Client worthy seafood lunch near Convention Center?

Thank you everyone! I got stuck in a training for 2 days and never got to come back. It's an ad agency client Ive never met before - not my plumber! I had no idea Yankee was a counter when I asked - it just kept coming up again and again as a highly rated place.

Daily Catch would be OK if they took credit cards.

I'm sort of known for my restaurant picks in my industry and most clients are willing to travel to get to them, but this guy wanted something near the convention center.

There are some great options above. Thanks again.

Client worthy seafood lunch near Convention Center?

Thanks - I just noticed there are 2! Havent been in Boston since 2000 and I was picturing the one by the Prudential Center, when in fact it's the Boston Convention Center near the waterfront. Has anyone been to Yankee Lobster recently?

Client worthy seafood lunch near Convention Center?

Does anyone have a great lunch suggestion for a new (but relaxed) client meeting on a Monday in October near the convention center? I prefer something short walking distance, or I would be booking Island Creek. The client loves seafood.

Any ideas other than Legal Seafoods?

Are there decent peaches anywhere?

The peaches at the Union Square farmer's market have been excellent. Not sure what the farm is called - Ive only been going to that stand for 10+ years. Its sort of facing the Coffee Shop - they have all sorts of pies/turnovers in addition to peaches and apples.

Last Saturday as I was picking out my peaches, a woman next to me was roughly handling them and proclaimed "these dont smell peachey enough for me" as she left. I dont care what they smell like - they're wonderful, juicy and plenty peachy to me. They have excellent white peaches and doughnut peaches too.

A thumbs up for Trader Joe's in Chelsea

I agree! I was there last night, and the line was curving around to the back for the first time since Ive been there (almost daily since it opened) - and it moves so much faster! Unfortunately I was stuck for the longest time next to the boxes of Tarte Tatin, but restrained myself.

Birthday in Paris

Well, I can tell you where Im going for my major birthday... Atelier de Joel Robuchon for lunch. Actually, Im going to Reims on the actual day and cant fit Les Crayeres in between Champagne tastings, so Atelier is the next day.

Chicken Reduction in Manhattan?

Ive wanted to make Scott Conant's creamy polenta with mushrooms forever, but am not ambitious enough to make stock, let alone "reduction."

Does anyone know where I can find Chicken Reduction in Manhattan? Or subway friendly destination in Brooklyn or Queens? Want to take advantage of those gorgeous mushrooms at Eately and finally make this!

Rhong Tiam Express

I cant wait to go back for the Kao Soi! Had the slider and the chicken/shrimp dumplings. Nothing special and way overpriced. Thai Taste on 7th and 22nd does decent Kao Soi so this better be good!

Another Etiquette Question -- Confirming Reservations in Paris

Atelier de Joel Robuchon emailed me that due to high volume of no shows, I have to confirm the day before. The parents once lost an Astrance reservation when they were out of the hotel for the moment the restaurant called to confirm. As a result, Im fine making the call!

Marais, but with a twist?

I'll 3rd Chez Janou.

Another place Ive been going to regularly since 1989 is Pom Cannale (not exactly sure how to spell it, but any variation seems to come up on google) on Ile St Louis - which to this fast walking NYer is probably 20 minutes from Place des Vosges. I always get a quiche, salad and Berthillon but a friend who was just there said it was the best boeuf Bourginion (sic?) of her life. Very untouristy for the Ile - its mostly large groups of French coworkers at lunch.

I also like Auberge de Jarente on the Rue de Jarente near Place du Marche St Catherine.

And, on my last trip, I went to St Paul on Rue St Antoine with some French friends (who refused to go anywhere where there could be an American) - its no Michelin level place, but they had great magret du canard.

And, L'As is always good for a quick stop if you're in the mood for falafel

What Chow Gal said. Tia Pol, El Quinto Pino and Txikito are my best recos. Socarrat tapas is OK, but the paella is greasssssy! I hate Bocqueria, but that's due to a snooty server the first time I went soon after they opened and I havent been back ever. I know, silly reason - she's probably long gone, but the tiny pour was what prompted her snootiness and Im sure that hasnt changed. Casa Mono is also very good, but can be smokey due to the open kitchen

Scarpetta

Every time I go to Scarpetta (and L'impero and Alto before there was a Scarpetta) i get the polenta and the spaghetti and call it a day, so dont care if they ever change their menu. In fact, I hope they dont because as many times as Ive tried to replicate the tomato sauce at home - I cant and I'm glad I can always get it at Scarpetta!

