Flour by Joanne Chang

i had her coconut macaroons at flour in boston. they were to. die. for. i immediately bought the cookbook and have made a quadruple batch at least every other month for a couple of years now. :) they are a family (and neighborhood!) favorite!!!

B&G Oysters - Are you kidding me!?

i am so happy to have found your review! we (me and my 11 year old) saw b&g's lobster roll on a tv show we were watching on netflix. since we are headed to boston this summer (from florida) we are making a food map and my daughter wanted to add this place. she's asked at least 5 times if it is on the list.
our search for a good lobster roll will continue. :) thanks!

What new food, ingredient, or recipe have you tried recently?

i recently tried a recipe for barbacoa off of the crumblycookie.net blog. i hadn't tried it before even though i make 12 qts of salsa a month and we have tacos 30 ways each month. ;) anyways, the barbacoa was amazing! but what i REALLY loved was the suggestion to put pickled onions on the tacos! i'm not sure i will ever serve mexican food again without these little strips of yumminess!

Your family favorite black eyed peas recipes?

with our leftovers, i drop them in the cuisinart, add some creamed cheese, season the result and serve as a dip the next sunday for the football game.
sad that we won't be enjoying them for while watching the dolphins. :(

I didn't rinse the brine. Mistake?

i forgot to rinse my 22 lb turkey on thanksgiving and it wasn't salty at all. i brined for 24 hours, dried for 24 hours then loaded under the skin with herbed butter. and the butter had salt. so much to do and a sick family, i just completely forgot. i think you should be fine. :) good luck!

perky jerky?

earlier this year i started making jerky. in fact, it is better due to the help of other chowhounds. but now i want to try making our FAVORITE jerky that we don't have very often as it is quite expensive.

has anyone tried to crack the perky jerky recipe? my research notes are soy, brown sugar, lemon juice, garlic, pepper, worcestershire and guarana. i have even located the nearest brazilian market to buy and try guarana soda.

any advice would be appreciated!

and... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

and for what it is worth, i use cook's illustrated's gravy. mmmm.

menu planning around lobster mac and cheese

this is one of my most favorite salads! it has a roasted cherry tomato vinaigrette (SO GOOD!!!) and i roast lots of extras to toss with the greens. i also add avocado and heart of palm. i think the recipe also calls for goat cheese which i of course add. :)

in search of a recipe for the spice seasoning from "Hot n' Juicy"

ok. i watched your video which led me to the man v. food video which led me back to the comments on your video which led me to THIS video. (i never take shortcuts. haha!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbU81n...

however, i would 100% add the broth from the boil to the sauce. it is surprising that he didn't.

in search of a recipe for the spice seasoning from "Hot n' Juicy"

if you happen to live by one of the Hot n' Juicys, GO!!!! truly, it was amazing. it is one of those meals that will put you into a happiness coma.
i had read some of the recipes online but i just wasn't sure if it could be that simple... boil, then steam in bag with butter, cajun seasoning and garlic. maybe i will give it a test run with my daughters tomorrow for lunch. and then light every candle in the house to conceal our culinary endeavor. haha! :)
thanks for the video!!!

in search of a recipe for the spice seasoning from "Hot n' Juicy"

my hubby LOVES the crawfish at Hot n' Juicy. but last time we went, our bill was almost $200 for 6 people. and i easily could have eaten more. ;) so for father's day, i thought i would do a shrimp boil and try to find the recipe for that incredible sauce they call "Hot n' Juicy". haha! i know it is a mixture of their cajun and their garlic sauces, but could it possibly be as simple as mixing cajun seasoning, garlic and butter? also, do you suppose it is cooked in the bag, a la sous vide, or do you think it is just tossed in the sauce at the end?
thanks a million!

Anyone have an interesting take on black-eyed peas?

As per tradition, tomorrow we will serve black-eyed peas. Last year, I made "Garlicky Black Pepper Shrimp and Black-eyed Peas", but this year, my hubby wants something different.
Does anyone have a recipe that is a little bit of a different take on the traditional?
Thanks!

Mess o' Jalapeno

i would halve, seed, stuff with a cream cheese artichoke dip and then bake. i make these all the time to rave reviews.
the artichoke dip is a brick of cream cheese, a can of artichokes, a clove (or 4) of garlic, 1/2 cup or so mayo, T or so dill, couple of dashes each of worcestershire and tobasco and about a 1/2 cup of parm. so yummy!!!
