eSavoy Bar/Lounge- Flatbush Ave, BK

Heeeellllllo!

I wanted to know if the eSavoy Lounge is any good? I've passed it, and wondered, but haven't had time to go in. I wanted to make arrangements for a small birthday bar party for "the hubbie" on a Thursday night...

Or any others suggestions? Some other place in BK easily accessible by car (from long island), or train from the city? (preferably in that viciinity)...

thank yooooou!!

Queens Restaurant Week Recommendations

I know a few restaurant owners in Queens and they told me it can go either way. Some people get the fliers for it, but if they don't they can contact the organization and ask to become part of it.

Someone told me they attended a wedding at Water's Edge (in LIC) and it was good. Does anyone else have any experience there? What day to go and what to eat!?! Thanks!

Elias Corner, Astoria

I haven't gone in an extremely long time, but you should try it and let us know! :)

For fish, I've gone to Demetri's on Broadway- I love it there- and Taverna Kyklades is very good as well-- very busy place though. (SO you should probably avoid it if you don't like noise and crowds..)

southern cooked meal!

Recently went to New Orleans and fell in love with the "blackened" food concept. (Especially blackened red fish)!! Any places that do this well (in NYC or in Queens/BK)? Thanks!

Any restaurants worth visiting in the Kings Plaza/Flatbush area (BK)?

So I've been going back and forth to Brooklyn- Flatbush/Kings Plaza for the past 4 years... and I must admit- the food selection there SUCKS. The place near by that we frequent is "Fivo's Diner," but as for restaurants, I haven't come across any. Fivo's is pretty good, but I can't eat there so many times a week. Any ideas? I need good food! Thanksss!

Late night drinks during the week

just heard about this new place called winegasm- on 37th street between 31st ave and broadway. Sounds very interesting- they're doing their "soft opening" on Saturday. They don't list times on their websites, but it looks worth checking out when it really opens.

Use restaurant week to get into hard to get into places...

thanks for that great pointer!

but then again restaurant week makes it harder to get into those restaurants that we want to go to and can now afford.... :(

Decent restaurants on Union Turnpike near St John's?

I had their salmon a while back and it wasn't bad. I asked the guy if it was fresh and he said "of course"- so I went for it. Nothing spectacular, but not bad at all..

New Astoria chocolate/coffee shop just opened

31st ave? or 31st street? I was reading about it, but the address was 37-03 31st street, and it said to be a brazilian cafe (and not near steinway). Is this the same one?

Where to go after the Museum of the Moving Image?

Went to Taste of Thai and we loved it. I highly recommend it- I had the chicken pineapple fried rice, and a nice chicken soup. Both were amazing. For dessert- we had the fried ice cream- absolutely amaaaazing! We loved it! and they brought it flambeed to our table!! woooow.Everything was great- so was the service!
The only thing I didn't like was the "american" music playing in the background- Shakira, Britney Spears, and such. I recommended to the manager, that they put something a little more... Thai? It was still a verrrrry pelasant experience, and I will be going back there soooon!

Good chow around St. John's University?

I've also always enjoyed Yummy Taco- of course, it's not amazing quality food- and probably not "dinner" worthy, but it is very good (tasting) for tacos and especially the chicken over mexican rice. Very yummy and verrrry cheap. their number is 718-591-5521 (I have all these numbers stored for a rainy day!)

There's also an Italian place in the middle of that block- maybe next to Yummy Taco- or the next block? I can't remember-- but their food is very good too. We went there to watch a football game on a Monday night- and they had good finger food. Again, it wasn't "dinner" worthy, but these are some options you could keep in mind.

OHH and how could I forget? The Sly Fox is very good for dinner and the staff is very friendly

Good chow around St. John's University?

I always liked Regina's Cafe- on the corner of Utopia and Union. You might want to call them priot though, because it is a small place and I don't know if they could seat so many at once. I've always found their food to be pretty good.

Anyone try the new Brazilian in Astoria?

So--- we went to Barill the other day- around 9pm.
The atmosphere was nice- the restaurant was empty and we were the only one's in it. I liked the decor- simple, yet cozy.
We had 2 glasses of wine- cabernet- was very good.
The waitress was very nice- thick accent, but understandable and she took good care of us.
the food-- was on a buffet-- I didn't know that before I came in- I actually expected it to be served on skewers and such, so that was a little disappointing. It was also dried up (it was 9pm- I shouldn't have expected too much if it had been sitting on the sterno all day), but the piece of steak my boyfriend was offered from inside the kitchen was very good.

overall- decent experience. I will likely try it again during the day, so as to really critique the food. It's not too fair to say it wasn't good- because it was late, and food on a steam table gets dry after that long. We will try it again. Anyone have another experience there?