Dhaba in Curry Hill

This is my favorite Indian in NYC (other than Dawat)... But, I've never gotten the buffet. The baigan bartha - my standard dish that I judge all Indian restaurants by - is excellent at Dhaba. Anyone I bring there - even people who claim they dont like Indian - love it.

"Chiquito pero Peligroso":El Tizoncito,DF,the birth place of tacos al pastor

I love Califa and El Tiz, but thought Puebla was the original home of tacos al pastor... 2 wks from today I'll be scarfing them down!

Mexico City - Four Day Visit - Suggestions/Thoughts?

I love Califa! And, Im usually the only gringa there.

Another good place for tacos al pastor, etc is El Tizoncito on Tamalipas (there is another El Tizoncito on the side street that is good if the one on Tamalipas is packed.

And C25 on the street that sort of merges with Culiacan near Park Amsterdam is excellent. Across from the Red Tree House Hotel. Probably the best meal I've had in DF and it would be a weekly spot if it was in NYC.

I could eat tacos al pastor every meal, but if you want the stewed meat/vegetable style of tacos - Hola tacos on Michoacan at Amsterdam(?) - again, I was the only non-local at this place. Gets packed!

Who Do You Think Makes The Best Caramels/Chocolates in NYC?

the milk chocolate pig candy at Roni-Sue's is amazing!!!!

I am still kicking myself for not starting a caramel au beurre sale importing business after I got back from Paris 2 years ago - you couldnt find them anywhere here...(only the basket place in Chelsea Market had them - marked down because I was the only one buying them) And, suddenly, they're hot!

El Tabano -- Tulum, Q. Roo

Thank you! I'm a little more than a month from my trip, and think this is walking distance to my hotel (I wont have a car until my last night, before I head south).

Heard about it, but its great to get a first hand reco from a chowhound.

Have you been to Que Fresco at Zamas? People rave about it, but who knows what sort of taste they have...

Baoguette, curry hill

I've been to this place several times since it opened, and always end up removing jalapenos - the sandwiches I get are packed with them! So glad to have this in the sort of neighborhood! No more schlepping to Chinatown just for a sandwich!

I always get the Baogette.

I loved Pelicano - probably ate there 5 of the 8 nights I was in P.M. I havent been in years, but there was a more upscale restaurant that had reknowned Sunday BBQ- cant think of the name. Not that I am suggesting the BBQ - just hoping maybe Veggo will recognize it from that?

Yaxche was great - but I havent been there in years either - unless they expanded it, you'd basically be taking over the whole place - its pretty small.

Bangkok Chow Report (long)

Thank you! I've printed this out for my upcoming trip!

That Chote Chitr must have some publicist! Its mentioned everywhere.

Caribbean Island with excellent French Food.

but, if you plan to get on that ferry - take Dramamine/Bonine... You can also fly in 10 minutes.

St Barth is the best! I've never had a bad meal there, but the parents live there so I know where to go.

Caramels au buerre sale'???

Yes candy. The "expert" at the Dean & Deluca candy counter told me to try a drug store or Hallmark! Clearly she doesnt know what they are... Thanks for the Eli's suggestion. I also thought of Dylan's, but havent made it over yet...

Ed's Lobster Bar in SoHo

So either I have really pedestrian taste, or things are better at lunch!

Was in the neighborhood Saturday, so tried it instead of heading downtown for a bahn mi - and have been raving about it since. I didnt want the lobster roll to end. A lot less mayo than Pearl - I thought it was significantly better, if a bit smaller.

I sat at the bar, and the server was excellent. A couple of very budget-minded tourists came in and she was incredibly patient with them. They had the salted cod on ciabatta that looked pretty good from where I was sitting.

Even if Grumpys isnt having a tasting, you may want to stop by. Their knowledge of coffee, and that cool Clover machine make it worth a trip.
