Kitchen Nightmares heads to Galleria 33
I've always had pretty decent meals at Galleria 33, I'm a little surprised. The service was a little tense, but I did not get the impression the restaurant was KN material. It makes me wonder what was going on behind the scenes? Restaurant was always packed too - never empty!
Places to get good Seafood in MA, NH, or Maine coasts?
Fishermans catch in Wells, Maine
Kens Seafood in Scarborough, Maine
Beach Plum something or other in North Hampton NH
Clam Box, Ipswich Mass
As far as coastal NH, Als/Peteys/Beach Plum et al. are ALL tourist traps, but decent.
Kennebunk Maine - Nunan's lobster Hut
Kennebunkport / Cape Porpoise Chowder House *we LOVED this place. We were the only out of towners and discovred it by accident, it is at the end of a road on the water, you sit on the deck and watch the boats go by...excellent seafood!
Need North End Restaurant for visiting parents and awful toddler
I would say NO WAY to Giacomo's - there is NO ROOM for a little one to even think about moving around a bit there, unless someone wants to take them out onto Hanover and run about. I second the rec for La Summa. There is always plenty of room in there (not ever crowded) the food is good and you feel like you are in your Nonni's living room. Go up Hanover to Fleet on the right and head to La Summa.
Gluttonous Chinatown brunch tomorrow
This may seem like an odd question, but I concur about China Pearl's restroom - yuck. What Chinatown establishments that you know of have clean, fresh as a rose restrooms? It is important to me when dining out...
Chinatown - xmas eve
I have read through hundereds, if not a thousand chinatown entries from 2007-present. We are headed to Chinatown for xmas eve for the second time. Last year we tried New Jumbo and we liked it. Looking for the same vibe this year. We have someone who is claustrophobic so a basement restaurant will not work...unfortunately. Restrooms must be clean too! What we loved about New Jumbo was we were surrounded by families all having enormous feasts of all kinds, we weren't rushed (we went early before 5) and the food was tasty. The fish in the very cloudy tank as others have said did not look very appetizing, but everything we ordered (some seafood) was delish. We live northwest of 495 (in the boondocks) and just loved the Chinatown vibe and loved our kids experiencing it.
Thanks in advance!
Wegmans to Open on Sunday, 16 October
Went to Wegmans this morning at 7AM. Perect time to go as we could really browse. Prepared food is 8.99/lb (comparable to WF). There were reasonable meal prices (6/8/10) prepared with sides, and subs and pizza and the bakery was amazing. This being said, I still was not that excited about it. Had it been a STEW LEONARDS opening, I would have been beside myself. Stews is hands down the best grocery store I have ever been in. Love the one in Brookfield/Danbury CT.
Summer Shack (Alewife) Again
Headed out to the Summer Shack as were were already in Lexington, and craving seafood.
We deeply regretted it as it was not cheap ($23 for Fried Clams). We knew what to expect as far as price but the quality was just plain poor. We would've done better I feel at the Prime Roast Beef & Seafood in Lexington for much less dough. Surf and Turf ($25) was a big let down for my husband...no taste lobster and flavorless, too rare (strange I know) very chewy steak tips. Fried Clams were mushy, VERY sandy and dripping in grease. Kids both had Florida Tiger Shrimp, this was ok but not at $18 a pop....The highlight of the evening was the Toll House Pie, although it was missing ice cream and came with a dollop of fresh from the can whipped cream....

