Indian/Pakistani in the Bronx

Apparently Dawaat has closed. Their phone number has been cancelled and directory assistance shows no listing.

Hounding for Butternut Squash/Pumpkin Pasta

If you're willing to go to Manhattan, you can try Trader Joe's on 14th Street at 3rd Avenue, but it's usually only available in the Fall for the obvious reason. You also might try Raffeto's on Houston near MacDougal St.

Mom's Chinese Hot and Sour Soup

I like to add tiger lily buds. which add a more complex taste. Also, top with a small bit of sesame oil over the top before serving!

Crawfish Ettoufee'

Interesting, but I'd miss the distinctive ingredient of the roux.

ARTHUR AVE BRONX

On weekends when all the other joints are packed, Umberto's is quite acceptable. That is to say, it's good enough. and the prices as well.

Wor Bar

I had a somewhat similar experiece at 100 Mott in Chinatown. Their soup dumplings are the best in town by a wide margin, but the rest of the menu is honestly revolting. I had the beef pan fried noodles, and it had no taste. Not a bad taste, but literally no taste. You might as well eat paint chips. And I won't talk about what they did to the eggplant in garlic sauce, because readers might puke.

Wor Bar

Does anyone know where to get this traditional Shanghai dish(sometimes called Sizzling Rice)? It seems to have fallen by the wayside. I've searched the NYC MenuPages website(which only covers Manhattan eateries), and no one has it. I'm in the Bronx and haven't had it since I was actually in Shanghai in '06.

Frozen dumplings - favorites? best place to find them?

The original Fried Dumpling location is on Mosco Street(just past the bend in Mott). In addition to bying top-notch cheap frozen dumplings and Bao, you can sit at the cramped counter and down 5 for a buck and supplement them with some tasty and cheap hot & sour soup! Yum!

Good butchers in Parkchester??

The general meat quality at the local supermarkets is atrocious here. You can't find a decent steak anywhere near here. I don't want to have to go down into Manhattan to feed the need. Any good butchers in the hood? Thanks!

Home Fries

If you want to kick your tastebuds into overdrive, try replacing the butter/oil with bacon fat. Not super healthy(as if butter is), but you're not gonna eat it everyday, right?
