"Upscale" Sushi
Thanks everyone for the suggestions - this is super helpful!
Quick newbie sushi question - what is the difference between maki rolls and sashimi?
We don't do raw so we do the fried frish, vegeterian and smoked fish options - which sushi option(s) would that be?
Thanks again!
"Upscale" Sushi
Looking for great sushi joints in York Region or Scarborough/ Toronto area. Doesn't have to be AYCE. We haven't ventured too much for sushi b/c most places friends/family recommend seem 'too dirty' for my husband so we're looking for something more 'upscale' or with modern/contemporary decor, and staff who can help walk us through the menu.
We don't do the raw stuff so mostly vegy and fried seafood sushi items.
Any suggestions please :)
Thanks!
Baileys Coffee
several years ago at a drinks show I tasted this refreshing baileys coffee liqueor drink..does anyone have the recipe/ratios or know what I'm talking about? I know it contained:
baileys coffee
vanilla ice cream
chocolate milk
topped with whipped cream and coffee beans
no vodka and it was a shaken drink, not blended
thank you :)
White Wine Sangria Recipe for Smaller Amount
Would like to make this drink for dinner and the recipes I find are all for large groups - any basic recipe that breaks it down to parts (i.e 1 part wine to x part whatever)
There are so many varieties - do I have to add any other alcohol besides wine since I see some recipes call for brandy and I don't have that on hand.
Turkey Dinner?
Has anyone tried the Thanksgiving special at Peartree? They are having one for American thanksgiving
Turkey Dinner?
Thanks everyone - yeah I am looking for the tradtional meal with gravy and stuffing and sides !
Would be nice if it was a sit down place instead of a fast food joint. :)
Maybe close to xmas, some of the restos will be offering Turkey ?
Turkey Dinner?
Okay, my family doesn't eat or cook turkey at home. Do any restaurants serve traditional turkey dinners as a regular menu or seasonal option?
Thanks :)

Is the View (Revolving Restaurant) worth the price tag?
I'm leaning on 230 Fifth for the view - the pics on the website look awesome!

Did a quick search and came up with River Cafe, 230 Fifth for good views. Any other suggestions for restos or bars with a good view?
Thanks!

Summer Trip to NYC

Goodgravy - I definitely wouldn't classify Licks or Harveys as gourmet burgers !! but yes it may be a toronto thing ;)
Picnic in Central Park
Heading down to NYC from Toronto in July. Would really love to have a picnic (weather permitting) at Central Park when we're down there.
Any recs on where in CP we should picnic, where to buy our picnic items, etc?
Thanks!
Summer Trip to NYC
Thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay, didn't know if the trip was going to happen but I'm back full speed on my research.
I will check these recs out!
Please keep them coming! We are only spending 2.5 days so pls do suggest places that one must try w/o leaving NYC!
Breakfast Secaucus
We're driving in from Toronto and staying in Secaucus and will be taking public transit to NYC over the July long weekend (for Canada).
Are there any recs for good breakfast/brunch spots in Secaucus? We don't want any greasy spoon joints, preferably licensed so we can enjoy a good mimosa and if it has a patio thats even better.
Thanks!

Stockyards BBQ
Hmm, as soon as I heard that Stockyards opened, I had paid a visit with the hubby (he's a HUGE ribs fanatic).
Although the service was great, staff friendly, I wasn't too thrilled with the ribs. We like saucy, tender, fall of the bone meat on our ribs and that wasn't what we got.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?
Okay, finally managed to get a pic, we went there two summers ago so unfortunately I have this only:
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=16603&id=100002236812538&l=1065c28198 - it shows the sandwiches and dessert (now that I think of it, I can't remember what was for dessert). What was not shown was the scones with clotted cream which we finished off beforehand.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?
I had afternoon tea at Park Hyatt and Old Mill Inn.
The atmosphere and service at Hyatt was very appropriate. I found their sandwiches to be a bit stale though. There was probably 2-3 groups besides us that day. I will try to dig up some pics for this.
The audience at Old Mill the day we went was much older and the room was packed! I thought the sandwiches/tea/experience was decent.
I really want to try Windsor Arms!

West 50 Pour House in Mississauga Review + Pics!
yes - that's what I read from the reviews online too so we stayed away from going friday night!!
West 50 Pour House in Mississauga Review + Pics!
I've been on chowhound for a long time but finally got to post up a review! Hope this is helpful:)
Couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were going to Square One to do some shopping. I really didn't want to eat at the restos there (I used to work across from Square One so grabbing a bite there was the quickest option!). Instead, a coworker from my prev job recommended West 50 Pourhouse, also near Square One.
I'm going to be honest, I was a bit skeptical going in, as I usually am with a chain/group of restaurants. I couldn't find much reviews/pics online but I liked the fact they had an extensive drinks menu and boasted a lot of beers on draft (although some reviews online did suggest that not all of them would be available all days).
We went in for a very late lunch, I think it was almost 2 p.m. so I wasn't expecting the place to be packed. There were a few groups of people dining.
We ordered a few drinks and went straight to the main. I had their bacon wrapped filet mignon and my husband had the jambalaya.
Both were REALLY good! My steak was moist and flavourful and a good variety of textures on the plate. My husband quite enjoyed his jamabalaya. His dish was served piping hot. The only feedback was mine could have been even hotter.
I really wanted to make room for dessert but I was stuffed, plus in a few hours we were heading to the Wine and Cheese show in Mississauga so we left it there. If we're in this end of town, we hope to be back!

Would love to know what you guys thought!
Summer Trip to NYC
sure! we're looking for mostly mid-range, laid back settings with a few high-end/formal palces for a special night out.
Wine/Cocktails/Beer are good!
Ready to venture out to different areas if the trip is worth it!
Summer Trip to NYC
Hey guys, I'm from Toronto and my husband and I are planning on doing the NYC drive, probably stopping at Buffalo for some shopping in June.
Do you have any recs of places that one must try out while here?!
To help with the recs - we love wine/cheese, charcuterie, seafood, steak, italian, gourmet bugers, gourmet pizzas, cupcakes, etc.
We don't do indian, chinese, raw dishes, and are not particularly interested in the food stand vendors.
Thanks in advance!
Wedding Venues under $75 per person
one option you can do to keep catering costs down is to look for venues that allow for outside caterers so you can control the costs of food.

Babu Catering and Take Outs in Markham
you can start with their appetizers: rolls, vadais, etc (listed under short eats). Their mutton curry and kothu roti are also quite good.
thanks for the heads up about the new location!
