Pacific Mall Recos

I am planning to take the family some weekend soon to Pacific Mall. There are probably already threads on this, but but would appreciate recommendations as to (i) spots for lunch at the Mall and (ii) stores with good/interesting food items to take home.

Chowfind of the Century- Bistrot 92 Eglinton Ave West, French French

My wife and I were finally able to make it here this past Saturday evening. Like others who have commented in this chain, we were the only customers while we were there. Which is a shame as the food is very good and, for $30 prix fixe for 3 courses, amazing value. From an ambience point of view, we could have done without the wall-mounted TV, which, though, ran without sound. We would encourage others to give this restaurant a try, as the personable owner is trying very hard and offers high quality cuisine at a winning price.

Hal-Day in South Beach - Lunch/Espresso?

I'll be spending a half-day in South Beach (first time) with my (Canadian) family, including two early-teen kids. Looking for suggestions for lunch and, later, a cafe with good espresso.

best hot turkey sandwich

The Wimpy's Diner at Bathurst/Sheppard makes an enormous, delicious , old-fashioned hot turkey.

Waltham/Framingham Cheaper Eats

Any recommendations for a good, cheaper place for dinner in/around Waltham or Framingham - I am thinking diner/burger/pasta/bistro, etc.?

Truly best espresso in 2013

I am fully in agreement with you. I find the standard of espresso in Toronto to be generally low, usually bitter and/or thin. Many cafes have a great vibe, great decor, great food, but mediocre coffee. That includes Sam James and Dark Horse. The one place (actually 4 locations) that I do generally like is Balzac's, though I am lately finding more problems with consistency even there.

Wine Stores Near Boston

I will be visting the Boston area from Toronto early December and will be looking for a wine store with good selection and prices. In particular, I wil be l in and around Cambridge (Harvard), Waltham and Framingham. Are there any good stores in those locations?

Espresso in Cambridge

Thanks for these recommendations. I expect I'll be spending most of my time that day in/around Harvard, so I particularly appreciate the Harvard recommendations. Happy to hear from others regarding these or other Harvard espresso suggestions.

Espresso in Cambridge

I'll be visting the Boston area from Toronto early December and hope to have a Saturday afternoon in Cambridge. Can anyone recommend a cafe there for a good espresso macchiato?

Prince Edward Country recommendations?

Was in the county a few weeks ago.

Restaurants we liked were:

East and Main in Wellington

Claramont Inn in Picton

We had very good wines at some of the smaller wineries:

Hubbs Creek

The Old Third (pinot noir)

Exultet (excellent whites)

Stratford Restaurant Commentary (Long)

I must disagree as to the relative merits of the coffee at Revel v. Balzacs, at least re: the espresso. I find the espresso at Balzacs consistently superior to the more bitter version provided by Revel.

Coffee/Sushi - South Okanagan and Further South

Will be visting the Okanagan for the first time in two weeks, staying In Naramata but wine touring south of it , all the way down to Osoyoos.

Can anyone recommend some cafes with good espresso and some decent sushi restaurants in that area?

Ben & Izzy's

I had almost exactly the same experience as lsk yesteryday evening around 7 pm, my first visit. Was not told when I sat down that they were sold out of sandwiches, I was ignored after sitting down even though the place was not full, the staff seemed clueless. I don't expect to return for some time.

They generally have a deeper, richer, more satisfying taste.

mmmuffins!

I'm a big cornmeal muffin fan. I find the ones mmmuffins makes OK. But I have not found in Toronto (though I keep on looking) the same kind of really delicious cornmeal muffins that are generally available in New York City.

What happened to Pain Perdu???

No, there is no change in ownership. I believe that they cut back on their range pf pastries recently. The superb millefeuille and gateau basque are still there. And they still offer the best quiche in Toronto. I have not experienced any change in quality.

Terroni - Pizzeria Libretto - QMP....Can Pizza be this good?

I would say forget about all these big names and try Falasca on Yonge between Davisville and Eglinton.

Great Quiches in Toronto?

I think you will find the best quiche in the city at Pain Perdu on St. Clair West, just west of Christie.

Good find [Left Bank Bistro]

Went to Left Bank for the first time yesterday, on the basis of previous good reviews. It certainly lived up to them. The menu has a number of bistro classics. I had one of the day's specials - beef tongue bourguignan, at the suggestion of the server. It was superb! Also, the restaurant has a very nice ambiance. Will be back.

Eastern Townships

My wife and I are planning to spend 3 - 4 days in August in the Eastern Townships, a region we do not know. We hope to stay in one of the smaller towns or villages. We would appreciate any recommendations as to restaurants, cafes with good coffee, and cheese producers/wineries/cideries to visit.

Unfortunately, Simple Fish and Chips on Downie is also gone. A true loss to Stratford as their fish sandwiches were excellent.

Which wineries are worth a visit in Prince Edward County?

If you are looking for excellent wines, try some of the new, smaller wineries with a friendly welcome like Half Moon Bay and The Old Third, as opposed to overpriced, ones like Norman Hardie and Closson Chase.

Current thoughts on Prince Edward County?

Was in the County the last few days and was very happy with dinners at the Milford Bistro and the Gazebo Restaurant at Waupoos Estates Winery. The owner of the former is enthusiastic and knowledgable about local produce and wines. The disadvantage of the latter is that its wine list is limited to its own wines, but the setting is lovely.

Good Corn Muffin in Downtown Core?

Can anyone recommend where in the downtown Core I can get a good corn muffin? By good corn muffin, I don't mean either m..m..muffins or Movenpick. Excellent corn muffins (some with actual bits of corn in them) seem to abound in New York City, where I lived years ago and still visit now and then. A few places in dowtown T.O. did make good ones at one time, but stopped making them awhile ago. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction where I can satisfy my regular corn muffin cravings.

IMO, hand's down, Urban Herbivore in Kensington Market, corner of Augusta and Oxford. I find their muffins tastier than Naturally Yours.

In my opinion, Kiva's makes the best non-Montreal-style bagels in the city.

Bolet's Burrito - Solid Burrito in No-Frills Type of Surrounds

I went today at lunch for the first time. Excellent burrito with very fresh ingredients. Very personable, friendly staff. But I did get the impression from them that business could be better. Given the quality and the price, Bolet's should be frequented. I did learn they are no longer open on Sundays, due to lack of business.

Canadian Wine Content Only Please

I agree with bogie's comment about Kacaba. I went to their tasting room just after their 07 Syrah won red wine of the year. I was intending to taste it and noted on the way in that the award was featured on their roadsise sign. The wine was on their tasting list with the bottle price. When I asked to taste it, they said, Oh, sorry, it's not available for tasting. Then, when I asked to confirm the price of a bottle, pointing to the price on the tasting list, they said, Oh. sorry, that must be a typo. I thought this was pretty ant-consumer behaviour. I wrote a complaint letter and they never responded. I'll never buy a bottle of their wine, no matter how many wards they win.
