Pawpaw / paupau fruits

I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan. I'm willing to travel as far as the city limits to visit a market that I know has them regularly, at least when in season. I was planning to make a gift of them to someone into uncommon fruits and try one for myself. JMF, the first site you mention is interesting--do you think the vendor could ship them without too much damage to the fruits?

Fresh Passion Fruit in Queens?

Have you seen passion fruits in other places around the city, like Manhattan or Brooklyn? Queens Boulevard is a bit far for me to check on a regular basis.

Pawpaw / paupau fruits

I'm definitely looking for the North American fruit that tastes like vanilla custard and bruises too easily and not papayas. It's possible my co-worker was thinking of papayas as well, as he spelled it paupau, so I'm sorry for the confusion.

Pawpaw / paupau fruits

Please help me out! I'm looking for pawpaw, or paupau fruits. My co-worker tells me he finds them at Korean groceries in Brooklyn, although he can't recall any particular one.

Would anyone know where specifically I can find them at this time of year? Is there a better time when they're in season?

Creating an Outer Boroughs Sticky - Your Feedback

Yeah, being from Brooklyn, I feel like this is a dis; like if you're not in Manhattan, you're not part of NYC.

What's also bothersome is now I have to comb multiple boards on one site to find what I'm looking for and post to multiples as well. My boyfriend is in Manhattan, I'm in Brooklyn. Like I won't cross a river to try some new market or restaurant? If something great is just off the PATH train in NJ or over in Nassau or Westchester, we'll never know.

C'mon, Chowhound, foodies go the distance.

Reindeer or caribou in NYC?

Hello all!

I know it's December and all, and I'm not trying to be ironic or a grinch with this request. You see, me and mine are kind of tired of the same holiday meals, and I thought it would be fun to try something exotic--specifically reindeer/caribou.

I'd prefer to get it somewhere fresh rather than go online and order frozen reindeer steaks, and I'm not one for hunting. So do any of you out there know where I can, um, get my game on in New York City?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Arkansas Black Apples - New York City

Such a big help to me--thank you. I'm hoping to make a gift basket of them to my boyfriend, who is becoming an apple variety enthusist. He thanks you, too.

Arkansas Black Apples - New York City

Thanks, both of you, for your tips. I will go to both markets. When do you think the apples will come into season: another week or two, or should I wait until November?

Flaxseed recipes?

Yes, indeed, it's the same seeds. How did the recipes turn out?

Arkansas Black Apples - New York City

Does anyone know where in the NYC area one can buy apples specifically of the Arkansas black variety?
Perhaps a specific farmer's market?
If there's not a place here, where can I buy them on the Internet?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Another food to consider that's vegan and rich in Omega-3 fats is chia seed. I found it works very well in tomato sauce, salsas, etc. Also, it has the appearance and (kind of) the taste of poppy seeds, so think bagels and bread crusts. But be warned: I've tried it in cereal with milk, and the texture was awful because of the way chia turns gummy in water-based liquids (like tapioca). Maybe it would work in oatmeal.

Check out Wikipedia's page on Omega-3 fatty acid, where there are lists of all kinds of foods rich in this stuff, including plant sources.
