Hot Pot?

I've never been to a hot pot restaurant before and would love to try one.
Looking for a very clean one in Scarborough/Markham/Richmond Hill or even Durham region area.

Your suggestions are welcome - thanks :)

Old Quebec City

Hello all,

Doing a family road trip to Quebec City and looking for quaint cafes and must-try places with the following criteria:

a) not going to break the bank, mains between $10-$15
b) is vegetarian friendly - some of the travellers are vegetarian whereas myself I need my meat so a menu that can cater to both alike :)

We will likely be stopping over for dinner

Thank you so much!!

Pittsburgh/Monroeville Area

We're heading down from Toronto to stay one night as a family over the weekend. Any recs on must-try places for dinner and Sunday brunch?

We don't want any greasy spoons or whole in the walls regardless of how good the food is so are looking for nicer establishments/areas (but not fine dining).

Many thanks in advance!!

Canned Pasta Sauce [moved from Ontario board]

What's a good quality pasta sauce that doesn't taste sweet and readily available?

I've tried Classico, Ragu, CountrySelect, and Longos brand (spicy arabiatta sauce) and they were overly sweet.

Thanks!

"Upscale" Sushi

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - this is super helpful!

Quick newbie sushi question - what is the difference between maki rolls and sashimi?

We don't do raw so we do the fried frish, vegeterian and smoked fish options - which sushi option(s) would that be?

Thanks again!

"Upscale" Sushi

Looking for great sushi joints in York Region or Scarborough/ Toronto area. Doesn't have to be AYCE. We haven't ventured too much for sushi b/c most places friends/family recommend seem 'too dirty' for my husband so we're looking for something more 'upscale' or with modern/contemporary decor, and staff who can help walk us through the menu.

We don't do the raw stuff so mostly vegy and fried seafood sushi items.

Any suggestions please :)

Thanks!

White Wine Sangria Recipe for Smaller Amount

Would like to make this drink for dinner and the recipes I find are all for large groups - any basic recipe that breaks it down to parts (i.e 1 part wine to x part whatever)

There are so many varieties - do I have to add any other alcohol besides wine since I see some recipes call for brandy and I don't have that on hand.

Thanks everyone - yeah I am looking for the tradtional meal with gravy and stuffing and sides !

Would be nice if it was a sit down place instead of a fast food joint. :)

Maybe close to xmas, some of the restos will be offering Turkey ?

Turkey Dinner?

Okay, my family doesn't eat or cook turkey at home. Do any restaurants serve traditional turkey dinners as a regular menu or seasonal option?

Thanks :)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Is the View (Revolving Restaurant) worth the price tag?

I'm leaning on 230 Fifth for the view - the pics on the website look awesome!

Breakfast Secaucus

We're driving in from Toronto and staying in Secaucus and will be taking public transit to NYC over the July long weekend (for Canada).

Are there any recs for good breakfast/brunch spots in Secaucus? We don't want any greasy spoon joints, preferably licensed so we can enjoy a good mimosa and if it has a patio thats even better.

Thanks!

Stockyards BBQ

Hmm, as soon as I heard that Stockyards opened, I had paid a visit with the hubby (he's a HUGE ribs fanatic).

Although the service was great, staff friendly, I wasn't too thrilled with the ribs. We like saucy, tender, fall of the bone meat on our ribs and that wasn't what we got.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?

Okay, finally managed to get a pic, we went there two summers ago so unfortunately I have this only:

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid... - it shows the sandwiches and dessert (now that I think of it, I can't remember what was for dessert). What was not shown was the scones with clotted cream which we finished off beforehand.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?

I had afternoon tea at Park Hyatt and Old Mill Inn.

The atmosphere and service at Hyatt was very appropriate. I found their sandwiches to be a bit stale though. There was probably 2-3 groups besides us that day. I will try to dig up some pics for this.

The audience at Old Mill the day we went was much older and the room was packed! I thought the sandwiches/tea/experience was decent.

I really want to try Windsor Arms!
