DC KIDS Restaurant week?

Here is what the Washington Post is reporting are the places participating to date.
Participating restaurants include:
Art and Soul
Asia Nine
Beacon Street Bar and Grill
Cafe du Parc
Firefly
Juniper at the Fairmont
Mie N Yu
M Street Bar and Grill
Palette at Loews
The Hay-Adams and Zola

Pretty pathetic showing. Hopefully more will jump on board.

BRABO Old Town

I would agree that the sandwiches at Eve are outstanding but I also do not consider Eve a sandwich shop. I think the Post was comparing Brabo to the other lame excuses for delis and sandwich shops in the area.

Also, the lunch special is $13.50 now but still the best deal in town. I usually get there a couple times a month.

BRABO Old Town

It was not a subway $5 foot long but had a nice meat to bread ratio with about 3 nice slice of avocado on it. The turkey was a much better quality then the other lame options in the area: subway, potbelly, jimmy johns, etc.

South Street Steaks is a Comin' to Downtown Bethesda

I will try to check them out this week. I have been to both the original in College Park and Gaithersburg and did not experience what you got in Bethesda. I will report back once I give it a shot. It is disappointing to hear as I was looking forward to having them close by.

BRABO Old Town

Managed to swing by for lunch today to try out the sandwich selection from the Butcher Block. Tried the turkey on a french baquette with red onion marmalade, avocado and arugula. Fresh turkey, nice cruchy roll - not much to dislike about it. Need to get back and try some others. $8 seems like a fair price for a quality sandwich.

South Street Steaks is a Comin' to Downtown Bethesda

I agree with Daniel about the crusty rolls. My recollection over 30 years of eating cheesesteaks and the rolls are always soft.

eventide in clarendon?

I think there is more to this story then we are getting.

eventide in clarendon?

I think there is something wrong with your timeline here.
6:30 - Reservation/Let Hostess know others late
15 minutes later other person arrives = 6:45

If another part was booked for that table at 8:15 you would have 1-1/2 hours for your meal and had your party shown up on time you would have had 1-3/4 hours for your meal, which I think is a reasonable amount of time for a new place that is getting a lot of buzz.

BRABO Old Town

Has anyone tried Brabo - The Butcher Block. Saw it was written up in the Post Food section today as having sandwiches that "are the best in the area". Although in Old Town I am not sure how much of an endorsement that actually is.

May swing by for lunch today and report back.

How is the Rusty Scupper in Bmore?

Avoid at all costs. Tourist trap rip-off.

Many better options in the city.

DC Family Friendly - Penn Quarter

Rosa Mexicana - Not the greatest mexican food but family friendly.

Private room in Rockville/Bethesda

Grapeseed.

Bethesda-What are we missing?

Ray's always seems to fall off the radar - just a little too far. But if you factor in how long it takes to park in Bethesda, it is probably the same time door to door. We really need to get back there. Although now that the Classics will be taking reservations we may be heading there more often. If only I could get my son (5) to love steak - what is wrong with this boy?

Anyone been to Comet Ping Pong?

I am missing something by not checking this place out? We had such a bad experience with Ms. Greenwood at Buck's that I find it difficult to give her another $ of dining budget. She basically ruined a very special evening for us. I would much rather patronize establishments that do not look down on me. Just my humble opinion.

Anyone been to Redwood Wine Bar in Bethesda?

We stopped by last weekend for the 1st time to check the place out. Loved the bar area, very open and warm despite the size. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar as a couple was leaving. Wife had a martini and I had a nice glass of red. Wine list was decent by the glass, although slightly overpriced.

Shared a couple apps at the bar, which were about average but enough to entice us to return and try the full menu.

Bethesda-What are we missing?

Have not been to Jaleo in awhile as it has kind of dropped off our radar. Thanks for the heads up as we will definitely head back soon. It is one of a few places that our kids (7 and 5) actually enjoy that we also enjoy.
Wish I could figure out how to get my kids to enjoy dining at nicer establishments. I guess I should not complain too much - we have gotten them to eat sushi, which makes my wife happy.

Wine Stores

What are some of your favorite wine stores in the area. I have been to the following:

Andy Bassin MacArthur Beverage
Calvert Woodley
Circle
Magruders
Pauls
Arrowine

What am I missing as far as affordable, good bargains for wine?

Bethesda-What are we missing?

We have been living in Bethesda for 8 years now and we are wondering if we are missing something. I know Bethesda has many flaws (i.e. limited wine lists, etc) but we are wondering if we are somehow missing any hidden gems. We have been to the following but are wondering what your favorites are:

Mia's
Assiago
Redwood
Raku
Black's
Grapeseed
Persimmon
Irish Inn at Glen Echo
The Burger Joint
Olazzo
Passage to India
Visions

old town Alexandria

A few other decent, not outstanding places:

Chadwicks (half price burgers on Monday and good happy hour)
Southside 815 (great fried chicken, decent po boys which are half price on Mondays)
Mai Thai

tyson's corner 2nd week of february, where in the world do we eat?

Not sure when it opens but keep an eye out for Inox.

RW DC 2009

We have reservations to PS7. Does anyone have any opinions on their offerings?

No restaurant week menus on their website.

Alternative to PX?

Actually I have found PX to be very difficult to deal with. We tried to plane a company holiday party there and they could have cared less about working with us on menu, etc. They first told us we could get food from Eve but would not commit to anything as they said it was seasonal (not sure what would change between Nov 15 and Dec15). When we finally got the proposed meu it was fried fish from Eammon's, which is great stuff but not what we wanted or were promised.

They come across as they are doing a favor to even speak to you.

Best thin crust pizza in the DC area

Mia's in Bethesda. Putting out some of the best pizza in the area these days. Actually better than my last last couple trips to Two Amy's, where we encountered soupy pizza.

Although, Two Amy's is still the place for small plates of great apps.
