What's your regional fry sauce and what do you like?

I grew up in Ohio, and I love apple cider vinegar on my fries. Ketchup definitely was the local go-to, but I also liked a mustard and mayo mixture. Now that I live in Maryland, I have grown fond of a liberal sprinkling of Old Bay seasoning. A local doner restaurant does a platter of fries covered in doner meat with a yogurt sauce- very yum!

Cheap places near National Harbor

Very true. The water taxi into Alexandria is $16 per person round trip from Nat'l Harbor. That definitely will put a dent in the meal budget.

Help finding the Best Pizza at the North Jersey Shore?

My husband and I are fans of Maruca's. My husband grew up summering in Seaside Park, and Maruca's is a family favorite- no other pizza is allowed in Grandma's house. It was my first taste of Jersey shore pizza, so it's my pick. I've tried some of the other places on the boardwalk, and they were too greasy. There's just something special about Maruca's. Mmmmm, can't wait to grab a slice this weekend!

Planning for non-adventurous husband

It all sounds good to me!

Planning for non-adventurous husband

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm terribly jealous, even though it is for business, and I'm encouraging him to experience as much as possible.

Planning for non-adventurous husband

My husband gets to go to Paris next week for business. He will be arriving next Thursday morning and staying until Saturday afternoon. His hotel is on Blvd Raspail not far from Blvd du Montparnasse. I'm trying to scout out the best options for dining. He isn't especially adventurous when it comes to food. He is definitely a sandwich kind of guy. That being said, he does like seafood (but not raw) and would like to have more of an authentic French experience. Also, are there any must-haves that I should put on the shopping list for my presents?...after all, I am staying home to take care of the kids! ;)

El Sloppy Tacos - Brunswick

I have not been to this place, but I did remember a review from the Frederick Post...most interesting to me was that the reviewer claims to not be much of a lunch-eater and his girlfriend wasn't hungry, so that leaves us with the review of a single taco and some chips and salsa.

Beef N Buns N Paradise

I haven't had a burger there, so I can't comment on the sandwiches. The soft serve ice cream is very good! This place definitely reminds me of the small town ice cream/ burger places all over Ohio, where I grew up. It's a regular summertime stop. Good stuff!

Taco Cabana in DC?

I have a soft spot in my heart for Taco Cabana, as well. There was nothing better than fresh tortillas and queso after a night out in College Station! I've had Uncle Julio's here (Gaithersburg) and in Ft. Worth, and I have to say the quality was better in TX, but that was 10 years ago. It's closer than others, though. I miss real Tex-Mex!

Rhode Island Clam Chowder?

Spent last week vacationing in RI. Sampled the chowda at Iggy's and Aunt Carrie's. I thought that Iggy's was alright, but a little too flour-y. It's thick- much more New England style (which is how I usually like it). The milk chowder at Aunt Carrie's was much thinner, more like clear w/ cream added. The flavor was outstanding- it tasted of salt pork and clams. Perfect foil for clamcakes. I wasn't brave enough to go for the clear/plain chowder, but I will next time.

Henning's German Restaurant in Frederick, MD

My husband and I have enjoyed going to Henning's for the past two years. The service is attentive, if a little slow, and the food has always been to our liking. My MIL is German, considers her spatzle to be the best that she has ever had -until she ate at Henning's. I have always gotten a tender and flavorful cutlet, regardless of the version that I have chosen. The rolls have always been warm and fresh, and I quite like the composed salad. I also appreciate that they serve Beck's non-alcoholic beer. Too many places only have O'Doul's. I'm sorry that this place doesn't have the business that they should. I'm not going to say that it's better than Schmankerl Stube because I have not dined there. I will say that it is better than the chain restaurants that come with 45 minute waits and no personality. It tastes pretty good to me... and my German in-laws. ;)

Desperately Seeking Aunt Jemima Buckwheat Pancake Mix

Giant Eagle in Frederick has the Aunt Jemima buckwheat mix. I love buckwheat pancakes!
