Looking for some great casual restaurants for my first time in Atlanta

Lobster Bar is nice, but it is pricey - $20 and up entrees.

Advice: Wisdom Tooth Extraction, what to eat?

so i am one of the lucky ones, but i had a great time with my wisdom teeth - had all 4 out at the same time - really enjoyed the meds and was eating a bean burrito hours afterwards - no problems. even if you cant handle the tortilla, beans and salsa are just fine...

fried gravy

2nd the "fried" gravy. Always had it made that way growing up - what I understand now is that it is to "toast" the flour so that there's not that raw flour taste or maybe to incorporate it and keep it from clumping.

New found addiction to Nutella

Nutella and peanut butter sandwich on soft bread...omg...must have added 5 pounds in the last month after finding that morsel of joy! Like a semi-savory reeces cup.

Ming Tsai...

Ha, yes, I live a stones throw away from where Monroe becomes Blvd. and Briarcliff becomes Moreland....I personally liked Yan Can Cook - he was one of the staple shows, along with Julia, that I grew up with....and when I started watching Ming, I was very disappointed when I saw the wedding ring :-(

Traveling from Atlanta to the Carolinas? You should try The Spotted Pig in Fair Play, SC

Thanks for the info - I go to Cashiers a good bit too - I'll try it next time. I can't think of where it is - I must have passed it several times...and I'm with you, no mayonnaise-y slaw!

What's your favorite thing to do with chevre?

Same idea as the above posters...this is what I had for dinner the last 2 nights...chopped garden tomatoes, scallion, garlic, olive oil, balsamic, salt, papper, dash of lemon, basil, goat cheese - all mixed up - watched tv with that and toasted baguette rounds

"Pepper Sauce" circa 1950?

Yep, pepper sauce to me is the small yellow peppers in vinegar - what you use on greens...

Sushi Shakedown

Is that the name - I thought it was something else. Sadly, I never made it to Soto, but yes, I really like the "new" place. Always fresh, good presentation, affordable, and right across the street :-)

Atlanta, Marietta, Tasty China. Full Report

Steve,

Looked on the atlantacuisine.com site - Frank Ma's post - I can't get on the site and don't know anyone personally, so I hope this post finds you and you can relay to the crew that, yes, I do plan to attend the Frank Ma's dinner and am looking forward to meeting all of you - the menu looks terrific! Worst case scenario, I'll sit close by and order off the menu!

Help - why did my Tom Yum soup go bitter [Moved from South board]

I made Tom Yum soup yesterday and it was great - went back today and it had a bitter taste - what happened? I left a halved lime and some lemongrass in there - should I have taken it out? I tried to put a little sugar in to offset it, but don't want to make it sweet. Any thoughts?

Healthy Eating in Atlanta

Not sure of the size of the event or your price points, but you might check Cafe Sunflower - also the owners of (now closed) Pangea might be doing some catering - not sure, but the menu at Pangea was good, creative, and healthy. I miss it! His name is Butch Raphael, you might google him....I love Rainbow Grocery and Deli too.
