Highland Kitchen - Wonderful!
Many dishes are too salty. Overrated by your average 28 year old yelp fan.

Trina's to open today
Really liked the staff. The food was tasty but we thought the menu was a little spare for a cocktail place -- sandwiches and hot dogs aren't exactly what you're expecting when it looks like a cocktail lounge. I can see they want cheap comfort food but it doesn't match the atmosphere. I'll probably just go back for drinks and eat at ECG.

No. 9 Park
Anyone know if they still have the excellent french fries at the bar at No 9? Not sure if they were on the menu. I ate there years ago and loved it but can't say how it is now... preferred the bar when I lived on Beacon Hill. I go to Drink now more often
Best Salt Substitute?
Penzeys Spices -- Mural of Flavor is a great salt substitute. They have great curry powders if you like that as well
Restaurants everyone seems to love but you don't
Craigie on Main. Food and service was so precious. Tasty but nothing that hasn't been done before -- at least not to match the attitude of the staff.
kid-friendly, outdoors, parking in boston?
Hi chowhounds,
Hoping you can help me out. My roommate from college is flying into boston with her husband and toddler (under 3) and want to meet for lunch on friday somewhere in boston.
They want me to suggest a kid-friendly (possibly outdoor seating) place where they can park the car and then drive out onto 93 south fairly easily to hit the cape
I have no idea since i have no kids. Any ideas?
thanks!
What's all the fuss about Jose's in Cambridge?
I've been there several times because friends want to go... I think the appeal is that it has easy parking, it's not that expensive and decor/atmosphere seems fun. The food itself is pretty mediocre and I thought too salty. Ole has much better food/margaritas but seems a little too serious.
Holiday afternoon cocktail UWS
Hi all
Me and my friend want to take our moms out for a posh cocktail sat afternoon. Any ideas of something decadent for a holiday/birthday drink on upper west side or near metropolitan art museum.
Cambridge Pizza?
I like both armandos and pinocchios for the kind of pizza I used to eat in high school in NJ. Nothing fancy but really good. I also like Cambridge One -- very tasty but order one at a time -- they get cold since they're so thin. Never a big fan of Emmas - if I want yuppie pizza, I like Figs better.
garden at the cellar friday?
I just went last Sunday evening with two friends.. totally empty. I thought it was great...simple, tasty food that's better than average and affordable enough to be a regular haunt. However, bad decor doesn't really match the quality of the food.
Myers & Chang
I went last night with a friend. We liked the concept -- little plates of chinese food. Food is ok -- what we tasted. I think the menu is unclear-- we couldn't tell how many plates to order and if we needed rice with some. Personally, I just hate the restaurant trend of wait staff telling me how to order... I'm not 10. Here's what we ordered: braised pork belly buns (eh...pork was good, but we felt too big for a starter); chicken lettuce wraps (nothing special... could have been PF Changs); dan dan noodle salad (excellent... our favorite -- lots of lime and spice) and we really wanted to try the yellow chive pancake with
chinese sausage but they brought out the scallion pancakes and told us it was the pancakes which I think wasn't intentional but still we didn't really order that. That said, scallion pancakes were tasty -- better than normal. I like the hopping, open kitchen atmosphere but others might find the music too loud to talk... it's more a fun, quick bite before you head out. I'll be back to try out some of the other little plates. We also have a pretty good bottle of wine that didn't set us back too much either. No dessert if you're looking for that... I don't think you need it. Anyway we intend to go back to try more little plates...
A couple of Beehive impressions
I went last night after having dinner in the South End with two friends... I thought it was excellent for an end of the night drink and some live tunes. Great crowd and really nice atmosphere. I don't really care if the food is good/bad, cheap/expensive -- there should be more bars like this open in downtown Boston. I really hope they make it and don't turn into yet another steak house.
Nic-a-boli
I used to work there during college summers and my standing order was no beef, sausage, sweet peppers and onions. The owners are crazy but fun -- say hi to Joan at the door!
It's cold... I'm craving noodle soup take-out
Porter Square is perfect... I'm dying for Udon noodles and I haven't been there for years.
It's cold... I'm craving noodle soup take-out
I'm hoping for suggestions in the Cambridge, Somerville, Allston areas... don't feel like driving to Chinatown to pick up my usual roast pork soup with dumplings from Hong Kong Eatery.
Any ideas, fellow Chows?
new place in Central Square Cambridge
My friend and i thought the low bar was kind of silly... especially when the bar fills up, it's like you're at the kiddie table ;-)
disappointed by new Darwin's on Cambridge St.
I've been to both numerous times and I don't think I've seen worse service. I don't care so much that they're disorganized -- although really, how difficult is it to kick out some sandwiches? Rather, it's the utter disdain most of the young staff displays to the customers on a regular basis.
I hear there's a new sandwich place in Inman... not far from the Cambridge Street location of Darwins so maybe a little competition?
