawtelle

Hit List:
Orris-nice seasonal menu, tapas dishes
Nambankan (flavors and selection is much better than furiabo)
Mizu- ask for their yuzu sauce!
Bar Hayama - great date spot
Hide sushi - expect to wait. they don't take reservations
Beard papas - strawberry puff is my favorite

Miss List:
Hurry curry
Any of the soon tofu places
Pinkberry
Sawtelle kitchen

I know its not on sawtelle but try Wakasan on westwood

Korean for beginners?

agreed. do not go to bcd even for soon, beverly is a good choice (if you're looking for soon)

a great place to start is Parks BBQ or Soowon, both on Vermont

both locations are "americanized" enough to go for a first time and even with vegetarians and non korean speakers.

chosun... i don't even know where to begin. hamboks are cool and all but you might as well go to gyenari in culver city. i'm not saying the food is bad at chosun, its that the meat marinades and banchans are better at parks and soowon.
