I am looking for someone to cater a small dinner party for my husband's 40th
birthday. Would like to use a catering company or a private chef that comes to
the house. Even better if they can create a tasting menu with a wine tasting to
go with it.

We are in the South Bay.

One of my oldest friends is visiting this weekend from NYC. I want to go out to dinner on Friday night in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood or Santa Monica. We both like all kinds of food, don't mind spending money for a great meal (we care less about the scene) but I'm pregnant so no sushi.

What would you recommend? I don't get out much either (having kids kind of slowed down our eating out :)) so I am having a hard time deciding.

A few of my friends, early to mid 30s women who love good food and wine are looking for a destination for our girls trip next year. It would be great if the place had a spa and outdoor stuff to do. We are coming from all over the country (LA, NYC, DC, and DTW) so a central location is a plus.

It just hit me that my husband and I only have a few weeks before our first child is due and we have not been taking advantage of this time to do things that will be difficult after the baby arrives. We love to go out to eat but we live in the South Bay and don't make it out enough to try the great restaurants in LA.

So, I am looking for your suggestions to must try restaurants. We are willing to drive anywhere and my main request is that it be a restaurant that is not child friendly. There will be plenty of time for those in the future. Since I'm pregnant I would like to stay clear of sushi and steak (it's not the same when you need to order it on the more cooked side).

Price: entrees around the $30-40 range? if it's less, fantastic, more, we can try and squeeze one or two of this in.