ARE THERE COUNTERFEIT ALL-CLAD PRODUCTS OUT THERE?
They seem a heck of a lot lighter to me.
ARE THERE COUNTERFEIT ALL-CLAD PRODUCTS OUT THERE?
Yes, there are knock-off Al Clad all over the internet. My sister bought some and yeah saved some $$ but it is very much like buying a knock off Chanel purse -- looks okay until you touch it, examine it closely.
Here's a tip for what is is worth: I bought the "Emeril by All Clad" pans and LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Check them out at any department store, they say right on the box they are made my All Clad and I absolutely love them and got a set for probably a third it would have cost for AC.
Murray Hill Restaurant Needed for Group Dinner
We stayed at the Murray Hill Shelburne too. We walked to Trattoria Alba on E. 34th (very short walk from the hotel), and I highly recommend it. The night we dined there, there was a wedding shower dinner going on of about 20 women (near the front of the restaurant). I also noticed in the back there appeared to be a private garden style room of some sorts. The food was excellent and out of all the reviews I have read, (here, and on yelp and others) the food and service gets high marks. I think you could eat here for well under your budget per person.
We were the ONLY guests that night from out of town, it was all locals there and the place was pretty full on a Tuesday night. I can't stay enough about it....
Help please for family friendly ($$-$$$)
I agree - Scotty's is the nicest diner on Lexington. It'll be my first stop next time in NYC

And, while I'm on topic of Murray Hill, family friendly, great places - I must say that Scotty's Diner was FABULOUS. Scotty's is priced fairly, clean as a whistle, the service is efficient and top notch. We watched the cooks and they are so well organized, two guys working together totally in sync getting orders out quickly. I will go back there too!

I had the chicken sauteed with fresh garlic slivers, broccoli rabe, a little cherry tomato, italian sausage slices, in a white wine/garlicy light sauce that was delish!! I can't wait to get back and try the pizza and salad. The couple behind us had wine, pizza and salad and it looked amazing. My husband and son swear the chicken parm was the best they ever had. We've tried chicken parm in just about every Boston North End restaurant and they said this blew it all away! FYI: they were very accomodating to my daughter who is a picky eater and got plain spaghetti with sauce on the side. TERRIFIC red sauce.

We ended up at Trattoria Alba and loved it. From beginning to end it was perfect. When we arrived the place was probably a third full and by the time we left at 8:30'ish it was packed. Not bad for a Monday night...

We are Law and Order fans (especially my daughter) sounds great! Thanks to all.

Thank you for the replies. We will try both 2nd and Sarge's for sure. Thanks for the photo! Looks outstanding. Sounds like there are plenty of options right in the neighborhood. All of the recommendations sound just perfect!

Hi:
We are taking our kids to NYC for three days...we are staying at the Affinia Shelburne in Murray Hill (Lexington and 37th (?). Need suggestions for family friendly places (pretty casual) that we could walk to (or subway - we plan to try it for the first time!). One kid is picky but will eat Chinese (americanized). I have searched posts and do have a list but would love some new suggestions. We want to try a NY pastrami, some good italian, some chinese, hot dogs).
We only have one thing planned at it is the Natural History Museum, so I thought we'd try a burger from the Shake Shack across the street. I wanted to try Tony's DiNapoli based on previous suggestions - feedback? My kids are good walkers and so long as the weather is ok, we plan to do a lot of walking around.
Thank you so much in advance!

