That's what I'm talking about! Thanks Jen. Pardon the side talk about destinations, kind of a rookie to this board. That being said, and to not waste any more of your time, I'll start checking previous threads on Montalcino, Orvieto, Siena, etc. and come back with some narrowed down restaurants! :)

Thank you. All the reason why this may help me eliminate a few spots. I've done the major touristy places before...Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, and Pisa. Avoiding large cities and focusing on smaller towns is my goal, while at the same time hitting up some of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna's jewels.

I was recently informed of a town called Pitigliano, which would take me through the scenic route from Rome to Siena and traverses Montalcino and Val d'Orcia. Has anyone experience this route? Suggestions?

Jan 2 - Drive from Rome to Siena (overnight stay in Siena)
Jan 3 - Drive from Siena to Bologna (2 nights in Bologna)
Jan 4 - Day trip to Parma
Jan 5 - Drive from Bologna to Venice.

I'm trying to plan the days as leisurely as possible (it is vacation after all) which is why I wanted to stop off at some good locations between cities.

Hey everyone. I'm going to be spending the New Year in Rome then making my way up to Venice for my flight out. I'm not very worried about the beginning and end, but the MIDDLE! All in all, we'll be spending 4 days making our way to Venice. We will be doing 2 days in the Tuscan countryside with an overnight stop in Siena. Also, 2 nights in Bologna with a day trip to Parma.

Here's what I need to know...

Best food recommendations between Rome and Siena
...between Siena and Bologna
...between Bologna and Venice

It can be off the beaten path, but don't want to stray to far considering our tight schedule. Following the map, here are some towns along the road, Rome to Bologna...

Cuban Sandwich

Larios by Sunset Place isn't bad, but by far the best Cuban Sandwich I've had in Miami is at Little Havana Restaurant on Biscayne and 127th. They actually use chunks of pierna (pork) instead of that sliced supermarket meat that everyone else uses.

Looking for local foods in Miami

Chef Allen's in Aventura is well known for using a lot of the local seasonal produce on his menu. Casablanca is also very good for the local seafood such as snapper, grouper, and mahi.

For fresh produce just drive up and down Chrome Ave between 152nd St and 312th St. Dozens of food stands sprawled up and down the avenue with all the fresh picks of the day...a lot of U Pick spots too.

4 nights in Miami--please help

1. Senora Martinez (Hands down best Spanish food in Miami)
2. Joe's (staple), but I would also consider La Dorada or Baleen's for seafood.
3. Ortanique on the Mile
4. Michy's (I'm in love with Michelle Bernstein!! LOL)

If you've never visited Miami before you need to make room for pastelitos and croquetas in the morning.

bringing sausages/ham into us

Can't say that's always the case...I've traveled many times to Europe, specifically Spain and have only been searched once. Unfortunately that once they found one of my chorizos...but they didn't get the other haha!!! Anyways, if you get the sausage, cut it in half and double vacuum seal it and put them in separate bags at the bottom (not in the middle) worst thing is they take it away from you.

Dim Sum in Miami?

Most definitely Casablanca...located right on the river, the boats pull in there each morning with the fresh catch. Snapper (all kinds), Mahi, Kingfish, and Grouper are some of the usuals as well as all mollusks and crustaceans.