Anyone try the new Brazilian in Astoria?

Coming out of the N train on Broadway, I was given a flyer for the new Brazilian place on the corner of 31st street and broadway. I love Brazilian style food and especially MEAT! But it must be good- fresh-quality meat. Anyone been there?!?! How's the MEAT?!?! :)

Astoria Top 5 List?

Definitely agree with many of the above. Being in Astoria for a looong time, I came up with my list- no particular order

1. Zenon -my favvvorite Greek-Cypriot place- mezedes are especially my favorite- followed by the daily specials (especially on Wednesday) and it's family run/operated which makes the experience more amazing
2. Il Bambino- amazing paninis and such- owner is greeeat
3. Mundo- i loove all the apps and most of the meals- the owners are amazing here too
4. Avenue- for my favorite cafe- love the "greek pizza" and the crepe with nutella, banana and strawberry, and their tirocafteri for app!
5. Arcos- for Portuguese/ Tierras for Colombian...

Sehrana Cafe-Steinway

Went to Steinway looking for a Hookah Cafe. As we walked around, we spotted a couple (or many), but they just weren't what we were looking for. (it was 1am) Some had too much lighting, others didn't have couches, and some were packed- we just wanted somewhere quiet, to lay back- talk, and smoke hookah! We then walked into Sehrana- where we were greeted by a nice waiter, who sat us down at one of the couches. Although our couch was next to what appeared to be a 60yr old man, with his hand up his 30 yr old's toooooo short skirt, we turned the other way and made good conversation. The place was cozy- small, but spacious-the tables were'nt too cluttered. The decor was nice- and I really liked the motion pictures on the wall- although I don't know if they go with the meditteranean theme.

Anyhow, the owner was our waiter- and since I had never seen this place before, I asked him if it was new- and alas! it was! After some conversation, I learned his name (Peter)- he treated us to some Baklava (which I didn't really like-- he admitted it was from Omonia-), and the Hookah was very good- tasted fresh (from what my bf told me--it was my first time so I didn't know what "fresh hookah" meant) and they kept coming around to change the coals. Also, Peter told us that when the weather gets better, he will have an open garden in the back!! --Hookah outside!!! :)

Overall, we had a great experience and will be going back soon! Anyone tried the "Meditteranean" food there? The people who were eating seemed to be loving it! That will be our next experience!

la mancha on atlantic

I completely agree with steve-- (although this post is late...) I went there sometime before Christmas, and thought everything was amazing. It was a cozy-little-restaurant, where the food tasted really fresh, and the service-- the owner and his wife-- were very helpful and sweet. I don't remember exactly what we all had, but everything- from the entrees to the desserts, and the free shots they gave us for my bf's bday, were reallllly good! I highly recommend it, and am due for another visit really soon :)

Arcos- new restaurant on Broadway (astoria)

Just went out with the family on Monday-- we were on our way to Tierras Colombianas when we stumbled at this new place-its next door to Tierras-- i believe it used to be Caos? From the outside it looked really clean, and so we were drawn to it. As we walked in, we were greeted by a waitress and the owner-- a really nice man.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated, and was pretty spacious. The owner had been our waiter, as he explained he had just opened one week ago. We decided to try every appetizer on the lunch menu, and enjoyed many of them. The Chourico Assado was my favorite part...!! amaaaaaazing sausage that smelled looovely and was brought flambeed to our table. It smelled and tasted sooooo good! The Pastel De Bacalhau- was less tasty-- as the cod fish had too many bread crumbs in it, although the baby greens and rasberry vinaigrette dressing was really good. I loved the Lulas Fritas-- fried calamari, but did not try the Lula Grelhados-- which my sister says was amazing. I then ordered the pork chops wth onions and peppers, which was reaaaaaaaaaaallllly good- my dad got the tortellini--which he said he enjoyed, and my sister ate the rigatoni vodka with chicken.

We finished the lunch off with espresso and an amazing chocolate cake.. mmm... (it had 3 types of chocolates in it!!) :) Botttom line: I loved the new place-- great manager, beautiful restaurant, and very tasty good... ohh the manager is also the chef! He was really sweet, and I definitely am going back--(or ordering takeout--I'm looking at the outgoing menu as we speak)!! Anyone else try it yet???

S'agapo in Astoria

I did- went to lunch with my boyfriend during the summer. We sat outside and had to get up to find the waiter numerous times. The food was good- although expensive for the amount you are given. The service was definitely a disappointment- made us not want to stay for dessert...