Evelys drive in....a little piece of Rhode Island rip off
We have family that moved to the area the year Evelyn's re-opened (I think they had a fire?) it has been almost 4 years and nothing has changed (other than prices get higher - food remains poor IMO). My opinion only is that they are not too interested in any reviews that may be on Chowhound, only making as much $$$ during the season, as long as people continue to pay those prices. For what it is worth, when lobster was (still is in Maine) very reasonable priced, Evelyn's was charging $26 per roll for again in my opinion, poor product.
Like I said before, head to the Goose up the road or a delish sandwich, a great coffee at Coastal Roasters, or head to the Commons Lunch in Little Compton for real fresh tasty seafood (you can even sit outside)!
Evelys drive in....a little piece of Rhode Island rip off
Ditto, what I'm hungry said.
Poor quality (i,.e. frozen) over priced and old oil more than not...
problem is, there isn't much in the immediate area of Evelyn's, so people settle.
Keep driving to the Black Goose Cafe for a delish sandwich (the gobbler is YUMMY) and prices are reasonable.
Evelys drive in....a little piece of Rhode Island rip off
We have family in the area and when they moved there, we were so excited to try Evelyn's. Biggest ripoff and poor food (in my opinion) for miles. Way overpriced for sure. Not surprised to hear the cod is frozen, I bet most of the food is.
Do yourself a favor and continue on down the road to the Commons Lunch in Little Compton. always FRESH seafood, chowder and others. Not water-Riverfront rather like Evenlyn, but the food makes up for it.
Fisherman's Feast - North End this weekend
We attended our first feast last weekend (while heading to dinner walked through it rather). Any thoughts on this feast coming up? Is the vendors food worth trying? I have to say that the fried calamari last weekend (based on looks alone) looked and smelled great coming from one of the vendors. Calzones too looked tasty. There were various pasta dishes available too that did look good and probably alot cheaper than what we paid to sit down and eat!!!!
delivery for sick friend in leominster
I could be wrong, but the only place I know other than pizza joints and such in that area is "Gold Bowl" -- it is decent chinese fyi. They have a menu online too, www.goldbowl8.com. Maye Paisano's delivers as well? (pizza/pasta/italian - better than usual pizza joint)
My own private North End -- a report
We ate at Lucia's last night. In a nutshell, pretty poor service, and mediocre food, as this North End report concurs. Our server was clearly disappointed we had kids (three 12 year old and an 8 year old who were quiter than most of the diners in the restaurant), he refused to take their drink orders until we ordered food. Oddly, he came right over within seconds of us sitting down and took orders from adults for drinks, and stated he would get the kids later. Okay we thought, when he brings ours he will ask the kids. Wrong. We tried to order them drinks and he loudly exclaimed that "I will get the kids orders all together when you order food!" Strange. We were informed this restaurant was family friendly by several dining sites, it couldn't be more wrong unless it was just an off night.
Portions: pathetic for the price - except for one swordfish entree that was acceptable. The pasta that accomponied traditional italian fair came in one of those tiny bowls you get some of your toppings like ketchup and/or sides of vegetables in places like Dennys. We were not looking for a pound of pasta like some places will serve, just enough to add to the entree. Again, it came in a jell-o bowl from the super buffet...
Price: WAY overpriced. The bill for a small caprese salad, fried calamari (app.), two sides of gnocchi and one chicken parm, plus the swordfish and two chicken dishes that anywhere else would have been 14-15, and lastly the lobster ravioli (about 8 of them that looked prev. frozen) and ONE bottle of wine (that would be in the bargain bin at the wine-store for 9.99) was $310.00 - that included 4 sodas. We weren't looking for a bargain, we were game to try something new in the North End. This was highway robbery and we won't be back. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the $8.50 lemon sorbet (at Trader joes you can get 4 for $5) that had a slimy black hair in it....
Best Chicken Salad Sandwich in Boston
If you like Roche Bros. Chicken Salad then I have great news for you. I once was getting a pound and they needed to open a new container. It was "Hans Kistle" brand, and they sell it at your local BJ's Wholesale in white or dark meat!!!!
Evelyns in Tiverton
I have been to Evelyns several times this summer. Didn't care for it at all. Each time was worse than the other...Was really optimistic after hearing about it on this board however in my opinion didn't live up to the hype. All of the fried food tasted the same, and whatever they use for for frying has a funny after taste. Can't beat the location though, however, parking is horrendous if they are busy. You get stuck parking on the street with not much space on the side of the road to park.
Has anyone ate at the Nordstrom's Cafe?
The Nordstrom Cafe is the best hidden jewel at the Providence Place Mall. Although you order your food cafeteria style, it is much better than a cafeteria!
There are tables and booths with outstanding views of Providence. Glass dishes and barware are used with real silverware. It's a nice treat after shopping!
The Devens Grille?
Devens Grill is a cute little place at the re-vamped Fort Devens. The "Commons Center" where it is located it beautiful, there is a nice community feeling going on there. We have visited twice for lunch, and it was okay, nothing spectacular but good food. I would recommend it, and go while the weather is still nice and you can sit outside!
